I don't like new dailies
They’re making short-term decisions which make metrics look better in the short term, but will IMO kill the game in the long-term by alienating loyal players which were willing to support the game.
Once loyal players are gone and they’re out of new players, the game will die. But it will happen tomorrow, while today everything looks better and the money keep coming – which is perfectly sensible from the business point of view if you’ve been hired for a certain period of time and are not working on a product which should make everyone happy and feed you till the rest of your.
Thats what i wonder too.
To me it seems Anet is focusing on another type of client.
Clearly its not us hardcore users, not the big guilds who provide guides to PVE or PVP,
But also not your casual gamer who KNOWS how to play a game and don’t need his hand held.
It’s probaly some kind of casual who does not want to play the game but want to log in, press the win button and drop cash on gemstore.
Nothing i can do, other than rant and not deposit money on gemstore until this game goes back to be what i started to invest in 2012.
Yet another good topic what will soon be filled by screaming fan girls wanting cat ears and other pointless furry stuff.
WEll at least its warm while it burns.

ncsoft directing anet to tank the game while they are planning for Lineage Eternal and Blade&Soul western release. Milking it on the way down, oh look new outfit. Wheeeee …
There are only so many mmorpg players you won’t have enough for every mmorpg game. Human race aren’t producing geeks fast enough.

Whatever they are doing right now, it is just not the right direction.
The new daily’s are just yet another sad and pointless remake that does not NOTHING yet antagonise the majority of people who have been here from the start. Why do you insist on doing this? The daily’s, the traits…., the pvp?
The majority of a game’s playersbase is very rarely the ones writing on a forum, it’s USUALLY a minority of the players who do this. Then there’s the problem that if people are content they produce a smaller amount of posts (there is nothing to complain about so it get’s meaningless to just make posts that praise and are happy).
So I hardly believe that you who complain are in majority
but there are people who will help you get back up when you are downed

It goes both way, not every upset players actually participate on the forum too. So what we left with which is more, upset or not upset. You can use that argument ^ on the last fractal update for instance, it is fact by now they alienated many fractal players. I remembered the days ppl actually queue up for fractals, web based lfg was loaded back then. The change on fractal was definitely a negative one. Only time will tell.
The amount of forum post won’t show the total of ppl disliking or liking. What happened in game will.
Why are you spending time on this stuff yet neglecting dungeons, new pvp maps and MODES, new weapon types and classes…STUFF that the overwhelming majority of people want.
Yeah, that’s been my biggest beef with the majority of releases in the last year. Sure, we get some cool stuff…but it doesn’t address any of the reasons why I’m tired of the game. “Oh cool, new dailies – still nothing that rekindles my interest in this game.”
People who argue that we wouldn’t be “satisfied” because we’ll burn through content faster than they can develop clearly never heard of the term “replayable” or are just lemmings/rubes to the Nth degree.

Why bother with finger acrobatics against the silent majority circus? They’d rather resort to the rhetoric of “forum participants are a minority” ad nauseam than accept something as sensible as the duality/artificiality of their argument.

It’s been 2 years, everything feels stale tbh. Living story has virtually no replay value after you’ve done with the achv. The sad thing is, they keep pumping out those. Then come a break like this, throws in rehash holiday event. Meeeeeh …..
I’ll still play but can’t sake off that feeling boredom creeping in.

It didn’t start feeling really stale for me until about 2 years in. Which, honestly, I was expecting enough changes to possible weapon/utility skill additions or even an expansion to not make it feel that stale. It managed to stay strong for a long time because it’s a good game. Now they just need to use what made this game good in the first place and keep going with it, instead of hoping they just improve their short term metrics.
The new daily log-in system will likely give them artificial metrics to bask themselves in. If I spend 5 minutes of my day to collect a chest and then get off, then they can use me as a metric for an “active player” who must be satisfied with the content because I log in. It’s so artificial, I’m unsure how some people can actually grasp this as being a win-win change for people.

So if you are either A a new character or B someone who hate spvp/wvw ..no daily for you.

