So I’ve been playing guild wars 2 since beta and love the game for the most part but I dont like how the games been handled as far as patches are concerned. First Why put all the time into dungeons and such if there just going to be around for two weeks and disappear……? Seems like alot of wasted work, can we get raids with an anet twist? Dungeons that actually stay around. I love the game I really do but this temporary stuff just isn’t cutting it.

Molten Weapon Facility and Aetherblade Retreat is returning, while these mini-games will be cycled. Also, a while back, a dev said they are coming up with some form of raiding.

I believe he may be referring to Wowstar. It’s a new MMO being published by NC$oft (Anet is not involved) and it looks like… bad… to me anyway. It has all the same core elements as WoW (similar questing system, rested exp, class/race restrictions, traditional raids which means gear treadmill most likely, etc), but tries to have mobile/dodge combat like GW2, except every single thing in the game is telegraphed with an obnoxious red or blue aoe mark. Also it looks like clown barf with all the colors and cartoon style, and it tries to present itself like Team Fortress 2.

Over 30 here, and personally really liking how the game is going so far, but I do agree that I’d like to have more permanent content thrown in. I’m still having fun (playing since release, though RL doesn’t let me play on any way that could be considered hardcore), and if anything I’d complain that sometimes I just don’t get enough time to do everything in the alloted time, but I guess we’ll see how it goes in future updates, since they did say they were going to add more permanent changes in future ones, and the fact that both dungeons are going to return (as fractals) looks to me like a step in the right direction, though Id rather if they had stayed as regular additions in the areas they were in the first place.

Sometimes it does feel Anet is getting into a “kitten ed if they do, kitten ed if they don’t” area, though… people complain that there’s nothing permanent added, but when something permanent is added (the karka queen, for example), then people just ignore it and don’t do it in the first place.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

The karka queen is one big mess, it is implemented poorly.

I find the constant events to be just fluff. I haven’t seen one yet I want to participate in. I don’t find they are fun at all. Yet my gaming experience hasn’t been lessened by them. It hasn’t hurt my characters at all not participating in them.

I would like to see some more real content added though, only because I like seeing new areas.

I would suggest that you read recent blogs by Anet regarding Living Story and permanent content-
I could link it for you but since it is on your game log-in and I am 42- and so have other things to do, I’ll just leave you to it.

You can also refer to the news section of this forum for updates since the game launched- I assure you it is not all dungeons since I have done most of it and the only dungeon I have ever done is CM back in August.

They should now focus on SPVP also.

Why not use the current maps and make some different modes as:

- Domination (Dominate a single big part of the map)
- Team deathmatch (killing for points)
- Real pvp (1v1-2v2-etc, with no respawans until 1 team is completely dead)

Also to improve WvW with more content . . . maybe new events to improve defense of the towers and castles.

Also to add duels mode in the open world (this will be greate)

I mean with this changes we will have a lot more active players.

I found killing mobs really boring, i love competition and there is not much now.

Thanks for reading

The reason we keep getting temp content is that it’s making NCSoft a ton of cash. People are forking over thousands for the skins and things that come with these bi-weekly patches.
Same thing with the RNG boxes. Whether you consider it outright gambling or not, they are laughing all the way to the bank.

Only when the parent company starts to see profits go down will they make changes, and if we’re lucky they won’t just shut Anet down like they did Paragon

The OP has a point. A lot of people like the content being pumped into the game, a lot do not. I personally, think it is all BS fluff. I would rather have monthly updates with some impactful event going on that leaves a scar on the game. Like Divinities reach partially destroyed, or a giant crater of some sort in Kessex hills. Or all of the sudden, an oasis of lush land suddenly growing over night for some unexpected (but explained) reason in Plains of Ashford.

A lot of people like their mini games, collect 1000 candy pieces, find a few interesting things in the world to turn in, etc…but is this really what we want as a playerbase? It seems that it is all we are getting. With each update ever since March or April, its been some light story with a lot of minigame and some candy to eat..with some flare of fireworks or some decoration. Nothing of substance, of importance that makes me sit back in my chair and say “Holy hell, I can’t believe my eyes”..its all “Ah, thats cute.” And “ah thats cute” doesn’t cut it for an MMO, especially one that has unlimited potential such as GW2.

Edit: Does anyone else feel like checkbox-machines with these new updates? Make sure you complete the requirements for achievements so that you get more free reward…more carrots. I literally sometimes feel that I am checking things off as I go, instead of just playing.

I have been following WildStar since 20011 and it is an interesting, over the top idea- a bit traditional in game aspects for my liking but it has some very interesting concepts- I fail to see what it has to do with GW2 though (except for sharing a publisher)

I was going to somehow turn my response back to OT but there really is no point.

Me too. I’ll be your friend.

My RL friend tried GW2 for a month, got to 80 and stopped. He clings to WoW like flies to a pile of poo. He tries 5 dollar games on steam for a few days and stops…oops its tuesday and wednesday. Gotta raid. And then forgets about the crappy 5 dollar game off steam. To his credit, he’ll TRY games that I talk about all the time, some for an hour, some for a few hours…GW2 was his only pro longed exposure to a non-wow MMO.

