I don't Understand
after 63 views and counting apparently no one does, I apologize to all those kitten by this but heavy should easy beat light classes regardless of build. OR op profession.
Could you please spend like 5 minutes to think whether your ideas make any sense, before posting?
Armor isnt balanced.
Characters are balanced, which is why differant characters wear differant armor.
Yeah the armor categories are most certainly not balanced. Granted it’s much less of a difference than in other games but there is certainly a difference.

They are generally balanced around their armor class. An ele wearing plate armor shooting you with fireballs at range and you get close and he tanks you is not really balanced.

The armor types are essentially meaningless. They give a clear distinction of “classes” in terms of warriors versus “mages”.
Plus it would be really boring if there was only one armor type. Everyone would look very similar.
They likely carried it over from other MMOs because that’s just the way it is and everyone expects warriors/guardians to be in heavy plate armor, and elementalists/necros (“mages”) to be in cloth armor, and rangers/thieves to be in medium armor.
Beyond that, each class can defeat each other class when played correctly.
To have heavy armor classes always beat light armor classes would be absolutely dumb.
If anything, the light armor classes should melt the heavy classes, the heavy classes melt the medium classes, and the medium classes melt the light classes. Or do you expect that whoever is in the heaviest armor should simply be the most powerful?
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Alas, I don’t speak gibberish.
Actually I think it was after 63 views they all deemed the OP and the thread a bit stupid so they decided not to say anything.
Right here is one of those posts that makes me respond “Thank God” to claims that ANet doesn’t listen to their players.

Armor by itself is meaningless. Combat is made of different elements working together.
Thats like saying someone wearing kevlar will easily beat someone in a tshirt regardless of anything else.
Yeah somehow I think a person wearing kevlar armed with a plastic spoon is not going to win against someone wearing a tshirt with an automatic weapon even though kevlar is effective against bullets.
Same thing in a game, strictly speaking a warrior in full plate armor should technically stand no chance against an elementalist wearing nothing but cloth. What would the warrior do against the onsloth of fire the elementalist would throw at them? plate armor would just ensure they cook much faster if anything.
So no its not as clear cut as you thing.
Besides dont forget this is a game as such its not about realism but what really works well and like its been pointed out balance isnt just something you do on singular items but on all the elements working together.
At least, the title is accurate.
heavy should easy beat light classes regardless of build. OR op profession.
So, what would the point of being a light armour class then if you are not supposed to kill anything above you? You’ve kind of defeated your own argument.
Armor classes are something Anet tried to pull from other MMOs without thinking about how they worked or why they worked.
They essentially introduce an imbalance into the game that is never even considered.
In most MMO’s heavy classes are given heavy armor for one of two reasons.
1. They are tanks and need more armor
2. They are full time melee characters and need to survive in melee
Similarly light armor classes are light armor for two reasons
1. They are more mobile and ranged so they have less defense to make them on par with slower heavier character.
2. They do more damage so they should die faster.
Of course that is complete nonsense in GW2.
Heavy Armor:
1. There are no tanks so there goes reason 1
2. There are no melee only characters, every character has access to melee and ranged weapons with full dps potential for each
Light armor:
1. Light classes are not more mobile and are not ranged. Dagger/focus ele’s are mobile but full melee. Condi necros are mostly ranged but have 0 mobility
2. Light armor classes do not do more dps than heavy armor classes. Warriors do just as much damage (if not more, poor necros) than light armor classes
So out of the 4 reasons for armor classes, 0 of them apply to GW2.
Damage in GW2 is balanced around melee and ranged. Melee does higher damage but has less mobility/kiting potential, while ranged does less damage but has higher mobility/kiting potential. Of course your armor class doesn’t switch when you change weapons so some classes are at an inherent survivability disadvantage.
See eles. They are light armor and low HP, and as a consequence you see pretty much every ele stacking defensive utilities since they can’t stay alive without them. Meanwhile warriors are free to take full DPS utilities/traits since they have high hp and high damage and high mobility built into their class.
[…] but heavy should easy beat light classes regardless of build. […]

um, because they take different mats to craft? duh.
light armor takes more damage from attacks. heavy armor, less. medium armor, medium!
light armor shows more skin. heavy, less skin. medium armor… lesse.. medium!
light armor is expensive! heavy armor is expensive! medium armor is cheap! wait…
Char and Norns should have more health seeing as their bigger and should be tougher and stronger, I think its to easy for lighter classes to deal massive amounts of damage so fast I don’t know what is going on, or what their using, pvp is fun sometimes but when I get killed due to an ele, mes, theif, pretty much anyone who isn’t in knights armor heavy. No sir I don’t like it. lol

Actually one of those heavy classes was so OP that their trait had to be disabled. And they’re still wrecking everyone with their burning damage.
Sorry, but I would really advise you to do these things.
- Stop lol-ing constantly. You’re not laughing out loud. It isn’t even funny to read, it’s depressing.
- Play the actual game. Like, make a character. Level it, try it some. Try another maybe. Get a feeling for how GW2 works. Nice, you bought the box, and you read some about it on the internet, we appreciate it, but before you judge, play some.
Sounds to me like there is a “I come from a previous MMO” issue here…
“I have better/heavier armor, I expect to win”
“I am a specific race/class, I expect to be better at ‘x’ or have more ‘y’”
Can anyone tell me the point in Light, Medium, Heavy Armor, if its balanced……lol
Can you tell me why the classes that wear lighter armor run slower than those with heavy?
Can you tell me why a warrior wearing full heavy armor can swing a huge 2 handed weapon faster than someone using a dagger?
Can you tell me why having over 3k armor means nothing in this game? (Not counting conditions).
Things are not balanced, period.
Armor isnt balanced.
Characters are balanced, which is why differant characters wear differant armor. They are generally balanced around their armor class. An ele wearing plate armor shooting you with fireballs at range and you get close and he tanks you is not really balanced.
Now, an elementalist in light armor, shooting you with fireballs at range and you get close and he tanks you anyway, that is balanced.
