I can't take it anymore!
Welcome to GW2! There’s plenty of gear progression, grinding, farming and maps to explore. Don’t forget to unload your wallet in the gem shop. I do feel your pain though and hope it gets better for you.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.
Race? Is there anything in-game compelling you to “be among the first”?
You start off talking about your crashes/disconnects. It makes it sound like you’re complaining about the servers, then you mention ascended crafting. wut

Yes to both. I’ve been having probs with the ascended crafting since its inception, the sheer waste of mats just to lvl up ur crafting is ridiculous and i think it goes to the heart of the various issues i’ve been having with the direction and problems with the game in general lately. If that’s ok with you, I thought i mention it here rather than making a separate post about it.
The relevance of the crafting to what i’m saying is the fact i feel now i HAVE to these events as i’m sure many other ppl are feeling the same way. As a result, there’s lot more ppl crowding these events and causing stresses on the the server which are resulting in disconnects.
As some implied above, I’m not trying to be the first in anything, far from it. If i was, i’d already have an ascended weapon, as some ppl already do. But even trying to do all this stuff casually is still very stressful, especially when ur trying to get dragonite ore (which is quite sparse compared to say bloodstone dust) and u get dc just b4 u get it, makes for very little fun.
I want my free everythings right now too!

Are u serious? You think i’m asking for free stuff here? Meh, you must be joking or trolling me.
To be honest, I think GW2 just promised something that no human being can deliver. I honestly think people don’t play MMOs solely for “fun”. Because anything you do for long periods of time becomes unfun. If you eat 10 ice creams a day for a year you will start hating it.
So GW2 realized that the “fun” was retaining players and they had to switch their game plan. And started using what other MMOs do. Dailies, weeklies, farming, time gating etc. Why? Because it works.
Trust me I hate it too, I hate seeing the daily thing every day on my screen. But I am sure it helps with retention. But I am getting to the point of burn out also.

No, they added dailies to assist players who did not have a lot of time to play. The idea of the dailies was to encourage you to do a variety of things, instead of grinding the same thing over and over. Because at that time a lot of people grinded stuff in one zone, since traveling was perceived as being penalized.
So they added rewards for doing normal things in a variety of zones. And to make things even easier, we got dailies like visiting the laurel vendor.
Of course people simply forgot that, and decided that they have to do dailies, like they previously had to grind.
Well i used to play the game ‘normally’ but as i said above, i’ve been playing since head start and don’t have much left to play. i’ve been still sticking around in hope that new maps and new worlds will be added soon, but my hope is fading fast.
b4 ascended crafting got introduced, i used to do world events if i happened to be in the right place at the right time. I never watched the timers etc. Now suddenly, in order get the mats i need i’ve started doing that and i can tell you i’m not very fond of it all and with that, has come the price of lags and disconnects.
The thing is, i know my internet is fine coz my browser is still running when i get disconnected so i’m being pushed out to make room for more important players? I’m from Australia and I’ve always felt when it comes to connection to the server priorities, we’re last on the list.
That was really brought home to me today playing with a guildie who’s American, he had no issues with disconnects while i was being thrown out all the time and it’s not the first time it’s happened either.
I have to say, if i wasn’t so far into lvling my w/smith in crafting (almost 475 now) i would just give the whole thing a miss tbh.
Why the need to go out of your way to seek these mats for ascended. What’s the rush? Why can’t you just collect the mats from the bosses when you happen upon one like you used to? You say chasing them down causes you stress and unhappiness, yet you do that to yourself. I certainly don’t go out of my way to get mats, except for logging onto a character I parked at the end of a jumping puzzle. That’s about it. I will (or will not) get an Ascended weapon when I get one, it really doesn’t matter that much, I just like the way the one looks. Still something even cooler-looking may come along before I make one, and I’ll use my mats, or whatever, for that instead. Lol. =)
They stated quite clearly that after the updated to the new materials champs at world boss events like claw of jormag and now tequatl will not longer drop anything at all. Don’t know why but it was no secret that they did it.
Join a party. A solo person trying to hit the threshold for loot is at a distinct disadvantage in an invasion. Say need a party in chat, and someone will invite you. You’ll get more drops.
Well, aint nobody is going to help you. You simply have two options:
1. Quit a game for a while and wait if it gets better (I´ve done that)
2. Get over it and play along
Ur welcome.