NEW FEATURES AND CONTENT
New Daily Achievement System
Achievements have been divided into 3 categories: PvE, WvW, and PvP.
The number of available achievements per day is based on the highest-level character on an account:
Levels 1 – 10: 1 achievement per category
Levels 11 – 30: 3 achievements per category
Levels 31 – 80: 4 achievements per category
Completing daily achievements now awards players with items and/or experience based on their corresponding content type, such as WvW daily achievements rewarding world experience.
Completing daily achievements no longer awards players with achievement points.
A new Daily Completionist achievement has been added and is earned by completing any combination of daily achievements from the three categories.
Completing the Daily Completionist achievement rewards players with 10 achievement points.
December will be the final month to include monthly achievements.
Existing daily and monthly achievement rewards have been rolled into the new log-in reward system.

The forums represent a minority of players only when it is convenient to one’s argument to have it thus. Go back and read the vast and ranty ascended gear exchanges of 2012 and see whose alleged demands allegedly manifested anet’s heel turn. Wisdom awaits.
OP hit the nail on the head. As the saying goes “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it”.
As for the ‘forum minority’. That is often used out of context. The ‘forum minority’ is the fact that only a small % of the player base actually use the forums. However, this is a sample size that reflects the whole. Like the OP, I too see what people are saying in map chat, guild chat, and on TS. The majority of forum warriors seem to agree on certain issues (ie traits) and this does mean that the majority of the player base as a whole agree on those same issues.
I just do not understand for the life of me why they refuse to give the playerbase at large what it wants. It is simple, basic stuff….They are screwing around with things here and there while the big picture is lost. At the end of the day, I got my money out of this game. I just think it’s a crying shame, a game with SO much potential is a shadow of what could have been
I support the OP.
Wont change anything, and whatever we say will be ignored.
But if more people actually say how they feel for the game after two years of the same stuff will make the new players that enter the forums realise how the game is sinking deeper.
Until there are changes at the top of Anet’s leadership positions, absolutely NOTHING will change.
This is the “New Content” Anet is always praising in their posts. They are trying to put minimal efforts into this game for getting maximum profit. They are not planning for this game for the next 2-3 years, only for the next patch and the next batch of useless shop items. And if this means that they have to destroy what was working perfectly fine they will simply do this. The contractors surely wont stop them from doing that and those devs who truly love GW2 and its world are obviously the minority.
Start looking for a new game which is worth to be loved and played, this one is going faster down than Javelin Rocket on a armored target. And from its course in the past 12 months it wont change.

What if, WHAT IF??? What if everything is actually going well at ANet, and you all who come on here day after day to sound the alarm of imminent DOOM are totally mistaken, and too arrogant to see how wrong you are?
What if the reason ANet is ignoring you is because they have a bigger picture than you do, and they can see that everything is fine, and that doing what you suggest would not be the best course of action?

But then the world would not be flowing in the preconceived direction that they believe with their heart and soul. So the world would be wrong and reality would need to conform to their beliefs. Since reality would then change they are then correct.

That not necessarily invalidates any argument here, pretty much just confirms it. The playerbase focus has changed, it may be more lucrative, but it is NOT for us long timers.
There is this famous game with trinity who is WAY more sucessfull than GW2, it catters to another audience and all, but many copied the formula and failed. Gw2 started with a premisse of being diferent, we bet our money on it, AND IT WAS… at launch and a few months after it. Now we feel “betrayed”, and each new update just enforces that.
Because, metrics.
GW2 is awesome, 10/10! Nothing needs added; will play for 8 years in current state.

