My $.02:

Jory: I like her. Of all the companions, I feel like she’s the most capable in a fight. She’s got a good sense of humor, and while her voice acting isn’t the best I’ve heard, I don’t think it’s as bad as other people seem to. She manages to be confident and in charge without detracting from the PC’s leadership. I see her largely as my “second in command.”

Kas: Meh. I don’t dislike her, but she doesn’t do much for me overall. She justifies her role beyond eye candy, but the fact that she still looks so much like eye candy makes it hard for me to like her.

Kas + Jory: I don’t mind how it’s written; it’s not a perfectly crafted fantasy romance but that doesn’t bug me. I’ve seen better, but I’ve seen way worse. I do wish it was a bit less prominent, though. At times, Kas acts like her sole purpose in the world is to be Jory’s girl. That bugs me.

Rox: Ok character. I like her personality, but those eyes. Eugh. Too anime-esque for how I envision a dangerous Charr ranger. Her interactions with Braham are nice; there’s a hint of romance without it being openly acknowledged, and I want to see if that develops further.

Braham: Ok character. To me, he’s like Jacob from Mass Effect 2. He’s a solid character, with a likable personality. He’s got some issues, but he’s got a pretty solid handle on them himself. However, the fact that he’s got a good handle on life also makes him less interesting, since his problems don’t butt into your adventuring. As I said above, I want to see how his relationship with Rox develops. I also like how protective he is of Taimi; it adds a nice extra dimension to his personality.

Taimi: My favorite. She’s well-written for her character. She’s exceptionally intelligent, even for an Asura, and doesn’t let us forget it. Despite that, she’s still a kid, and her demonstrated maturity level doesn’t let us forget that either. Sometimes I just want to pick her up and hug her, and other times I want to punt her off a cliff. Because she’s able to evoke such a range of emotion from me, I would argue she’s the best-written.

Canach: Can I have him officially in my group yet? He’s competent and dangerous. He knows his way around a battlefield, and is useful anywhere from an open battle to stealth and subterfuge. He’s keen on getting the right end, even if he disregards the morals of the means. While I disagree with his methods, he’s proven that he can get kitten done. Also, his morally wayward stance makes him an ideal final party member to round out the cast. Every group of good people needs the token person willing to do the dirty work, and Canach is perfect for that role.

Overall, I like the group. Kas + Jory is a bit forced, and Braham and Rox fall flat sometimes, but it isn’t that bad, and Taimi and Canach make up for it.

if you don’t like them, then don’t play out the story. there are plenty of other things which you can do in the game that doens’t involve the storyline. i personally love all of the characters, especially kasjory, and would be upset if they took out any of these characters.

achievement points and some exclusive rewards are gated bahind the story,
and this is the right of the customer to complain about the product especially if he explains why he doesnt like it; that being said your post lacks constructive arguments and it is basicaly “I like it so go away”

If you want the AP/rewards, you can deal with it and do the story. I don’t know what you aim to accomplish by complaining about it, because they’re not going to change their plans for the story just because you would have written the characters differently.

Besides that, if you’re looking for compelling story in an MMO, you’re already doing something wrong. I’m not saying it can’t happen, but when you’re supposed to be the singular hero who saved the world among a million other players experiencing the same story, don’t expect it to be superb.

And by the way, “if you don’t like it, do something else” is a perfectly valid argument. If it’s not worth the trouble to you to get the reward, you don’t deserve the reward, and you shouldn’t be doing the content. Not that ignoring NPC’s for half an hour is hard.

I don’t care one way or the other about the characters. When I do the story, I abide the shallow dialogue and follow the over-arching plot. On the whole, the characters are not very deep or complicated (big surprise, considering the game’s audience… mind you it’s rated T), but what POSSIBLE reason is there for giving a rat’s kitten about that? This is an MMO. You play an MMO to kill time and have social fun in an online fantasy world where you fight giant things. The plot is just a device to introduce progression in the environment, and there’s no sense in getting hung up on something you don’t like about it.

