I can't wear the same ascended trinket twice.
Contact support, they’re replace one of them for you.
Edit: As for written, they do say unique on them, but most people don’t realize how that applies to the purchase.
The only thing I can suggest is get in touch with support.
For future reference, anything with the ‘Unique’ tag on it, you can only equip one of.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
They are written that they are unique, therefore you need the 2nd of the rinkets that offer your chosen stat bonuses. but anyway I believe most people make that mistake in getting their trinkets.
“Unique” doesn’t mean anything to me… i sent a ticket , lets see what they can do..
You can give the spare ring and acessory to an alt, since ascended stuff is all account bound.
Yeah unique doesn’t really mean anything unless you’re familiar with mmos. Good luck hopefully customer support will help you out.
File a report if you want a replacement. They will not refund you but they may offer you a replacement.
You can also equip them all if you only infuse one of each duplicate.
I had a similar issue when I got an armor skin and support graciously made a concession for me, hopefully they can help you out too.
Never wondered why we have 2 different trinkets/rings with same stats?

They shot themselves in the foot employing this mechanism. Nowhere is it explained in game that anything tagged Unique works like that, and given GW2’s general emphasis on the more ‘casual’ market, one would think they’d either do away with such pointless limitations (because it doesn’t serve a real purpose) or explain it very plainly in a warning pop-up before you buy those sorts of things.
Or, y’know, enable you to sell your purchase right back in a given timeframe for the same amount of currency you bought it for.
Any of these would negate the problem.
This has been a problem ever since ascended gear was added in the first place, since ‘Unique’ does not apply anywhere else in the game and suddenly appears there.
It still continues to annoy new players, it seems. And they still have not dealt with the problem.
Unique is something used in quite a few MMO’s and basically means you can only equip one of those items at a time. It’s something that is never really explained anywhere so I can understand for a new player it is probably confusing. Perhaps ArenaNet could add something like a special confirmation box when you purchase unique items that explain what Unique means.
Or they could just scrap the system, since it doesn’t achieve anything at all but annoy people.
Realistically speaking, the only difference it makes is that some people might get 2 additional offensive slots at the cost of 2 additional defensive slots.
+10 power +2% dmg to guards – 10 toughness -2% dmg to guards is a change that makes the word ‘insignificant’ have an inferiority complex.
You can wear 2 of the same ring if one of them is infused (just one not both)
take a look at infusing and shizl, might be simpler than contacting support and you can tell everyone that that was your plan when you got 2 of the same ascended items
for your case it would be:

Not sure about the ashes, can’t find anything about infusing trinkets so maby ask around ingame if anyone infused theirs ( i know back items can also be infused).
Only rings and backpacks can be infused. Amulets and trinkets cannot. And the offensive/defensive difference might have had some sense in the beginning, when they planned next tiers of infusions, with better stats (like the +11 stat green ones that could be seen on some screens from test servers that were circulating some time ago). Now, when that idea has been abandoned, i’m pretty sure that the nuisance the Unique tag carry far outweights any mat sink gains that might be had from versatile stat infusion recipes.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Thx all for the answers , i sent a ticket yesterday and still no answer , i hope they’ll check that out.
It’s especially confusing to old Guild Wars 1 players as the term unique in that game was used for weapons with maximum stats for their level but the game didn’t stop you from equipping more than one at a time. They added the restriction in this game but didn’t add a warning.

They should label it “Highlander” instead, then everyone who sees it will chant “there can only be one!”

Well, you couldn’t have more than one of the same weapon equipped at a time at all, so it’s not really a fair comparison.

You could put them in your weapon slots, like you could put 2 of the same weapons in your weapon slots in this game. It’s called equipping when you do that in this game. It’s true you don’t use them at the same time but it is equipping and in this game, soul binding when you do so for the ones that soul bind.
It’s not an identical comparison but it has some important similarities.

This thing is rly frustrating… wasted 60 laurels ., and man , those laurels are hard to get , and this happens to many people ,why dont they do something about it..
Out of curiosity, what did you think “Unique” meant?
As i said “unique” doesnt mean anything to me…
Out of curiosity, what did you think “Unique” meant?
Not op, but I thougth “Unique” meant like special ring that is so rare and powerful, it has it’s own name.
I, for some reason, can equip 2 ascended rings that are the same. Not sure if it’s a bug. Both are infused.

Yep .. thats what i think about the word " Unique " : "Special "
Out of curiosity, what did you think “Unique” meant?
To me it meant an item that has a set of stats that no other item has with no reference as to whether or not you can equip 2 of them (and since you can equip 2 identical unique infused ascended items, it’s not consistent in its meaning).

But if that’s what it meant, why wouldn’t every other named item in the game have the word “Unique” on it? Or Legendaries?

That seems like a rather illogical line of thinking, though. Why would they bother marking that?
And to anyone confused by it, why wouldn’t you just type “/wiki unique” to be sure?
Yeah unique doesn’t really mean anything unless you’re familiar with mmos.
And not even then, its not a generic mmo term across all mmos.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

I came from Guild Wars 1, where the word unique for weapons had a particular meaning there referring to the stats only and for other items for their rarity. When they changed it to the new meaning, they could have made a warning and saved the players time and laurels and support time and money.
As to why would they bother marking that, they did it in Guild Wars 1 with unique weapons, minis, tonics, etc. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Unique_item
Why should I have thought to wiki a term I was familiar with in the preceding game made by the same people, a game that is the successor, the follow up game, to the original?
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
I did the same thing with the same ring….ended up just using it on an alt.
Most of the items the laurel merchant offers have a few variations of the same stat on items. The difference is the type of infusion you can put on (offensive, defensive, utility). If you want two accessories or rings of the same stat and the type of infusion doesn’t really matter to you, just find the other item with those stats.
For example, you got the ring of red death for the berserker stats. The other Berserker stat ring is Crystalline Band, it just has a defensive infusion slot.
On a side note, unless you’re really seriously allergic to it, get your ascended rings from Fractals. With the addition of dailies, it’s very very easy to get those 10 pristine for a ring. It’s a pity to consume laurels for that.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
I rly wanted to get it from fractals but its rly hard to find a group ( thats why i’ve done fractals just one time ) … nobody does fractals..

Now just stop it. We can’t have any of that “making sense” nonsense around here!
Wow I’m impressed by the understanding reactions in this thread. Nice to see.
I have seen threads like this before and most people usually responded with reactions like “grr its ur own fault, it says unique u blind?”

Out of curiosity, what did you think “Unique” meant?
I went through this same situation that the OP did in one of my first MMOs.
Being that it was a fantasy Themed RPG MMO, I figured “Unique” was some kind of term relating to “lore” and the story elements of value the item has in the story.
Since many things in real life are said to be unique but doesn’t mean “one and only”.