My brother..he hops between WoW, Rift, and first person shooter single player games.

So Im WTB new friends and a new small/active casual friendly guild.

I love how nobody’s bringing up the fact that ArenaNet is planning on providing permanent content with the new 4-team setup, whereas right now we’re still in the remnants of the 1-team bi-weekly rotation. We’re going to start seeing larger and larger updates for the next 4 months until it plateaus out, giving a balance of temporary and permanent content.

I’ll attempt to tie it back in.

One might consider that since NC$oft is the publisher of both Wildstar and Guild Wars 2, then the two games are indirectly affected by each other. Remember the publisher is the company that sits on a mountain of cash and pays studios (like Anet, and Carbine) to make games for them to profit from. NC$oft has a finite supply of cash to hand out, and if they feel like Wildstar is more important, they may not give Anet as much money, which impacts the development of GW2.

Theoretically Anet may be forced to develop “cotton candy carnival” content and gem store RNG scam boxes in order to stay afloat in the absence of NC$oft’s cash infusion. I try to remain hopefully optimistic, though. I think Anet has some fun plans in store. It’s just a matter of time.

I really wish people would stop using the word cotton candy for everything that’s a dungeon or PvP. Not only does it dismiss content other people like but in fact, it’s totally misleading on a lot of fronts.

You might personally not like the new survival game, but how does that make it cotton candy. Seems that competitive people I know are enjoying it.

Liking one type of content over others is fair enough. Insulting content other people like doesn’t make anyone else that does like it sympathetic to your plight.

You may not be the only one, but that doesn’t make you a majority either. The problem is, there are lots of games that focus on dungeons and raids and some of the people enjoying this game are relatively happy Guild Wars 2 isn’t.

I think I might like dungeons more if they weren’t instanced, and they had open world dungeons, but getting 5 guys from my guild together to run an instance that doesn’t change that much wears thin for me (and many others) very quickly.

Well, I decided after many months to give it a go and make a new character (I deleted my old ones and don’t regret it). I’m level 16 I believe. Now, it’s been a while so I am getting sort of reacquainted with the game but all this stuff happens in place I haven’t heard of and it’s all sort of out there.

For me, I am just happy to ignore these events, because they don’t make much sense to me and I am apparently completely out of the loop.

I will just stick to a casual style leveling but I suspect that when I get to 80 again, that’d probably it again. Even though I quit and probably won’t play for that long again it probably was worth the 60 bucks but I kinda get that people aren’t happy with all this stuff coming and going. It certainly doesn’t give much stability to the activities and endgame by itself is a handful of dungeons and a legendary grind as far as I can tell.

But hey, what do I know…it’s just my impression at the moment but I find all this content that’s coming and going more irritating than interesting at the moment.

Some sort of elections now? Suppose it’s good I don’t care for politicians. I’ll just prod along as a diversion when I want a break from other games. It is a good diversion from time to time.

I can have an opinion too but I don’t have to phrase it in such a way as to trivialize what other people like. If you’re comfortable doing that it’s fine but it creates animosity where no animosity need me and garners you less support for your opinion with anyone who happens to like that content.

If you’re only interested in expressing your opinion, you’re doing fine. If you’re interested in building support for your opinion, you’re less likely to get it.

As long as you think in these terms, you probably will leave. But dismissing the new content before you’re seen or tried it doesn’t seem all that productive to me. Some of the new content is entertaining to some people.

Why cut yourself off from potential entertainment? Why is the previous definition of end game in an MMO something that can’t change…or even be improved upon?

For me the content is not “new” just reskinned; Happy fun boxes become holoprojectors become picnic baskets. I don’t want to waste space collecting more crap. There is nothing new about running around Gendarran fields with a “candidate buff” to get 20 events. It’s trivial; it’s mundane and it shows no creativity.

People do not mind having platforming within an MMO but when the MMO becomes a platformer; I begin looking elsewhere.

Put some frigg’n pirating into the pirates. Have their ships arrive over cities or pull into ports cause havok and mayhem.. have them loot and pillage. Make us defend innocent civilians from their excursions or turn the town into brothel filled pirate hives of skum and villiany.

Put an epic story back into the living story, not this mundane kitten.

I am starting to wonder why the Anet team abandoned their vision to release bi weekly Nintendo knock offs disguised as a living world. Why the addiction to mini games, with no attention to the game itself. There are hundreds of bugs that affect game play every day that are being compounded every time they update the game with what I consider fluff content, and most of them have been present since launch.
I had high hopes for GW2, enjoyed it immensely at launch. Now I see what many predicted when Ms. Cox was announced. Sadly it will continue until only the under 10 crowd will play. Well, I guess that fits the maturity of the mini game/jump puzzle platform that GW2 has become.

Oops. I must be in the wrong thread. I’m over 14 (over 30) and have been having a blast since release day.

Sorry for the interruption. Carry on with your displeasure sharing.

