I can't play this game anymore.
agreed 100%
and i thought it was me..
- no fun
- grind, grind, grind
- events too slow
- masteries need too much xp. better reduce the needed xp
- no real " red line " → i feel i lost in the map
- timer is too long, 10-20 minutes > 40 mins
- boring :/
- no real " red line " -> i feel i lost in the map
Do you really need someone to take your hand? (If you do, I’m sure you can find someone ingame who will do so).
The thing is, you can do whatever you want and you will still progress. Complete a nearby event? Follow a random path? Kill some mobs on the way or just ignore them? Only complete the personal story? It is completely up to you!
Don’t feel overwhelmed with the possibilities and the amount of time to get every single bit of it… it is still an expansion and is supposed to give you hundreds of hours of gameplay.
After unlocking the glider, I just ran around the first three maps. I didn’t bother with the map wide events, I just did what ever I wanted to. Help defend the camp? Why not!
After unlocking the bouncy mushrooms I started at the first map again and took a totally different rout, explore a different area of the map… and now I have even unlocked the updrafts.
If you earn not enough exp consider using bufffood, sharpening stone and the +xp utility infusion for you ascended amulet.

Or orrrrr, here is a fun idea. Play for fun not grind. Masterys are going to happen eventually.
Another couple of people who want to be handed everything at once, and then would run and create threads ‘I don’t have anything more to do in this game’. Lol.
“boring”
I see that word being used by a lot of impatient kids these days.
I’m having a blast in the news maps, but maybe that’s because I’m playing for fun and not really paying attention to any sort of grind.

Maybe mindlessly killing everything we come across isn’t really “fun” anymore? Maybe being productive and having goals is more fulfilling in the end?
Grinding? What grinding are you talking about? This expansion has been a blast so far. Playing the game is getting me xp without even thinking about it. So many different things to do and see …. I keep getting upped without realizing it. There has been no grinding at all needed.
Well, there was not enough new content to justify the price tag, so they had to find a way to stretch it. It’s basically LS3 with a couple add-ons, and you paid the price of a full game for it xD I do feel bad for you people.

I kinda agree.
Once bitten twice shy.
HoT is amazing and was totally worth my money by so far. I see nothing to grind for – you can do anything you want and still get it, as said. And if you mention the time it might take… well, they are MASTERIES. You need to learn hard to be the very best, that’s the whole point of it. Now you’re just crying you can’t get the black belt in one day and have to work for it and get better? Wtf
Vet player here, I’ve been with anet since early Gw1 prophecies… and I agree 110%.
Just reached precursor rank 1 mastery and unlocked the collection. First look: nope. Not this time. Karka queen, tequatl, ascalon fractals and all that stuff on rank 1 already wtf.

this ^
the point of precursor crafting was so players had an alternative to the rng grind to begin with

After less than a week release…….in the genre….“Wow it’s awesome”……..you really have no idea.

First if all, the precursor scavenger hunt was supposed to be an alternative to buying the precursor or obtaining through RNG. The point WAS NOT to make them easier to obtain.
Second, the reason Anet wanted masteries to take so long to obtain was because of what happened at launch. They DO NOT want people to breeze through all masteries in a week or two, complian that the expansion was too short, and leave the game. If they had created the masteries to be done that quickly, no doubt many of the people complaining now would be complaining about it being too short.
The reason Anet made the masteries require experience is because they want to encourage people to do the events in the new maps and actually care about leveling. The reason Anet gated parts of the map behind masteries was to stop people from just face rolling through all 4 maps without actually seeing what each map has to offer.
Overall I feel that people will always look for a reason to Q.Q over something. If you’re going to leave , then leave. You won’t be missed.
Having the time of my life in the expansion. The game is a blast. I do, however, have trouble grinding through some of these forum posts.

You’re kidding right ? Second day in and some players have already unlocked the ability to get started on the precursor crafting, some others are already getting close to fractal lvl 60+ (or past it).
2 weeks ? Rest assured, a bunch will already have unlocked a lot of the new things ingame, i’m not even going into 2 months of this.
actually care about leveling
what was it called again ? Horizontal progression, NOT vertical. Right, and the players need to care about …levelling ?
If you’re going to leave , then leave. You won’t be missed.
A bit harsh, but then again, neither would you. I’ll take that as a comfort on my end.

Not all of us are so entertained by shiny pixels. My idea of fun isn’t repeating the exact same event chain 30 times for a SINGLE mastery level. And then I get to do that 30 times to earn all of my masteries.
And then I get to do that ENTIRE process again for all of my characters.
So much fun.
If you’re going to leave , then leave. You won’t be missed.
Until the day when there’s almost no one playing, and ArenaNet finds out they’re not making enough of a profit to keep making GW2 content.
Then you’ll miss dearly every single person who’s complaining.
But I agree with you. I hope everyone who has realized how HoT is little more than an overpriced and rushed piece of DLC asks for a refund and uninstalls GW2. When the ArenaNet layoffs begin, I’ll be here laughing at them and at you.
Not having everything day 1=impossible/boring grind?

You are literally attempting to use your own misunderstanding of the topic as a rebuttal against a 100% vaild point that has been expressed for several months now
This “expansion” is just Living World Season 3 behind a pay wall…. stretched out with gating and grinding in an attempt to get “expansion size gameplay hours”.

Didnt know LS 1 and 2 had new WvW maps, new massive world maps, Guild Halls, a new class and new sub classes, a new PvP mode and PvP leagues.
Cmon anet, where you hiding all that missing content?

