SAB breaks with every major content patch.
Doubt that, it could easily break with fundamental changes to physics or movement in the engine but every release? That would imply that every map breaks with every content patch. If that’s the case then there’s something fundamentally wrong with their code or systems.

SAB’s original design was part of Living Story Season 1, back when content wasn’t meant to last more than a few weeks. Unlike the permanent new zones (including Southsun), it might have been built in a way that would make no sense today.
It was rebuilt prior to its return as a festival, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t legacy code that gets stuffed up when seemingly-unrelated things are changed elsewhere in the game.
So, no, that doesn’t mean there’s something fundamentally wrong; it just means that the devs aren’t sufficiently aware of all the game’s Interconnectedness of All Things™ — that’s something true of most games and notably true for this one, as demonstrated by all sorts of bugs we’ve seen. Definitely not a good thing, but neither isn’t the sort of tragedy that some people suggest.
What exactly would be an SAB home instance?
- It can’t be a port to the festival — that’s trivial already, since the hub is accessed from Rata Sum.
- It can’t be access to the SAB, since ANet has made it clear that’s a yearly festival, not a year-round option.
- It can’t be turning the home instance into an 8-bit version of itself — that’s an enormous amount of work that wouldn’t be covered by a measly 2000 gems per buyer (since: not everyone is a fan of the 8-bit style).

Off the top of my head I can think of a few things about SAB that is different from other maps that might be what could cause the issues:
1- Unlike normal maps, where you zone in and the map loads, SAB has that map screen. It also has the mini ‘level select’ level where you pick the zone and difficulty.
2- The UI while in SAB is different. There must be unique code for that tied to SAB.
3- You essentially play a custom transformed class while in SAB. Again custom code to set this up compared to normal maps.
And that doesn’t even mention how SAB was modified from the original LW1 type format where it was originally introduced.
