The foundations of this game are great, but once you’ve level’d your charachter and played some PvP, there isn’t alot to do playing alone. My friends are simply logging on, and logging off when they don’t see anyone online, then when I come on I do the same. Its currently only fun in groups. Also even in groups you are rather limited to only free tournaments.

Now I know they are intending to bring out new PvP content but I fear the longer they wait the more it will hurt the game. Most of the players I know are already playing about 10% of what they where at the start.

We need an individual Rating system similar to that of HoN. Something to quantify personal ability to keep the PvP’ers happy and with a goal to work towards.

Oh, you don’t have those? Well, then there’s still stuff to do while waiting for ANet to deliver more content, which Colin said they will:

No need to buy them, Gw2 will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward. Our goal is to make it so you get more from Gw2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for.

On top of a large amount of free bonus content, we will be expanding on offerings in the Black Lion Trading Company going forward, as well as be doing large-scale expansion content down the road.

We’ll cover a lot of the details on the kind of support and plans we have in place over the next month or so on the Gw2 blog and with our press partners.

We do appreciate that you’d like to buy lots of new content, but we’d prefer to give a lot of it to you for free, cause that’s what we think a responsible MMO company does!

This happens on release of every new mmo that I’ve played the past few years and it’s kind of ridiculous. People rush to cap, get bored, blame the game for having no content. Never ending cycle. I’m more than sure they have plans but it’s not going to magically come out faster just because a minority of people rushed to cap and seemingly have nothing to do.

Slow down, enjoy it. Quit running to the end…. Is this your first MMO? This happens with ALL of them… people get in, rush to the end, skip 3/4 of the included content then complain there is nothing to do….

If a game that has been in development for 5 years doesn’t cut it. What will.

If you don’t want to farm karma, gold, dungeons or legendary weapons (that includes getting 100% world completion) then you have completed the game for now. It doesn’t matter because there is no sub, the game is build that way.

I like the little star you get for achieving 100% world completion so that’s an easy goal for now. And I still enjoy WvW and sPvP a lot.

Just imagine what this game can be in 2-3 years…

While I personally still have plenty to do, it’s worth bearing in mind that the OP seems to be a primarily PvP focused player.

PvP is a big part of this game, but sPvP is still a much smaller part of the whole than PvE/WvW at the moment, at least in terms of variety.

I believe ANet mentioned that more sPvP maps would be added after release. Guild Halls will also be added later, which leads (pooooossibly, this is speculation!) to the potential for GvG matches down the road.

I am waiting on that promised blog post myself; as much as I love all the GW2 has to offer and am no way near the end, I am always interested to know what I can look forward to later on!

To buy character slots or not to buy character slots. That is the test of my restraint.

I think an individual rating system is generally pretty lame, every game I see it in, I see the same posts about it being utterly flawed / abused.

However I do think they need some stuff in terms of the competitve PvP, team ratings / rankings would be okay and help people get better, I dont’ claim to be wonderful at PvP, but I do watch good teams sometimes on Twitch and one of the things they want is to be able to play against other good teams to get better, because they are not doing that thrashing random pug teams. The same goes for random pug / not so good teams they aren’t going to learn much playing teams so far out of their league.

They also need to add an observer mode (which I think they may have mentioned) if they want the e-sport thing to take off, though I would add people should perhaps learn a bit of patience, LoL took ages (18months?) to add an observer mode.

I just turned level 30 and have playing the game each night since release. The game is fine where it is at, gaming is suppose to be a hobby not some sort of addiction.

You and your friends obviously blew through the game way to fast, maybe you guys should do something healthy….like go outside?

If I didn’t make it clear in my original post, I got this game purely for the PvP side. They don’t really have any PvE content so there won’t be many players who bought this for that. Also I am only level 59 but bored of leveling and don’t see much incentive because I only intend to play PvP.

Its the PvP i’m focusing on, it gets really mundane really quickly. They have spent so much time developing a flawless fun combat system with unique classes but have offered so little in terms of actual arena’s and formats in which to compete in.