I don’t think the development and upgrades to these systems would have happened without HoT. You also can’t use rev/the elites in them without the xpac, which will probably put you at a disadvantage.
Yeah you can say “mah $50” but then you’d be supporting gating them off, which is what everyone hates here. Its also unrealistic to expect Anet to make the changes to WvW/SPvP gated behind the xpac.
Or orrrrr, here is a fun idea. Play for fun not grind. Masterys are going to happen eventually.
Sure. Let’s do the story!
“You need gliding Mastery level 1 to continue the story”
“You need Itzel Mastery level 4 to continue the story”
Save the Bell Choir activity!
This expansion really reinforced the fact that everything is about GRINDING, GATING, and GOLD.
What “grinding” means.. doing the same event over and over again to attain something you desire, you really dont need to grind any event over and over again to attain something in the expansion, there’s way too much content, you can freely go from event to event when you suddenly notice u’v finished xp for mastery.
“Gating” – if you go by the literal meaning without why it’s used in games, u can go by “levels are in itself gates” why play an rpg? rather play a fps. more examples of gating? here you go – levels, ilevels, once per day or once per week(that includes everything inc raid loot) etc etc etc
Not to mention a lot of the items are locked behind RNG and gated by GOLD
What does this even mean? gated by gold? o.0
I can’t believe it took me this long to realize that once you reach 80, all you can really do is GRIND just to prepare yourself FOR the FUN stuff! Everything is pretty much GATED!
What do you have to “grind” to have fun? and what is gated? it’s unfortunate that you feel bored.. but pls dont use words that dont fit what you’re trying to explain.

Dude, it’s been ONE day. :P
Or orrrrr, here is a fun idea. Play for fun not grind. Masterys are going to happen eventually.
Eventually isn’t an option when you want to do the HoT story, I’ve ran into 4 or 5 ‘’mastery walls’’ now, at least once per map so far, you then have to force yourself through a 2 hour long mastery grind when you want to be doing the story instead.
My interest is waning quickly as i have managed to buy a fractal dagger after 2 years of trying to get one to drop and the general fall of WvW. This is exacerbated by the fact my ping and FPS have gone to complete kitten since the patch expansion.
I have taken several 5-6 month breaks since launch so I’ll probably do that and wait to see what happens. Reading the forums is more fun than the game itself.
Masteries are the new leveling system.
Can you go to Orr when you just start? NO, you are “gated”. XP is charging the mastery bar so you are really still just leveling, except now they combine it with Mastery Points you must earn in game to progress.
Can’t unlock all your traits and utility skills one second into the expansion? Just like when you started the game originally? So instead of getting “free” HP as you level, since there isn’t “true” leveling anymore, you have to do a bit of content.
Don’t know if the hate is coming from BETA players who simply enjoyed having elites fully enabled and now find out they have to start from the beginning. Or from players who roll alts and level them via tomes and finding out they need more HP to unlock the elite fully.
I can sort of understand that feeling because it feels like you “lost” abilities you were looking forward to. Or if you are a WvW specialist where excess HP would have required PvE play, which is why they added a means, although slow, to get HP in WvW.
But as a PvE player, I’m not disappointed so far. Maybe because I avoided the BWEs because I didn’t want to spoil myself either story or the new elites because for beta, they want players to test the elites fully so players get full access to the specialization. And now you don’t and have to pay for it. And that sucks if you weren’t expecting it.
TL;DR – although there is no level bump, we are still leveling which means maps, skills and traits are need to be earned.

by the time you finish verdant brink, elite specialization is nearly unlocked behellagh, dont really see the point most of them are trying to make regarding elite spec.

i mean ofcourse.. why would you wait 10 levels for the story.. that’s absurd or before the change, 2 or 3 levels for the story? no no.. story should be continuous, it shouldn’t be gated by levels…. hahaha.. lol
people who wouldn’t speak previously speak out now, cause the mechanics implemented now feel alien to them.

Not just unlocked, they want every trait and skill unlocked that that needs 400 HP. Yes that’s only 40 “new” hero challenges. If they had played the BWEs, the WvW players were running fully developed elites and they want to now that it’s live. Not to mention if they want any mastery they have to enter VB which means getting across the SW and that’s “icky” PvE.

yes, you can! why not? that was the whole point of GW2 – you can do whatever you want whenever you like!

^what Azure Says.
And i tough this game gave so much stuff w/o much effort already, players still say it is grindy…
MMO’s were good becouse they required time / team work / a bit of dedication, GW2 is nothing like that, Anet already dumbed the game over the roof i cant imagine the game getting worse than it is atm….

It was inevitable. They promised a small map with a ton of hoops to jump through. I decided to pass on it. Did they expect me to just hand them $50 to jump through more hoops and get no loot? No thanks!

It’s almost as if the pundits for a political party met this morning and discussed the talking points and buzzwords they’d be using for the day, and this was top of the list.

Good thing the forums are optional, then.

I can’t have fun because fun is gated behind the masteries.
Dude, it’s been ONE day. :P
Its called extrapolation. It involves math, but one day you’ll understand. Hopefully.
We really can’t farm in WvW anymore? And new areas are closed. I paid $100 for that?
My only complaint is taking so bloody long to be able to use your elite specialisation in any form of a viable state. I would’ve liked it far better if it didn’t take any hero points to unlock one trait from each line, and then you had to unlock the rest of the traits and utilities yourself.
The new maps are beautiful but I’m rushing through them with ‘gotta unlock Reaper fast!’ In my head.
I don’t see the rest of the grind as a problem. You’re playing a MMO, if you aren’t expecting grinding, you’re playing the wrong genre.
