Or you could roll a new toon using the race and class you want and level it to 80 in a week or two…

I’m not saying it would be something hard to implement… but the personal story line is tied to each character based on race, etc.

The only way I could forsee this to change would be to have that character change races, but have to restart the story line completely.

Which would 1) bring complaints for having to restart … 2) bring complaints for people who did restart getting to farm easy Black Lion Keys and such…

For ANET, I imagine IF… this is on the table. Then it still has a lot of deliberation to go.

Race changes are free but then you pay $50 for all of your new char’s kitten traits though…

is going to be about race change. With the new story journal, the personal story can be easily reset.

I have waypoints and map complete that I want to keep. Not to mention about about 300g worth of gear/runes for various kinds of builds depending upon what I’m currently doing.

Is there a legitimate basis against Race change aside from Personal story? Because largely, personal story is kinda crappy anyway.

If you’re going to say no, explain why. I mean, I for one chose an Asura female without realizing the Armor restrictions and I regret it. If I could race change I’d do it in a heartbeat.

I’m with you on this OP. I recently remade my engineer from charr to asura just because I couldn’t stand doing jumping puzzles on the charr, I was at least able to recoup my runes/sigils and reuse my trinkets and rifle since they are ascended. Also needed to spend a few hours farming transmute charges to make sure I had enough to get the looks I wanted. All in all it wasn’t terrible, but I certainly would be in favor of being able to purchase a race change. As a side note the story is only tied to your characters race for part of it, at a certain point everyone has the same exact story so I am sure they could figure out a way to make it happen.

$50 will net you 4000 gems, and at today’s rate of exchange, 400g. Just create a new char, level, and run waypoints n skill challenges. Don’t even have to do hearts because you already have map completion on another char.

Step 1: purchase 50$ worth of gems (that would be 4000 gems)
Step 2: (assuming you have all character slots full) purchase a new character slot, 3400 gems left.
Step 3: Convert gems to gold, you now have around 370g on your character
Step 4: Use a scroll to get the new char to level 20 if you have one, 150g to level up all crafting profesions to 400 to level up following guides here: http://www.gw2crafts.net/total.html (you get money back selling stuff you make).
Step 5: EotM for the remaining levels (I got 10 levels in one evening there).
Step 6: Use the reamining 220g (+ whatever you make selling crafted stuff) + karma from EotM + whatever you can salvage from previous character to replace gear.

Not perfect, but better than nothing..

I’d pay too.I don’t want to make new character and level it from scrach.1st i hate the leveling process in every MMO.2nd i want to keep all my items and gear.3rd i love my class the same can’t be said for the race.

Takes alot more time, then clicking race change, wich would hopefully like using a make over kit.

I expect with the story journal changes, race change is something they’ll look into.

It’s figuring out the personal story that’s the issue. And Cultural Armor.

And the personal story part is now feasible to change with the Story Journal. Before something had to happen with the first Personal Story.

Doing a Race Change should permanently lock the Personal Story section. Then it adds in a Second Personal Story section. Which acts like Living Story Episodes that you unlock but don’t start. That you have to go in and start yourself. This pleases those who do not care about the personal story and those who do care.

If the cost of the race change is high enough, it should more than cover the loot that’s earned when redoing the story.

The only issue now is the cultural armor and how to handle it. Since some people will be wearing it.