Tell me, how many dynamic events did you finish in your 4 small PvP maps and two WvW maps? How many renown hearts did you fill? How about skill challenges? Was in more than I did in the game’s 30 or so massive PvE maps? How many PvP dungeons have you run recently?

When people refer to PvE, or at least myself, they often mean end game content. Most MMo’s survive and thrive on their end game PvE content and thats why many users buy the game. I was attracted to Guild wars 2 because the ethos was around PvP focus with a little bit of PvE on the side.

My statement is merely saying that I don’t belive many people would buy this game for the dungeons at end game. If its the leveling process they like then its more like an RPG.

Anyway we are going offtrack. I will rephrase my initial statement;

For anyone that bought this game for the PvP (Not WvW) content, will already be getting pretty bored with the lack options available in the Hearts of the mist.

I’m not exactly asking for them to redesign the entire game, implementing such a rating system or different tournaments has to be one of the easier things to do and wouldn’t require a major content patch.

That concept is the misconception you are operating under “end game quality content” is readily available from starting lvls all the way through the cap which is something traditional MMO’s NEVER had. If you powerlevel in this game , as others have mentioned, you are missing out on quality content. This isn’t 80 levels of GRIND to get to endgame content, this is 80 levels of endgame style bliss. This is the next generation of MMO , so you should adjust your preconceptions accordingly. Have fun!! I know I am
As far as your concerns of PvP ….. honestly it is called Guild Wars 2 for a reason, Group and Guild based PvP is going to be the primary drive here, just as it was in the first one.

I am commenting on the Player vs Player lack of content for a Player vs Player focused game. I never bought this game for the leveling or dungeons, if I wanted PvE I would re-subscribe to WoW.

I’m afraid GW2 will be destroyed by MoP if ANet doesn’t act quickly and release a ‘big’ content update with a couple new features, not only new items and such.

No, I’m not a wow fanboy. I hate wow -and most of its players-
And yes, I have full exotic items, 2 level 400 crafting professions, 95% of Tyria explored and instances completed. At this state, there is nothing fun to do in the game. Dungeons are boring and pointless, so is WvWvW.

Well, keep saying that. There are ten days until MoP gets released and if ANet can’t come up with a massive content update before September 25th, this game will be forgotten. I’m no wow fan, I’ve never played it because I actually hate it.

There isn’t a ton of things to do in Guild Wars 2 currently. It is 1. get level 80 2. get exotics 3. get bored 4. quit

Because WvWvW is pointless, dungeons are boring and nobody really cares legendary items or world completion.

“But you can explore!!” Yeah, nobody cares. Gotta be realistic sometimes.

I really love this game but I can keep saying “but you can explore!!!” while I’m out of things to do.

Seriously, I’m bringing that call out to anyone who has 100% map completion and dungeon armor strapped to their character. Post your /age.

I’m willing to bet this won’t happen for two reasons:

1) It’ll prove they’ve played an unhealthy amount (it’s okay, I have too ) of a game they consider “bad”, and
2) It’ll prove that GW2 launched with several hundred hours worth of content, completely nullifying their argument that the content “isn’t there”.

i do also get out and stuff, the reason its so high is because i took some time off when it came out with like 3 hours sleep a day. so most of the hours are from the early days.

i know people are gonna say “that’s what you get for rushing and burning through content” but that’s not really the point.

a good 50 hours was spent farming karma, another 30 or 40 hours was spent farming CoF. so no it’s not about burning through the game it’s just about the sheer repetition of mundane things. need something interesting and difficult (explore dungeons aren’t hard with graveyard zerging its just a matter of bad groups = takes ages, good groups = fast)

we didn’t say it wasn’t worth $60.

and with the amount of gems i’ve bought, although using gold. i’m guessing they dont stock gems unless it was bought by another player (because they simply don’t want to just hand out their cash shop stuff). I’ve earned them something over $150.

the afk probably totals something of 30 hours btw.

Post a screenshot of your world completion and sets of dungeon armor, please.