I’m 39 and i completely agree with the top three posters, i actually think a 14 yr old would realize just as fast how this game has been managed and taken bad directions as any other age group.. so stereotyping others to belittle them wont get you far.. bit like how Guildwars 2 is handling things in my opinion..

I watched the dev livestream for the current content and it didn’t take more than a minute to understand that it was an extended platformer. I don’t particularly like platformers so was not interested in this installment of the LS. I sat out the last installment for a similar reason: I don’t like the implementation of Southsun or what it represents in the game.

And, I don’t like a living world that comes and goes in monthly or bi-weekly installments. It’s not how living worlds are best modeled or evolved. But, as was said above, given the latest blog post, I think that Anet agrees with OP on this one. My reading of the blog would suggest that we will see more content of a permanent nature where our actions affect the evolutionary process. I agree with the criticisms, but am willing to give Anet time to reinvent themselves around the living story/living world. They seem to have gotten the message.

Because to some the older MMO’s were fun as they were, and to some these so called changes aren’t any better or worse than what we had in the older MMO’s..

To give you an example this current addition…two npc’s fighting to get a trade agreement, nash and keil, nothing they offer even remotely excites me, i hated fractals since NOV 2012 so i do not care which gets added, its just more grind..

The rest is just fluff, cheaper keys… really why not free keys because i’m not going to buy any with this content at any price..

Both npc areas are identical wave mode boredom with broken lockpicks spam as rewards and more tickets i do not care about..

And the latest back packs well if i wanted a re-skinned rose or to look like a pack mule i’d be ecstatic..

Honestly Vayne you must be very easily pleased..

The truth is humans are simply not that way we put high value on scarcity. The harder to get the item the more we want it even if it has no true wroth. So your key fluff makes you want these items all the more. I mean if you did not want them you would not even bring them up as an argument.
Some ppl like the new event that the idea to put out a lot of content so you can play something new that you may or may not like. If you liked every thing they put out then there would not be a need to put out more add ons and just simply explained on the content that is already out. I am sry your not the only person playing the game and or on the forums you realty need to start to think beyond just your self here this is an mmorpg there are other ppl playing it.

No, not everyone thinks like you, me and my friend both came back to check this out, We tried this content and noticed its lacking really anything…

I did the wave mode thing 4 times 3 keil 1 nash and nothing was different between the two, and yes the rewards were useless, my friend actually logged out disgusted before i did!
I’m not only thinking of my self i’m thinking of the future of this game “that could have been something great” but turned out to be nothing…

There are hundreds of bugs that affect game play every day that are being compounded every time they update the game with what I consider fluff content, and most of them have been present since launch.

1. The people who fix bugs aren’t the same people who create the content. They might not even have the same qualifications.

2. They said in the recent blog post the focus of the coming six months would be more permanent additions to content (along with improving existing content). This isn’t saying it’ll live up to everyone’s expectations (some people will like it, and some will never be happy), just that they intend to address the issue.

I never knew liking a certain type of content denoted how old the people playing it are.

Also dislike the temp content. I only get to play a few hours a week and that being the case I am going to spend it all in WvW.

But I’d love to think that I could do this content when I do have time again.

It is also anoying to see references to this new content but not having time to find out what it is.

What the hell is an aetherblade? I don’t know but I’ve only got 30 min to play, so WvW it is.

If I were easily pleased, then surely I’d have found an MMO to play prior to this one. Isn’t it just as likely I’m differently pleased.

Almost all MMOs prior to this share a lot of traits that I don’t like, including focus on dungeons and raids. I thought Rift would be different, but it wasn’t.

Just because I like something different than you doesn’t mean I’m easily pleased. In fact, from my point of view, you’re the one who’s easily pleased, because you found contentment in older MMOs that I’ve never had.

So which one of us is really easily pleased?

Do you mean because i enjoyed Guildwars more than GW2 i’m easily pleased, because i must say GW1 had so much more varied things to do, and rolled along better than GW2, i don’t think GW1 was a simple game at all and had very deep content and complex build wise..even prophecies.

If you mean other games i enjoyed for sure i loved quest givers and all the rest it worked better to me than this game does.

Simple. Fluffy/goofy/colorful content attracts newcomers. A bug fix does nothing else but that, fix a bug. Fixing bugs won’t bring new people in because they don’t even know their existence, but a new colorful casual content certainly will. the problem with anet right now is that they’re WAAAAY too focused at pleasing not their gw1 long running fanbase, not their wvw fanbase, not their pvp fanbase, not their challenge/end game lovers fanbase but casuals, casuals that come join the game every week, its their main goal to keep them busy while the rest is left out. this is a fact anyone who’ve been playing since launch could easily see.

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

+1 These cotton candy updates are beginning to bore , although I am sure the players under 14 are enjoying the mini games and collect a 1000 whatevers.

I’m closer to 41 than 14 but I’m happy with how the new content is being managed.

Do I enjoy all of it? Hell no. But they’re throwing so much stuff at us that the half of it that I do enjoy is still plenty.