That’s actually pretty funny, or scary, or something, when you think about it. If the game is going well and everything is fine now, after all the game-changing changes that have been made since the game launched, then, it would seem, the game was not going well and everything was not fine prior to the most recent change. Hindsight, honed to utmost ocular perfection by the roughly two and a half years that have passed since the game launched, now reveals that the game, as it launched, was not the rousing success we previously thought, but rather one of the most embarrassing disasters in the history of gaming. So many errors that needed correction! Corrections, even, that needed corrections — and then more corrections (see: dailies). In retrospect, it’s a miracle the game exists today, and a greater miracle that anet is not a melancholy memory of gaming glories past.
Because they forgot a basic rule of marketing: if you want to be successful, you do not give to your customers what YOU like, you give them what THEY like.
I would say that the people who can monitor player preference by pulling actual data directly from the game, measuring every single individual player’s behavior, have a more accurate understanding of what the player base wants than us, who only really see the angst-filled posts on the forums.
I don’t know OP. I posted a screenshot from an account where the highest level is level 41 where Silverwastes event completer was replaced by Queensdale event completer.
And I don’t think the majority of people dislike this change, but I do think the majority of people who post on these forums who don’t like the change are claiming they have a majority.
Most people I’ve talked to either like it or aren’t affected at all.
I mean you know, giving most people free stuff is something that most people enjoy…at least I’m pretty sure that’s how it goes down. The average person playing the game isn’t all that focused on dailies to begin with, and they’re being rewarded.
What makes you think most players wouldn’t like that?
really smart, academic, creative and intelligent people know that fiddles didn’t exist in ancient Rome and that Nero was actually in Antium at the time of the fire.
I completely support the OP on this.
I liked the old achievement system, but I also want to keep an open mind.
After a day on the new achievement system, all I can say is: you done kittened it up. I liked the variety of the old achievements. I could get a daily without giving it much thought, most days. I like the idea of changing it up a bit, like the Ascalonian Vista one. But not reducing the variety available. If someone still wanted to just gather and kill stuff (y’know, participate in normal gameplay) for their daily, why not leave that open to them?
Login system is nothing good. Free loot—don’t really need it, just contributes to inflation. Also, what’s the point of rewards upon login? If it’s not there to habit-form (which they thank goodness didn’t do) then it’s just… yay, more click-to-get-stuff. shrugs
Not much good, added, overall user experience sunk.
Same goes for the new leveling experience. It feels even more contrived than any of the other MMOs I’ve played. “Well, you’re a new level now, here’s your new stuff, go that way!” except you don’t get it from an NPC, just a minimalist box on your screen. As someone who values at least a little immersion, I really liked the old system. Use your weapon to unlock skills—not auto-unlock at level X. No intrusive dialogue saying “you met this arbitrary number of experience points (also a contrived construct); we’re going to interrupt your experience again!”
I enjoy the Living Story. I like that they’re slowly introducing us to the new zones, and giving us some more story. I like that the world doesn’t just stay static.
If anything, I want more of this.
I want the original zones to change. Make Orr look like it’s healing, since it’s been two years. Thin out the Flame Legion, or think up something to make them come back after the death of their leader in CoF. I could go on for a while.
Or even, if you don’t want to do that, add a new dungeon. Something replayable with a small number of people, that can be used as a challenge if you want to try it solo. Buuut that’s not quite this topic.
I feel like the game has lost some of what made it unique when I started playing. What I liked about it. They’re messing with things that aren’t broken and not working (as hard as they probably could be) on what needs work. I almost feel like they have a few UX guys lying around doing nothing (because the user experience was great before, didn’t need work!) whom they just shoved together and said “do stuff”. And this was the result of that mess.
Many “big” projects have done nothing in terms of new content, while actively destroying the game’s fundamentals . It’s like some great programmers designed a great game then left, and a bunch of monkeys moved in and wrecked everything.
1. Traits.
2. NPE.
3. Dailies (x4? What iteration are we on now?)
4. Fractal reset. Fractal daily chest breaking.
5. Various WvW changes removing play mechanics.
6. Holiday events (stale/REVERTING to prior broken mechanics.)
7. LA destruction.
8. Removal of SAB. Why? Why?
It’s not that this game hasn’t changed over 2 years. It’s that many things which made the game great have been actively destroyed. It’s not that ANET is just wasting time over there, it’s that they’re making the game actually worse.
Please, just stop with the fluffy crap and create something instead of breaking.

Unless Anet surprises everyone with an expansion pack dwarfing anything ever released in the history of online gaming in the next three months you are sadly mistaken. There is no big picture. Everything is not fine, and it doesn’t matter what we suggest Anet will release what Anet wants to release without a second thought to the state of the game. The proof is in the last 2 1/2 years.
What players see are in-game chat and forum posts made by veteran players who spend thousands of hours into the game.
What a company sees is a list of tickets sent by new players and other people who spend a few hours in the game each month.
One of the two will be prioritized, and I’m going to let you guess which.

