Guild Wars 2

I was talked into buying this game because some of my other clan mates from Battlefield 3 are playing it. I tried all night last night to get into their server “Jade Quarry” I finally just gave up and called it a night around 2am after logging off and on nearly 500 times. I’m not kidding.

So this morning around 9am MST on about the 25th attempt I got in.. Good for me right?

So my buddy who bought the game on amazon and is still waiting for his hard copy to get here wanted to play with me right away… So… he went and bought the game “digital download” today so we could start out the game together.

He gets it downloaded and now for the last flipping 4 hours we have both been hammering away on the logins trying to get his account on “Jade Quarry” as well. This is absolute BS… I’d just go to another server but our entire clan of 8-10 active players is on this server. We’re using laptops and desktops pinging the **** out of the server with login attempts every 20-30 seconds with absolutely no luck. I’ve lost all patience this is rediculous.

don’t blame the game. It is your fault and/or your clans fault for trying to play on a FULL server.

that razor guy sounds like a tool. I had the same problem and i’m still not in. Don’t blame your clan for wanting to play on a popular server cause everyone is obviously wanting the same thing. I think its pretty stupid to only have so few spots as well. If changing servers wasn’t made out to be such a big fricken deal would anybody really be having this problem?!?

If it works as intended…it won’t really matter what server you guys are on unless you were wanting to WvW together.

Guesting sounds great, the 8 day wait does not…. by then his hard copy would have arrived and buying the digital download today is / was / will always be a waste..

It’s currently free to transfer realms but that’s going to change with Guesting on January 28th when there will be a fee.

As for your friend, keep trying, it’s possible to get in. Try after midnight and before 6 am.

Thanks for the clarification Karizee. The wiki said it costs 1800 gems to transfer. I’ll run it by my clan mates tonight and see if I can talk them into dumping Jade. Since I JUST created my character today on Jade can I transfer him tonight or am I locked in for a weeks wait?

I was going to warn you about influence not transferable between servers. Look at it this way, with a dozen or so active players, the influence comes back as soon as you guys starts to do things together.

I hope once guesting is here, you can just simply “guest” to JQ and get all that was there… Influence stays on the server that’s earned.

The ridiculous thing is, everyone is moving to the servers in the top two tiers for WvW but they are having trouble getting in. The hilarious twist is that none of those servers will have WvW queues 90% of the time (excluding weekends and shuffle day). You can always get into at least one map on SoS at any time during the week. On weekends, you might get a 10-30 minute long queue for borderlands, and it’s the top tier in the game. Hell, EB was just out-manned an hour ago.

It seems unnecessary to have “full” servers when, with the exception of unique cases (SoS is ironically the unofficial oceanic server), people only want to be there for WvW.

Anet seriously needs to cap the full servers now and encourage people to move to less populated ones with the last of the free transfer time.

JQ queue times have been getting more and more lengthy in peak since the announcement was made.

Anyone contemplating moving to JQ should be asking themselves seriously how long they are prepared to wait to get to play wvw, knowing that they are only adding to the queue times by trying to cram onto a full server.

For what its worth Sled, I think you guys made the smart decision.

In my personal experience if I may convey this cordially, all servers are dead as a doornail and have no one in the zones.

Seriously though, its not that way on all servers. I have 9 alts running from lvl 11 to 3 lvl 80’s…I run into peeps all the time all over the maps on Tarnished Coast.

are you seriously implying that it’s somehow Anet’s fault that the digital download was a waste when your friend clearly could have gone that route the first time?

when a server is full obviously it won’t be easy to get into. It’s like trying to get into a sold out concert, doesn’t matter that your friends are in the show having a good time, you should have got your ticket when you first heard about it.

GW2 comes out>OP’s clan members start playing on JQ>OP does not join his clan members right away>JQ becomes full>OP starts playing GW and wants to play on JQ which is now full.

Concert is announced>OP’s clan members get tickets>OP does not get tickets right away>Show sells out>OP wants tickets to a now sold out concert.

Actually, it is. New players have to deal with the consequences of buying the game months after it’s launched by potentially not getting onto the server(s) they hoped to get into. This is really no different from any other MMO.

I would love to hear some reasons why this analogy is ‘ludicrous’.

I will also try to get this thread back on topic with ways to combat OPs problem;
-server transfers are free until guesting arrives, correct? why doesn’t your clan transfer to a different server so everyone can play together?
-you and your friend who can’t log into JQ start new heroes on a different server and find a new guild. make some new friends!

Actually, it is simple logic that if you buy an MMO months after launch, there will be servers that are full.

funny how so many BF3 players come to gw2 (me included and i’ve heard tones of other people)

So, I’m a casual WvWvW player, but have noticed recently that in during the weekend evenings I’ve had long ques to get into WvWvW. I’ve been on the Maguuma server since the 5 day pre-access for early buyers… Is this delay caused by the recent guesting changes about to be launched related to rules related to server switching? I don’t think people who’ve been on a server since August should have to wait 30 minutes to get into content just because people are willing to pay money to get on a popular server. Perhaps some level of seniority access algorithm???
