I wanted to finish my balloon achievement, I had to visit like 2 more. But as always, they were closed and I had to kill a nearby champion.
It would be okay if there were people around to help me. But there was no one. Not a single person. On the entire map. I circled around, used chat and nothing.
Since I bought an MMO, I want to encounter others as well. Not only in Lion’s Arch and cof p1. The game is said to be casual, and you have to enjoy the little things, the exploration and stuff which I DO.
But doing it all alone. Events (group ones especially) are hard to complete and it just feels empty. Please come up with an idea to change this situation. So many wonderful maps created (best one so far in any mmo I’ve played), so why not use them? Why not enjoy them?
So I would like to ask for ideas on how to make the maps more populated.
My one would be the dailys: it should be more flexible. Like you have the Krytan killer, not it should reflect your lvl and become either Kessex/Gendarran/queensdale killer.
Or joint servers on less populated maps.
Or less waypoints.
Or more rewards for completing ordinary events.
Or just make events easier for solo.
Anything just not this empiness.
Any thoughts?

Soloing those champions is completely feasable. I soloed nearly all of the ones I had to take down. Take a look at your utilities, try different things. Sounds cliché but trust me, sometimes you need to alter up your playstyle just a bit.

The social aspect of the game is only what you make of it.

If you are part of a large friendly guild then you will always be able to find people to help out.

It’s pretty much empty if you don’t play the Living Story content, and since they release that stuff every two weeks with no break in between, you’re kinda out of luck if you can’t solo the champs or find some friends to help you with it. Scarlet will be old-hat in a short bit, but the new SAB stuff will be out, at which point even LA will seem empty depending on what server you are on.

I agree. You can solo the champs, but it is much easier to do where there are multiple people. I soloed with my ranger and my warrior, but I did have to alter my weapons and play style (melee/ranged) depending on the champ. Good luck!

Ask fellow guild members to help you, shout on map chat that you could use a hand and link the way point, transfer to a higher population server, or try to party up with others that need the same achievement. You can set your status to “looking for party” and advertise in Lion’s Arch.

These champs are completely solo-able and the reason for the emptiness is that MOST are doing the LS.

I agree with those who say to find a guild. We have people helping in our guild all the time. I’m not sure why anyone would play this game without being in a like-minded guild.

It’s funny, I play games typically because I don’t have to rely on other people to play them, but I have basically the same complaints as the OP. After coming from a game that I could do pretty much everything in by myself if I wanted (GW1), I have been a little bit frustrated by the commonness of group events and the inability to find other people to do them (same goes for dungeons, but less so). I was hoping that champ loot would help, but it’s not really been that successful. The real issue with zerging is that it prevents other areas from really being reasonable places to hang out, which in turn completely destroys the whole “everything is endgame” idea that they touted around the game’s release. The zerg is the endgame. And if it wasn’t the invasion, it would be the world bosses, or some loop around frostgorge or another area. The idea that some strange public consensus decides what constitutes endgame is kinda neat in a way, but I would rather have the freedom to actually tackle everything in the game by myself.

Also, feasible is a very different thing than reasonable, which most group events are not. Doing things for the challenge can only win out so much if there is no proper reward for the risk of continual failure and wasted time. Not going to repeatedly throw myself at a champion until I beat it for 5s and a green item. The wp and repair costs will eat that up pretty much immediately. A net loss from an encounter douses the fires of accomplishment pretty fast.

So I agree with the OP, but coming from the opposite direction.

Too bad, you must go to the nearest “Living Story Event” to actually see people play the game. Oh, or you could go to LA and watch people sit there and be afk. You actually did buy a single-player game like I did. For an mmo that boasts teamwork and avid communication, GW2 sure lacks both of those things.

I haven’t actually done any of the current Scarlet content apart from one invasion last Tuesday.
I was busy with rl stuff.
I played with my friend who had the trial this weekend and I saw quite a few people around including at the queen’s champs.
Same thing yesterday morning and today when logged on.
Depends on the server and time of day I guess.

That said the champs are completely solo-able on a high-ish level character

This is the consequence of the decision to permanently split the player population (GW2’s ‘worlds’) rather than only splitting when there are too many people in a zone for one server (GW1’s ‘districts’). It isn’t something they can reverse.

OP says he bought an MMO. Says he can’t find people to do things with and there’s noone in the world. Yes, some people advised finding a like minded guild.
But, it also says a lot about the state of the game currently that a lot of people gave the advice of how the mobs he needs are “soloable”, thereby all but agreeing he bought a single player game.

You didn’t buy a single player game, yet you play it like it it seems. Ask in map chat, guild chat, any kind of chat for help, and it will come. Obviously you aren’t trying.

If your guild isn’t interested in helping you out, then you need to find a new guild.

There are plenty of guilds full of helpful people who are more than willing to put their farming on hold to help out a fellow member in need. I know this because I’m in one.

I would suggest you socialize and make some friends, or join a guild. I play solo a majority of the time, because I don’t like to drag people along with me while I farm. But when I do need help, I have guildies who I can ask if they’re free. I can even join random people on the map and battle the big bad monster.

Unfortunately, while ANet continues to explore ways to give players incentives to explore the world, the current living story seemingly takes the entire server population and sticks everyone in one zone (and its overflows) for 45 minutes out of every hour.

That doesn’t leave much time for people to explore elsewhere, and it really does make the rest of the world feel barren.

I think after this particular Living Story event ends, the world will start to feel populated again.

On a more general note, I agree with all of the people who posted before me who stressed the importance of finding a good guild. It really does make a huge difference.

Thank you for your responses, you are all very kind! It is good to see that others also see this thing as a potential problem in the game.
Quick note: I was fortunate to be recruited into a great guild, I am proud member since day 1 (yaaay birthday), but we are going through a difficult time and our population got low and I am hesitant to ask for help sine everyone is doing wvw.
My roomate and I are always playing together, so the empiness of the maps did not quite struck me like today. His laptop broke, so now I had to face that even after 15 minutes of asking for help and rushing through a map and finding no one that I had to ask this question!
Thank you for your advices!