It’s ANETS arrogance that’s the issue.
Because they forgot a basic rule of marketing: if you want to be successful, you do not give to your customers what YOU like, you give them what THEY like.
I think that the rule is:
“Don’t give them what they ask for, give them what they want.”
Not quite the same meaning,
People who argue that we wouldn’t be “satisfied” because we’ll burn through content faster than they can develop clearly never heard of the term “replayable” or are just lemmings/rubes to the Nth degree.
The problem is nowadays, people assume “replayable” = grind.
Player: " if I’m expected to replay it, I better be rewarded."
Anet: “OK, you get these tokens to turn for loot / you get an RNG chance to get shiney rare loot”
Player: “omg you promised us no grind!”
And if they made it you only had to run it 5 times for 5 different pieces, it would suddenly be “omg so short more content anet!”
Don’t fix what isn’t broken. Yes the new dailies are an improvement over the old ones in many respects, however the old system wasn’t broken or even bad. The old ones most of the time also didn’t require you to go out of your way to get dailies. The new player experience (NPE) straight up took away a lot of what made GW2 good when I was a new player. The NPE has personally made me extremely reluctant to level any new alts by adding needless grind to the game. Yes, giving new players a helping hand is a good thing. However I feel that Anet is on their own “island” so to speak. How many new players does GW2 get these days? My guess is not too many. Ncsoft themselves have said that the core playerbase has stabilized with most of their income coming from established players. GW2 hasn’t really done any advertising to attract new players and has been pretty low on the radar in terms of MMO releases and expansions(probably because GW2 has none so far). My vain hope is that the developers and marketers at Anet haven’t gone completely bonkers and that they released things such as the NPE and new dailies to pave the way for an expansion of some sort. But that might be wishful thinking on my part.
As many have said before me I feel like Anet is paying too much attention to statistics and metrics which are easily measured. However, statistics alone without any background context are meaningless. It is extremely difficult to turn things like player opinion and desires into a metric. However, this information is invaluable and gives meaning to statistics and metrics. Anet seems to be sacrificing long term gains and player loyalty to gain income in the short term.
I am not sure what kind of feedback, if any, Anet takes from players. Players have been begging for changes such as new skills/weapons sets, new dungeons, more new areas. However, Anet’s priorities don’t seem to match what the general player base wants and while they are getting better on content delivery, it is not enough .
On the surface, Anet seems to be out of touch. These problems are magnified by the fact that Anet has a closed door policy and does not communicate their plans with the fanbase. How are fans supposed to get excited if literally nothing is announced until a month or less before release? Yes, players are going to be disappointed and complain if a feature or piece of content doesn’t quite pan out but honestly, the devs at Anet need to toughen up. Anet can hide behind forum moderations all they want, but they cannot hide from reality. How can a company, especially a company focused on creating games expect to succeed without good communication with their customers and fanbase? Ultimately Anet needs to pump out some real and significant content and get rid of their current communication policy. Sure tomorrow, most players will still be here, but how long until even the most stalwart of veterans start leaving one after another out of sheer boredom?
(edited by Piratoz.8627)
I don’t agree with the general sentiment of this thread but I do think it’s rather silly that in a little over two years this is the third or fourth iteration of the daily achievments category.
There are things I like about the current system and overall I think it’s better than the old system, but I think it’s silly they keep revamping it instead of putting those resources into something else.
Because they forgot a basic rule of marketing: if you want to be successful, you do not give to your customers what YOU like, you give them what THEY like.
I think that the rule is:
“Don’t give them what they ask for, give them what they want.”
Not quite the same meaning,
Seeing what people ask for is a fundamental part of establishing what they want, though. The distinction is that it requires going a little deeper, identifying what the motivation is behind asking for certain things, and seeing if what a person is asking for is actually the best way of giving them what they want or if you can do it better.
For instance, consider the infamous example of the automobile manufacturer saying that their customers would have asked for a faster horse. What the auto industry effectively gave us was faster horses. A motorcycle is essentially a faster horse: it carries out a similar role of carrying one or two people and a limited amount of gear. A car is a faster horse and cart – it can carry a small family and traveling possessions. Essentially, the demand for ‘faster horses’ was translated into ‘faster transport’ and a superior substitute for the requested faster horses was provided.
Translate this into GW2 and… well, there are a lot of things that players have been asking for and anticipating since release that either have not been addressed, or have only been addressed in a token manner that does little to satisfy the underlying desires.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
You know…it’s often true that really smart, academic, creative and intelligent people lack common sense. This is what I believe is happening at Anet. Why oh WHY are they wasting time rearranging things that no one ever complained about – for the worst I might add – while NOT addressing what people really want?
You are absolutely wrong that noone complained.There is a specific group of people that were not happy about the old achievement daily and that were the AP hunters.They considered it to be hell of a farm.Before they had to do 10/10 for full reward.Now it has to be done only 3 dailies for full 10 AP reward.So Anet actually did something right.
I have a question, since it’s been over a year now. Those Fractal Gear Boxes still have not been added to the game (sine the Fractured update)? I mean for all the UI changes that take a few months or years to develop. This one simple reward system has taken over a year, and has yet to be fully implement into the game? I mean we already have so many countless systems that mimic this exact reward mechanic premise.
Yet the daily system got revamped two times over, the NPE system was implemented, and the trait system was revamped. I mean looking at all this fluff (because that is what it is), anyone new coming into this game now is basically screwed. It’s like everything that was simple/fun to complete has become tedious/boring. Whenever I see a new player now I envy them for anything they want to accomplish in this game.
(edited by Sindex.9520)
The perception seems to be.. that there’s multiple teams working on multiple projects. Supposedly, they hired a lot of employees, and are working on something big in the background, while another smaller team is managing the current game.
Currently, the game just feels like it’s in maintenance mode, with the exception of the living story content.
I’m playing other MMO’s and doing other things in real life, but i check sometimes on GW2, hopefully to see it get something more substantial, but one day i’ll just uninstall the game even though i don’t want to. Oh well.

