I Don't Understand Divine Lucky Envelopes
It seems you can get the ram backpiece/mini or something like that out of those.
If you dont want the ram stuff its not worth getting the stuff beyond the daily.
Sorry, I know questions about freshly dropped content are always a bit annoying, but I searched through the wiki and forums and couldn’t really find what I was looking for.
My understanding so far is that 1) you can only by a certain amount per day, and 2) they’re relatively pricey.
But the thing is it doesn’t really look like they have anything all that worthwhile in them: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Divine_Lucky_Envelope.
I saw in another recent post that people are getting Trophies (of varying value) that they’re selling to the vendor. Is that really all it is? A virtual slot machine? (you put some gold in, you hope to get more gold out).
Sorry again for being bothersome, but thank you in advance for any advice/information/explanation you might be able to provide!
p.s. I already have both version of the ram backpiece, so that doesn’t factor into my question.

I think that is the only thing of value, but not sure if you get them from the Envelopes or not.
Hadn’t seen that particular item on thd wiki yet, so I guess it sorta makes sense now; you’re basically gambling on the chance of turning 1 gold into (almost) 9 gold.
But since I already have the Ram Backpieces, and I ain’t no gamblin’ man, it looks like this part of the festival is definitely not for me.
Anyways, thanks a bundle for you responses! Super appreciative
It is worth getting eitherway. You get alot essence of luck in addition to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Golden_Ram_Figurine. Meaning, you will get most of your 1 gold back. You are simply paying 12 silver for the chance of getting 9 gold and/or ram backpieces. While you get guaranteed essence of luck.
Another question – the Patch notes say they are affected by “account magic find” but the items and wiki descriptions just say “magic find.” So is it by character or account? (Meaning, do we need to stack our magic find buffs before opening, or it doesn’t matter?)
Yes, it’s worth getting. You almost regain all your gold spent when you sell the junk. On occasion, you’ll also get some nice food and the like you can also sell on the trading post for a pretty penny.
Rares and luck are a bonus.

Where did you get the ram backpieces?
Either the envelopes, as a drop, or straight-up bought off the Trading Post.
So it says in the patch notes that it’s affected by account magic find…. is this mean boosters and foods as well or just what’s on the account unlock?

Do you really break even that consistently? I don’t need help getting essences of luck, I have the backpiece… Are you looking at a consistent net gain, or a consistent net loss? (Even if it’s only minor, say, measured in silver).

Bought it off the TP for 1.5 gold. Upgraded it by salvaging around 40 ectos(I have over 300 just sitting in my bank) to get the 250 essence of luck. Selling the crystalline dust pretty much paid for the 25 fireworks and the 20 wine.
Like I said, I’m not a gambling man; I take the sure thing over RNG everytime ;D

Hard to say since you can only do it once a day. I had a small net loss on my 16 envelopes today, that I think was covered by the 2 envelopes I got for a Dragon Ball win. Each envelope had one of those 88 silver trash items in it, so I lost 12 silver per envelope (and got fireworks and good food).

Yes, you do. The real cost is 11 silver and some change since you always get the golden ram junk item. You’ll actually make money if you sell the food items. Especially the rarer ones on the TP. But don’t expect that to stay once these items flood the market. If you’re lucky, and get the ornamental one you’ll gain 8 gold to boot.
Again, definitely worth it if you haven’t maxed luck, need luck for artificer, or haven’t earned the new backpacks.
Yet, since you need none of them, in your case, I wouldn’t bother.

That’s what I’m not understanding… I’m nit disparaging people who are going for the Divine Envelopes, but I’m just not seeing anything in their loot tables that justifies the deficit (or potential deficit).

Okey dokey.
Thanks so much to everyone for their input. Really appreciate all the people who came out to inform me/present me with their opinions ^.^
You should still buy as many Divinely Lucky Envelopes each day as you can, so you can sell them to other people who do like gambling, even if you’d rather not open them. Right now they’re about 1.65 gold on the trading post each, meaning (after taxes) you’re earning about 50 silver profit per Envelope. With 16 Envelopes buyable each day, if that margin holds up, that’s 8 gold of profit per day simply by flipping them on the TP.
Bottom Line – if you have high account MF (200%+, preferably maxed) AND you like to gamble – buy the divine envelopes, either from the vendor or TP (you must REALLY like to gamble at the prices I saw earlier…) If your account MF is nothing exciting, buy the Divine Envelopes from the vendor and sell to the gamblers (assuming it is still profitable to do so.) Buy the backpack (rare) on the TP if you really want it and then use the MF recipe to upgrade to exotic.
I’ve 143% MF without boosts and I tripled the gold I’ve invested, a friend with much lower MF doubled hers.

Good let’s hear about these good luck streaks – keeps the prices on the TP worthwhile!

This is pure luck.
The standard is investing 1g to get 88s 88c back.
Meh, its just gold sink. Lost 16 gold, gain 14 something plus some trash food and fireworks.
Got 7g99s84c out of them today. Maybe it’ll take it all away over the next couple of days …
so we pay 11 s 12c to gamble.
how nice…. RNG for the win, if you’re lucky.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

Oh! I actually thought they were account bound. I’m super glad I decided to come check in here again!
Gambling on something that might make me money isn’t my thing, but selling stuff that’s guaranteed to make me a (smaller but steady) profit? Now that’s something I think is cool.
And the prices have risen since you posted that! I think it’s gunna be a good couple of days ^.^
For those who didn’t play GW1 – The envelopes are the Nine Rings of GW2. Essentially just a gold sink that gives you an increase in luck to make it worth your while.
