Q:
I checked the box. It says "Guild" and "Wars"
GW1 = no jump.
GW2 = Jump.
Because it’s one set of minigames in a series that you don’t have to participate in if you don’t like it. And because it’s April Fools Day. It’s a fun event, thrown in for fun. I promise you go go to the places where the war is on (Orr for example) you won’t have to go into the fun box.
Because it’s optional(Don’t bother with the boxes in maps, and the dungeon/sim itself, you’re totally not forced to do any of it)? and it doesn’t really remind me of SMB, it reminds me more of levels from the Gex the Gecko series, rather.
Tengu. Make it happen.
Because from all the flaming on the forums, ANet took it all the wrong way and decided to hand us a alpha version of Guild Wars 3, now with no gear and no stats, 2 currencies and no levels
(This is satire; I love both Guild Wars 2 and Super Adventure Box)
The possible answers so far aren’t quite on topic at all. I didn’t ask “what is” Mario, or “how to” Mario, or “when to” Mario. I know all those things. Been there, Done that (20 years ago, I might add).
I asked, “Why is there Mario in my Guild Wars 2”.
While I’m asking, I might also ask “where are the guild wars, in Guilds Wars 2”
A developer made content which a large number of people enjoy, that is why.
How do you pronounce your name?

Guild Wars is a lore based thing. It doesn’t represent the game being a guild vs guild thing (not that it cannot happen though).
And the 8-bit event is an extremely minor part of the game which pleasantly surprised lots of people.
Same guys, trying to stir up arguments, they post, month after month complaining.
Really, take a chill break.
People are loving the april 1st stuff. If you don’t, that’s fine, go do something else and come back later.

Because guild wars is the lore, even though guild wars 1 had actual guild wars.
Probably wouldn’t have sold as well if they named it “Guild Buddies”.
GW1 = no jump.
GW2 = Jump.
Revolution of MMO! FTW
Asura thing.
Because Guild Wars 2 takes everything what you loved about Guild Wars 1 and throws it away in a persistant open world
Because the 6th dragon is in fact bowser and only a team up of trahearne and mario can overcome the fiend!!
Because it’s fun, and that’s what games are about. Except for a few that like to get immersed in the world and can’t handle ANYTHING that’s not related to lore. If they want to immerse themselves in a world, they should get a life.
Because I want the holographic skins and anything attached to serious content gets stuck in some RNG box in the Gem Store.

Or Guild Missions, which also had new skins in the last patch. Some I don’t like, some I do. Over all, I liked them as much as the ones in the black lion chest. Not the swords though.
Edit: Didn’t WvW get new skins too in the last patch?
So why are we getting handed Super Mario Bros?
Because it’s fun and I like to have fun in the vidya games. Don’t you like to have fun in the vidya games, or are they serious business to you?
I was just going to go check the mail, but no jumping puzzle was on the way, so I just came back inside.
I just like to have fun.

The magic word is “fun”

IRL JP? No thank you, I can hear my knees complaining just thinking about it…

Guild Wars 1 is Guild Wars. Guild Wars 2 is Guild Missions 2.

The game itself should be the fun part, not the addons…If GW released Super Box to offer some fun to its gamers, there is something wrong, in my opinion. If you don’t have fun anymore in the game, you should ask for an improvement to the core of GW, not some completely irrelevant content, that its sole purpose is to entertain kids for a limited amount of time. After a while you will be standing again in Lion’s Arch, wondering what to do…

If you find yourself doing that, your answer is “Play a different game because you’re burned out on GW2.”
Personally I like my fun gaming time to keep more than one brain cell occupied whilst not making me try to co ordinate keys to make jumps to obtain baubles- I didn’t find it entertaining at 5 years old and I still don’t.
Glad to hear so many people are enjoying it though.
Guild Wars 2 is targeted to a very casual and young audience so there will be a lot of goofy and childish things in the game. Until another MMO studio designs mature content for an adult audience we’re stuck with this one.

I rarely stand in Lion’s Arch, because I have tons of things to do, but I witness many many people standing there, especially in the stairs outside of bank. Burning out in a game that’s only 7 months old, is not a good sign. I read comments on people here and in facebook being excited about Super Box, because NOW they have something to do, that is actually fun for them and repeating the request, that this new content stays permanently in the game…Not a good sign if you ask me.

This.
Don’t forget to pop in once in a while to see whats new. To save some disappointment check the forums first, Anet seems to update constantly never changing a thing.. A few months of that and it’s another 3 gig to download.. I don’t understand it…
I wish i could sell/give the continue coins, i would give to some guildie since i dont care about that content.