So they aren’t going to complain about now having to do a specific world boss or fractals instead of the old system which you could do without even trying??? Rightttt…..
I’m about to get a clicking disease… please, add a Use All option for consumables’ context menu.

This could count for containers too, for such there are two options programming-wise:
A) Count number of available slots, if last “rolled out” item exceeds slot number, drop lower rarity items from roll or rollback that last item and quit processing rolls. Something like:
[pre]itemsArray = new itemArray();
for (container in containers){
for (c in container){
while (count(itemsArray) > availablePlayerInventory()){
itemsArray = rollLoot(CONTAINER_ID);
}
appendToInventory(itemsArray);
itemsArray.clear();
if (isPlayerInventoryFull()) {
break; // Next attemps should throw a “Inventory full” warning
}
}
}[/pre]
B) Mail us with exceeding items. This would overflow current mail amount you can receive, but then they’ll be system-generated and as such would be an allowed exception. Maybe:
[pre]itemsArray = new itemArray();
for (container in containers){
for (c in container){
itemsArray = rollLoot(CONTAINER_ID);
if (isPlayerInventoryFull()) {
dispatchLootByMail(itemsArray, MAIL_ALLOWED_OVERFLOW_FLAG); // Let those mail carriers be used!
itemsArray.clear();
}
}
}[/pre]

“no one ever complained about”
um, where the heck have you been? mars? did you miss the gripe from ap hunters about dailies? how about the gripe from people saying they were too easy? the gripe that they were meaningless? the gripe that they were too much grind? yes they are very specific (again, we been here once before), but for the most part they are pretty quick. And if you don’t really care about the AP, you “can” ignore them all together (because it’s not like their individual rewards are amazing).
“does nothing yet antagonize the majority of people who have been here from the start”
This may be a bit of a stretch. Yes, there are those that don’t like it; however, from the discussions about it (in game) most people either don’t really care or “kinda like it.” The “majority” of people that have an issue with it are those on these forums. At least from what I have observed.
Yep, I too do not like the new daily format. Please bring back the old dalies!
Fair bump Shanon. I simply ignore the dailies now, as if they don’t exist anymore.
Yep, I too do not like the new daily format. Please bring back the old dalies!
Please do not. I like the new dailies a lot. Please pick your favorite between myself or Shanon.9741 and act accordingly.
Exactly what did they make them into?
If it’s mostly open world stuff I don’t see a problem. If it’s easy stuff again I don’t see a problem you see because people often forget that there are more players here than just their community. I see it all the time in MMOs all over the net it’s not the first time.
If it’s more than that I’d like to know because saying they should focus on dungeons is a naive thing to say really. You haven’t looked at the latest demographics for the PC MMO market have you? It’s obvious, here let me help you, it’s mostly casual players.
That’s right, casuals care nothing for dungeons. So if the problem is simply just a lack of dungeon focus then I’m afraid you’ll just have to get over it. And before people attack me I am a casual.
Who would have thought I would be defending one of their decisions to change something hmmm. :P
So they aren’t going to complain about now having to do a specific world boss or fractals instead of the old system which you could do without even trying??? Rightttt…..
Why would they complain? If they were doing ALL 10 rewards for 10 AP before, it’s obvious that doing ANYTHING to get them was not a barrier to those people. Now they can choose 3 of any category they want for 10 AP. It’s clearly a better deal for them.