Feel free to continue pontificating about why the characters are bad and they should feel bad. But do be aware that nothing more is going to come of it than your average book club.

To be honest I don’t feel like my character accomplished anything in this game, lorewise. It is said over and over again by npcs “you’re the boss” “hooray the commander” etc but after replaying the content I felt more like a sidekick of Jory and others complimenting everything I did like I should feel rewarded. Yeah, few lines of dialog is not a reward a hero dreams about.

It feels like becoming a member of White Mantle in GW1. A ceremony, fat guy telling me I am cool but afterall it left 0 feelings and is totally underplayed.

For me there should be no NPC party running aroung our character. We are the heroes. Why should I care about teenage lovestory or an asura progeny trying to be rebel. Those characters drive the focus from my character and it feels like the game is about them. Not even dragons.

I like DE1.0 more because they are not running around me. They have story behind them, they have their own troubles and they don’t try to be my sidekicks. With DE2.0 it feels like gathering of homeless wannabe heroes with no real reason to do so.

Really agree with this.

On the subject of characters, this is coming from someone who didn’t play S1 because I really didn’t care/missed out on some of the story episodes throughout it.

I actually think Braham is the most tolerable and realistic NPC in the group. Kasjory is sickening and overdone, Taimi is an annoying runt (like basically every other asura in the game) who only has relevance for her genetics/inherent genius and luck with her ley line studies having any relevance in the world (otherwise a useless NPC who isn’t even particularly interesting or comedic), and Rox is just too out there. The anime eyes I think are largely to blame. I can understand a softie-char like Tybalt being an outcast to the charr (like Tybalt was with his comrades), but the whole weak/cutesey trope thing just doesn’t work. There’s a difference between being kind and being cute and immature.

Braham at least makes sense in terms of his role and subsequent writing. He’s a guy raised by a bunch of party-loving brutes who esteem themselves on the hunt and synergy with animal spirits, not to mention the (deceased) single-parent and lack of moderation/known level-headed-ness Eir brings/mother figure. Nobody should expect much in terms of social common sense and intellect from him, and that’s portrayed well. With his mother – there should be no connection – that’s the point. She made an active decision to not help raise her son. She would have a total disconnect from him and vice versa; that ‘love’ and feeling of regret is obligatory mostly because of the death of the father. That entire relationship should be of [chat filter prevention] awkward anger and regret filling the void between them. What Braham gives Taimi is the relationship of nurturing/pride he never really had with his mom in attempts to fill it, and honestly, completes him much more as a character than anyone else in the group. He’s also seen some progression in responsibility and holding back on the “smash-first” attitude over time, further portraying character growth and development.

Just my two cents.

I like all the characters but they lack the seriousness that the original Destiny’s Edge had. It feels more like the Scooby Doo detective agency than a Force that hunts and destroys Dragons.

Original DE all feel like powerful characters with tough personalities; ruthless even to get the job done. Maybe everyone’s just too inexperienced right naow? ;s I like Marjory and Braham the most, the others just don’t come off as useful and more like apprentices I have to protect who offer me minor assistance here and there and maybe send to get coffee. ;s

Canach is awesome but I guess there’s no room for him. :o

Okay, if you want Destiny’s Edge back, you have to let me murder Zojja first.

Why stop there, there are plenty of other Asura…

Because that one . . . irritates me.

Besides, given enough time the entire asura race will kill themselves. Haven’t you seen the fractal where it happens?

if you mean Thaumanova, then that already happened, if you mean that weird cat golem place, I would REALLY want to know what that was about. Also Cliffside. Who was that giant and why is that the ONLY time in the game we even see or hear about such a species existing?

And other than that I would reluctantly give you Zojja, if I can see Caithe and her lover die a miserable death.

I’m okay with killing off Faolain, unless you’re talking about Canach. In which case, no. You can’t have him.

Sad part is, we already tried getting rid of Rytlock. He just came back. ( Probably to shill more Super Adventure Box. )