What is going on here? Is it only me or is anyone else feeling like gw2 has become just a racing game and one that can’t even cope with all the competitors in it?
And this is were you are wrong. Other players aren’t your “competitors”, why do you want to compete with others? Play for your own fun.
As far as feeling obligated to farm the world bosses and temples in order to gather materials I am in agreement.
I also tended to only attend these events if I was nearby doing something else.
To answer the people that ask why the rush; simple reason really, Teq was revamped to be an event that is largely dependent on organized groups and avoiding trolls in order to complete it. I have concerns that other world bosses are at risk of becoming adjusted as well thus reducing access to these items. I would rather get a good jump on my weapons and even store up some stuff for the armor options at a later date before they become unreachable or more difficult to gather.
I would not be on such a hasty timeline normally but the Teq fight has opened up the possibility that access to Dragonite ore could be reduced in the future and I would rather be ahead of the curve for a change instead of left behind.
I am not having any of the other issues as the OP right now however but I can understand the urgency he feels.

In a MMORPG – competitions are a natural thing. However, most people here can’t accept the fact that some people can play longer than them – thus the QQ that others are getting ahead and they are being “left behind”
@Tiger Ashante: Whilst I understand the frustrations you’re experiencing in game because of disconnects and crashes, with respect, I don’t think that’s ArenaNet’s issue – I would rather suspect something on your computer – and I say that because in the times I play, and relatively often at long stretches at a time, I have absolutely no crash/lock up/freeze/disconnect issue at all – and I say that playing from Australia myself. Your browser still running when you exit/get disconnected proves very little.
Who is your ISP, and have you set an endless ping to the game server whilst playing to see you’re not getting dropped packets along the way?

I don’t know, but when i get ‘fatal’ game crashes, it is, I believe Anet’s side. I always get a message that a fatal game crash has occurred and would i like to send Anet a report, which i usually do, so they have the info and it would be nice if they actually confirmed that one way or the other. These ‘fatal’ crashes are then followed up by ‘kicks’ from the game to the char select screen and usually happen shortly after i’ve re-logged into the game.
If it was my side, why would i be still logged in the game? and i never get these type of crashes with any other game. Furthermore, if these crashes only happened during big events, then i would probably suspect my end being at fault but they don’t. They can happen any place, any time, in the most quiet corner of the Tyria and typically are so sudden i can be dc’d in mid air jump in a JP for eg.
To all those posters above, implying i’m racing to get ascended gear etc, i’m not racing per se, but i’m feeling like i’m being pushed into the race, if that makes sense. If i want to craft components, that are time gated on daily basis, i need to gather enough mats to do that or else i miss out one day crafting. And in order to gather those mats, i have to now follow some website that lists timers for those events that drop those mats, which are often inaccurate and confusing to say the least, then hang around during ridiculous long spawn windows (looking at u Jormag) just to get a few dragonite ores. Or i could join the mindless champ zerg in Frostgorge Sound, just a thought of it makes me lose a few brain cells. I’m not a farmer, i hate farming, but i feel like i’m being forced into this style of play if i want to achieve the end game items.
And when i say race, i don’t mean it in a way of competition with other players, i mean i see hordes of ppl all over the place running around in a similar fashion chasing one thing or another and more urgently than ever b4. How often do you actually see people stop and talk in the game (except perhaps LA, or occasionally while waiting around for these events)? not often. The game does not feel relaxing any more (even partially), it’s too hectic and demanding of you to do certain task on a daily basis (like a job), or u miss out, and start to lose that sense of fun. I realize not all content can be fun all of the time, but tbh i’m starting to feel like i’m playing in a Skinner Box.
