I don't know what class to play!
Elementalists are one of the higher skill cap classes to play. They are viable in both PvE and PvP. Infact, almost every high-level tPvP team rolls with at least one or even two elementalists.
Most of the “terrible things” you hear about any class can be attributed simply to bad players. If you are confident in your ability at this game then I suggest you continue your Ele as they are one of the more powerful classes in the right hands. If you think that your ele may end up in the wrong hands though, then I would suggest that you perhaps reroll another class.
At the moment, for tPvP anyway, all classes are represented pretty equally, with perhaps the most dominant class being the Guardian.

Well I played WoW for about 5 years and my focus was always PvE, I eventually managed to down DW on normal and Mor’Chok on heroic before the tryharding stopped. (google Unshackled, warrior on Mazrigos EU)
But GW2 is completely different and I haven’t even found a guild yet :|
You mention PvP, but tbh my focus is PvE. I’m already struggling to kill mobs vs when I was a lower level.
Prepare to be disappointed with GW2’s PvE. It’s like the leveling up content in other games and that’s it.
You will be told to go back to earlier zones and repeat the same faceroll easy DEs. Because repeating content that was already easy the 1st time is Anet’s definition of endgame. I wish I was joking, I am not at all.
The biggest problem with the game’s PvE is that Anet designed themselves into a corner by making classes so restricted and shallow.
Why are you facerolling content that’s too easy instead of going to a different map in the appropriate level bracket?
in the list of developers I have the least faith & trust in.
Congratulations ArenaNet!

I was referring to “The Endgame reimagined”, an article from Anet that suggested their entire game is the endgame.
It was an insult to everyone’s intelligence honestly.
Do I even need to comment on the “level appropriate” area for 80s? It’s a disaster.
Endgame just after an MMO release is a whole different matter to leveling content.
People who rush through MMOs have the exact same complaint every time.
And then they go and burn through another MMO and getting bored within days.
:Edit:
You’d think they’d learn their lesson, eh?

100% wrong Jest. GW1 was tons of fun and getting to level 20 took no time at all.
GW2 is a shiny shell of an actual game for people who don’t want or need any depth. I suppose some people can enjoy wandering around zerging stuff with their preset character, but tons will get very bored very quickly.
You are right this is a common complaint lately. Recent mmos haven’t been very good and they haven’t delivered on endgame. GW2 is just like them, which is a shame.

People who complain that the classes all come premade and there is no variety in how to play them are, frankly, lacking in creativity. I switch my weapons and skills out every ten levels – give or take – to keep things fresh and exciting and I’m always finding new ways to have fun with my character. (and I haven’t even used every weapon I can yet) Yeah, if ya pick one build and only ever play that one build you’ll get bored … but that isn’t the way the game is made.
There are tons of fun things to do and experience in the game; if you slow down and experience ’em … and if you take the time to play yer character instead of button mash through it.
I say, stick with your elementalist as long as you’re having fun with it; if you stop having fun, and you can’t get it back by tryin’ different builds, then roll up somethin’ else. Don’t let anyone else’s way of havin’ fun, or not havin’ fun, decide how you’re gonna play the game.
I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.
Elementalists are one of the higher skill cap classes to play..
Blah, I’m tired to hear this.
My gf is maining an Ele and she doesn’t have an hard time nor she thinks Ele has an high skillcap.
And she’s been facemelting people with it.
Hitting more buttons doesn’t make a class require higher “skill” cap, just more management.
There is a difference.
Wanna be cool , dark ,feared and hated? play a thief.xD
@ OP
You could try mesmer.
I played a guardian to 80 and warrior to 30 so far. I’ve now got a mesmer to 36 and im loving it. its much harder to player, simple skill rotations actually requir weapon swaping and managing your clones. It really requirs you to think, and you get heavily penalised if you use the wrong weapons and trait setups.
Took me a little while to figure out which weapos and such to use for best performance, once i did though.. the class sudenly came into its own.