If you can get people to play a game for 7 months straight you’ve made a pretty good game. Modern MMO standards of expecting people to play for years on end are ridiculous.
How about because it’s one of the best kitten updates to a game in the past 30 years ?
How about because it’s entertaining to the vast majority of players ?
How about if you don’t like it, don’t play the optional content.
So why are we getting handed Super Mario Bros?
You also notice on the box it says “Arena Net”. No one does holiday style content like ANet.

Depends on how much you play each day, for those that burn through content stupidly fast, 7 months is too much for any kind of game. Now even they can log again and do something new, what’s wrong with that?
Stop it. Okay?
No, it’s not okay. That’s why I started this thread. I really would like an answer.
If this sort of thing is what gamers want, please box it and sell it as a stand-alone, and keep this fly outta the soup. Jumping puzzles in a war-lore MMO has got to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.
It’s your guild joining the war on bunnies, giant frogs and etc, to retrieve valuable data.
I except to see a gradual decrease of amount of active players in the next coming months as ANet repeatedly fails to address GW2’s problem appropriately.

Well, the game has had jumping puzzles since its release. You don’t like them? That’s fine, you don’t have to like them. You also don’t have to do them. However, you’ve apparently decided that you get to stand up on a soapbox and tell everyone else what they can and cannot like, that you get to tell the game designers what they can and cannot make. That strikes me as a little bit arrogant.
If seven months later you’re still bad at jumping puzzles and are upset that the April Fool’s content revolves around them, then you can skip that content. Making forum posts to complain about a facet of the game that’s existed since release that has been largely well-received isn’t productive. And given the overwhelmingly positive reception that the Super Adventure Box is receiving and the number of people it’s drawing back in who have stopped playing, it’s safe to say that your attempt to dictate how the developers should develop their game is going to fall on deaf ears.
A lot of people seem to miss the underlying reason for these complains. Guild Wars 2 was advertised as this living, breathing world where humanity is on the brink of extinction – desperately fighting the elder dragons for survival.
Then you log on and see Bob running around, wearing aviator shades, bunny ears, boxing gloves and swinging cartoony wooden sword.
What worries me is that with every patch they just seem to add more ridiculous short-term content that closes the gap between a good quality title and the dozens of cheap korean f2p MMOs.
There’s nothing wrong with seasonal events and the chance to goof off but can we please see some more additions of long-term content and things that stay true to the original premise they sold the game on? Add the goofy stuff when you have a solid base of content for players to enjoy – not when they sit around in town bored with nothing to do.

A few people like you have been complaining about jumping puzzles comparing them to Super Mario.
Today is April 1st,
They gave you Super Mario.
Anet epic win.
(And they even made Infantile mode, for your level of jumping )

It’s incredible how much you fail to see the point. It’s not exactly about the jumping puzzles themselves but about the lackluster PvE, PvP and class balance attention for the past 7 months.

Which is the same thing you whinge on about in every thread…
- New content brings players back to the game.
- Platforming jump puzzles have, at large, been way more popular than ANet ever anticipated, and a huge group of players within the game have been clamoring for something like this for a long time. There has also been overwhelming support for adding more to SAB down the road. This is a great addition to GW2 because it makes lots of players happy and is a lot of fun for a lot of players.
- This was done by a different team than the teams that do everything else. It has not detracted from changes made elsewhere in GW2.
- You will still get your real-life-tyria patch at the end of April with other cool stuff that addresses your other concerns such as PvP, PvE, and WvW. Colin confirmed this in another thread.
- The team that did this was incredibly small according to Josh, a member of the team. ANet is spending very little in the way of resources on this project, and yet it has made lots of people very happy. That it has had an overwhelming amount of support may mean the team will grow for the future, and IMO that’s great.
So why are we getting handed Super Mario Bros?
April fools…..Get….It? Why do you need people to explain this you….
Yeesh people look for things to complain about I swear. All I do is WvW 90% of my time in this game. I LOVE events like this.
Well, if you want some sort of lore or story behind it, then fine. The people of Tyria can’t live their lives with nothing but war, there must be some fun and games as well. So, Motto invented this virtual gaming system to entertain people and distract them from the trouble of life. We, as adventurers, may also choose to indulge in this distraction from our Elder Dragon woes.
I’m always amused by the amount of crying optional content brings. I’ve been playing since beta weekends and I still have lots to do. I have yet to experience most if the game which I like. more content is great haven’t had the chance to try it yet but looking forward to getting back home to try. I find it hard to to see how people get the time to do all the content :/ don’t people have work, school, university, family, friends, other hobbies, sports, TV, music, books etc.
I wish I had more time to play to see all the content lol. I guess I’d only have time if I dropped some of my other activities :/
You, sir, are a very good troll.
We don’t have actual wars between guilds (GvG) either, so what’s the point?
