No more! I am playing a Mesmer using the Signet of Inspiration and I’m having murderous impulses because she repeats the same line every 10 seconds.

I have recently come back to GW2 and this is really ruining it for me. How do I turn it off? I don’t want to disable all dialogue I just want my pea brained Mesmer to SHUT UP!

My friend always plays with sound off because of the horrific screams that her guard produces, over and over again. I think there could be done some tweaking to make it occur less often? or maybe expand to the existing ones to make them more random.

I run the signet when doing material gathering. I turn it off when going into a hub because my brain would literally melt if I didn’t. I love my twig mesmer to bits, but sometimes he really does need to shut up - particularly when he’s daring everyone else to hit him whilst he’s refining materials.

I can’t stand that we have a saying for every buff placed on us. The sayings are extremely cheesy. “EAT MY DUST” “FASTER THAN A CENTAUR” etc.

I really wish I could turn it off but still hear everything else in the game.

If you ever get bored. Turn the camera to face your mesmer while she/he has the signet on. It’s so disturbing. Such a blank face, talking to herself/himself. xD

I don’t do story anymore but if you shut off sound (and I do) for talk it also shuts it off for cutscenes. Can be a real pain because you can’t pause the cutscene to turn your vocals back on. At least that was the way it was long ago when I bothered with GW2 story (I stopped because it doesn’t pay and I’m all about the looty).

This is not the only game that makes the mistake of repeated voice use on a character you will be using repeatedly. Dragon’s Dogma a great game but exactly the same as GW2 where the voice volume turns down cutscene volume as well. Then there was Skyrim with one male voice actor for all npc’s….

Every time I get in these situations I just keep repeating to myself, “be thankful they didn’t hire Gilbert Gottfried.”

I also post on guildwars2guru.

I would buy gems for a Gilbert Gottfried voice pack. That’s a worthwhile account upgrade. He’d make an awesome asura.

Frustrations and annoyance are GW2 definitions. Life in GW2 towns is a hell, running npc everywhere, blocking you from accessing to basic services and repeating endlessly stupid sentences. But don’t worry, HoT will introduce a new Gemstore item to tune down those sounds.

Honestly, I’ve played so long, it just doesn’t bother me, and truthfully never really did. I was usually just too caught up in game-play.

And, occasionally my asura character says, does something that makes me laugh so much, it gives me a joy for the game’s fruitful nature. Just make a joke out of it, play and just let it be. Or, turn your sound down.

I am sure I’m not the only one who doesn’t mind it, and occasionally also finds it really amusing.

Nonsense, I love it. It’s obviously a common saying in human culture. So common a man had it inscribed on his grave

That’s not the point.

The saying itself is fine – I had no problem, for example, with my Ranger saying it, occasionally.

However, if you read what the OP has said, the issue is when you use Signet of Inspiration on Mesmer (as many do).

Then your character is yelling this (and other similarly repetitive phrases) every 10 seconds, all the time.

That’s the same phrases, 6 times a minute, every minute and at no point have you actively done anything to yell them (like you would on Ranger, with warhorn, or whatever).

It becomes extremely wearing, almost immediately.

To the point where I have had to put Dialog Volume on minimum, in sound options.

Which is obviously not ideal, as now I can’t hear any dialog at all.

So, I would say, absolutely leave the phrase in the game, but please modify Signet of Inspiration so the yelled phrases are removed from it.

The phrases do get a bit annoying to hear all the time. I’ve noticed the majority of the time, I always hear the human female phrases being shouted constantly. I guess that’s because the majority of players tend to play human females.

Those human female Guardian shrieks get reeeeeeeeally annoying, and I don’t even play a human female Guardian :P. If I’m on my own I only have to suffer the human male phrases and the Sylvari male phrases. I don’t mind the Sylvari male phrases though, I think the voice is great.

But yeah, it would be nice to be able to turn those phrases off, if only to stop hearing those Human female shrieks everywhere lol.

If they can add a backpiece that changes the voice emote for certain actions, why can’t we get a on/off option for the same stuff in the options menu…

It’s an American game, made my American people, so it uses the American pronunciation.

More on topic, though, somehow the human boon dialogues don’t annoy me. Not sure how, especially with mostly human characters.
But I am getting sick of female sylvari stuff, one of which is a mesmer. So I do definitely agree that if Signet of Inspiration is on, then the frequency of boon dialogue should be turned down.

I usually try to use the original language of the game (i.e. english), but the American English in GW2 is actually a reason why I chose the German sounds instead.
American English doesn’t sound fantasy-like at all. Totally breaks immersion for me. it’s sad because i like the sylvari voiceacting in the English version.
German sounds good in fantasy settings.
The french version sounds funny but also kind of cool, but sadly a lot of shout don’t seem to have a voice over (the PC is pretty quiet) but that could also be a choice for people that don’t like american voiceacting…since there is another toggle for the text language you can still read the English text and don’t have to deal with the American voices.

Really voice animation doesn’t annoy me and even tho it’s really repetitive I still like it….. Except with Mesmer signet of inspiration. As OP described it’s bad. My slyvari gets swiftness every ten seconds and another random boon. Sometimes he will interrupt him self and merge swift and steady with whatever other random boon voice animation he just received from the signet.

This really needs adjusted for mesmers with inspiration signet.

So much this!

Aside from that, I have to admit that I tend to pick up audio clues much more easily than visual ones, so the quotes my characters say on boons and conditions, as well as other noises that go with certain animations, are a vital part of my gameplay. If I have to play without sound for whatever reason I find playing, especially fighting, much more difficult.

That said, both of my asura mesmers (as well as several of my other asura) are wearing the talking golem backpack, which improves the variety of things to hear immensely .

The developers really really need to be forced to play mesmers with that signet for a few days, non-stop. During which time I assume they would be adding a new option to the game to disable self-buff dialog, while leaving everything else enabled.

It is honestly enough to make me consider a different profession at this point.

This. Even if you don’t speak the language, it is pretty easy to feel the characters mood and personality and the english text is still there, so you know what the characters are talking about.
solves also the poblem with people moping about Trahearne’s voice acting.
