So since your Revenant character is going to be deleted in the near future along with whatever rewards they get….. what if you got a precursor drop while on your Rev? Kiss it goodbye?

Why is it going to be deleted?

Why is it going to be deleted?

The Revenant created on the temporary beta character slot will be deleted either when the expansion starts or when they change it enough that they wish the next beta to have the new version.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Oh, OK.

Well, yeah, betas are betas, I guess.

They’re for testing and if you want to see the game early and/or help test for free, you just have to accept that any progress will be lost.

Somewhere, back in the mists of time, I seem to remember that games companies used to pay people to test their games…

They still do. In fact Arenanet are hiring testers right now.

But testing video games professionally is actually nothing like playing them. It’s more like “Use this skill on this dummy 100 times and note down how much damage it does each time. Ok, now switch to this trait and do it again.” For a bit of variety you may get assigned a list of bug reports to try and reproduce to identify what’s actually causing them.

Whereas the beta is pretty much “play as a revenant, tell us what you think”.

But it’s also entirely optional, everyone (who pre-purchased) can do as much or as little as they want. I actually like playing unfinished games, I like getting an insight into how they’re put together, so I’m really looking forward to betas where we get to see the new maps and things, but I’m not much good at balance so I’m probably not going to do much of this one.

This is different. This is trying to persuade people to buy HOT for the beta tests by tantalising them with seeing the Revenant in open world. This “We dont do betas just for marketing purposes” is bunkum. A lot of people preordered HOT largely for the ability to test Revenant early.

Although it is backfiring slightly with the Revenant not being up to snuff right now.

I’m sure that’s part of it, but I think it’s also an effective way of (hopefully) getting around the issues that happened with the recent trait update. A lot of the issues with that are being blamed on Anet being unable to test things under the same circumstances as you get on the live servers – they don’t have enough people, testers don’t approach things the same way as real people – too many variables etc.

This way the revenant is being tested under exactly the conditions it will be used (excluding any balance patches between now and release) and already it’s raising a lot of issues that didn’t come up during the previous betas when people also got to play a revenant – but only doing very limited content on one part of one map.

I’m out of town so can not test myself. What about the skin. Can it be added to the accounts wordrobe or is everything kept separate from your non bata account.

Cause if you can add the skin then theoretical if you and a precursor drop you could craft the legendary and at least have the skin after the bata.

Everything is separate.

I took a Black Lion salvage kit, salvaged an item on Rev, went back to non beta character and the salvage kit use was not logged.

Getting paid to do beta tests or testing in general is nothing like open/closed betas. Some games you will actually end up hating simply because of the amount of repetitive testing you do.
