I don't want to WvWvW and don't want to sPVP is there just PvP?
The main purpose of PvP is to compete against other players, not run around screaming “look at me, look how cool I am!” Prestige may be a side effect of progression, but it is not the main or sole reason to play. I know, it’s a shocking concept for such a materialistic society, but that’s how it it. :p
^ What ASB said.
I sorta feel sorry for those new to Guild Wars (at least the OP isn’t knocking end game content for lack of PvE options), I think the underlying philosophy behind Guild Wars and Anet’s PvP vision is being missed by the newcomers.
They want you to be able to dive right into PvP when you log in on a fresh account, not drudgingly grind mindlessly just to get to the experience they want you to have.

Agree, but sPvP does not allow you use certain builds. (ie. race skills are disabled).

But this game is, supposedly, an MMORPG – thus making how your character looks quite an important factor.
PvP is its own reward.
You get to meet people from around the world, then smash their faces in.
I don’t mind grinding the skins man! It’s actually what keeps me playing! It’s just that they only have 1 purpose and I don’t think they are even good at doing that because of all the zergs.
I’ve never, EVER understood why people would actually want PvP to be a gear arms race – all that does is change a contest of skill into a gear check (OK, so people who aren’t terribly skilled but can put in the time to grind the gear like it). I would want to know that I beat the other guy because I’m better at playing my class, not because I had a higher average item level. PvP gear in WoW was a necessary evil, because without it the PvE progression raiders with the best gear would dominate in PvP (as we did back in the vanilla WoW days). In a game that has – hallelujah! – pretty much disposed of gear progression as a PvE endgame, you don’t need gear progression in PvP.
What I really don’tt understand, though, is why you “don’t see the point” of sPvP with the gear given to you, when you say it’s the small-scale fights that get your heart pumping. Isn’t that reward enough? Can you not do PvP just for the joy of it without loot-whoring?

Sorry, but getting end game gear is not hard. All level 80 exotics have the same stats as any other level 80 exotics! A casual gamer can get a full set rather quickly. Gear has little value to PvP in this game anyways. sPvP limits your building options compared to the real game where I can get 100 crit dmg, but in sPvP you can’t.
how is there no point to spvp, simply because you have all the tools that you need to compete?
here is a really crazy notion – prepare yourself: what if people played spvp to get better at it, and skill, instead of gear, is the only measure of success?
woah, what am i thinking? sorry about this.

In GW1 PvP also gave achievements, you could unlock more PvP skills (if you hadn’t already), runes, etc. This is sorta missing from GW2 but it is a different game in many ways.
So some do it for gear appearances, for that Trophy Log In Wall of Awesomeness…

I got this awesome armor skin that I worked really hard for and I have to show it off in WvW.. oh wait .. i’m a zerg!… Come on lets get real who actually cares what other people look like when your in a zerg? Okay put me into sPvP wheres my armor? Oh crap! I have to re earn my skin!? Seriously why would you do that?
Dur, show it off in town or in PVE, I really don’t understand what the problem is……..
Why would anyone think that someone else in PVP cares what they are wearing anyway when they just want to kill them?
Sorry but I think you bought the wrong game. :p
Whats the point if u can’t use it and PVE is to get the skin
“Whats the point if u can’t use it and PVE is to get the skin”
I don’t understand this reply…..
It is my understanding that you CAN use any weapons and armours that you get from WvW in Pve. It’s PvP gear from the PVP lobby areas that you CAN’T use in PVE areas.
Sorry my opinion on this thread failing still stands…
@Nirvash
You described how your taste in pvp differs from what the game has, but that alone isn’t helpful in getting what you want. If you really feel it’s important to show off your pve armor in pvp, not running with a zerg in wvw may help.
You could always post a picture of your armor on facebook, if showing off is the main benefit you gain from it.
Personally, I just remake my armor out of cardboard, and wear it to the grocery store.
(Also, I’m just being humorous. Not mean.)
That way while you lay there after they pommeled your face to goo .
You can at least between the swear words say they looked good doing it.

Reminds me of the movie: The Patriot. At the last battle, the french Major Jean Villeneuve comes out his tent all decked out in his finest. He them makes the comment… “If I die, I will die well dressed” And proudly walks off.