Oh, you don’t have those? Well, then there’s still stuff to do while waiting for ANet to deliver more content, which Colin said they will:

Colin Johanson

Now for fun, post a screenshot of your /age.

http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn157/neferseki/gw2/gw011.jpg

here ya go, i know its really high, but i know a lot of those hours are from afking in town as well while just checking every half hour if something interesting is happening.

i do also get out and stuff, the reason its so high is because i took some time off when it came out with like 3 hours sleep a day. so most of the hours are from the early days.

i know people are gonna say “that’s what you get for rushing and burning through content” but that’s not really the point.

a good 50 hours was spent farming karma, another 30 or 40 hours was spent farming CoF. so no it’s not about burning through the game it’s just about the sheer repetition of mundane things. need something interesting and difficult (explore dungeons aren’t hard with graveyard zerging its just a matter of bad groups = takes ages, good groups = fast)

Dude… the game has been out for 18 days and you’ve literally played for over 12 days. According to my math, that’s averaging around 7 hours of sleep a day and then playing for every waking hour thereafter. That’s A LOT of AFKing if that’s your claim. I shudder at your electricity bill.

Honestly, it takes a lot of time and effort to make an MMORPG. It’s logistically impossible for ANet to make enough content to keep you content if you play this much.

12.75 days. Though to be fair, he might have started playing 21 days ago during the headstart.

But still, that’s over half of a person’s waking time spent on the game since release, even deducting the 30 hours or so he AFK’d. Ouch. Math hurts.

So really, after seeing all this, I think we can definitively say that GW2’s launch content has far exceeded expectations for everyone who doesn’t spend a very unhealthy amount of time on one game.

kitten hell, the game’s been out less than three weeks.

Also, there is a kitten-ton of stuff to do in the game to keep you busy.

Yes, because comparing a game that has been out less than a month to a game that has had 7 years time to develop content is relevant somehow.

People will leave and play MoP. They’ll consume that content, then come back to GW2 because by then ANet will have made more content. They’ll consume that too, then move on again to another MMO with new content.

It’s an ongoing, never ending cycle. There’s always hardcore gamers that hop from game to game because developers simply can’t keep up with the amount of free time they have. The game will live on just fine without them, those types of players were going to leave anyway.

First Pandas..LOL. Wait, you also get sudo pokemon. I can’t help but laugh at the WoW scrubs.

Second please post your dungeon sets, or even your achievements for them? Show people that you have actually done the content available before complaining there isn’t more.

Third YOU may not care, but there are those of us that actually DO care very much. I love WvW, and PvP, and exploring, and getting achievements. Sure part of it is showing off my kitten, but another part is just that this is the first game I’ve actually enjoyed exploring in.

Aside from all of that, I am curious if you have completed AC explorable yet. Most players I see complaining are only doing it because they are bad. I’m not going to say you are, but lets see the screen shot.

so you not only fastlaned through the game, but also spent 90 Dollars in 2 weeks, probably buying useful equipment other people invest a lot of time into, speeding up content crunching even more? Seriously, my sympathy is limited.

Guild Wars 2 is a really good game
But if it had raiding, it would be twice as good for me

The only end game content there really is, is WvW and sPvP

You can grind your armorsets, but its only for the sake of grinding, theres no real advantage getting them other then looks

Not everyone likes to run around all over the place watching the harvest nodes grow, alot of people, actually the majority, wants to progress their character

People are using the argument “you dont have all sets on your character” its kinda like like the “you havent completed all character stories” argument SWToR fanboys used, and that didnt end to well.

There is alot of stuff in GW2, but its alot of the same, you just choose which dungeon your going to grind today,

Both players and developers shoud get used to the idea that people will “play to get to maxlvl” fast, that wont change, and it has always been like that. The only differance is how hard it is to get there.

GW2 has alot of potential though, and i hope they are thinking about endgame aswell and come up with some nice ideas.

Theres endgame all around.

People are just formatted into a raid instance mentality .

Also. Lol at the MOP comments and doomsaying. Youre threaning GW2 against going back to gear grind, “whats your itemlvl?”/“post achiev”, and dungeon locusting.

Yeah. Think it will be fine on this end.

Quoting Terminator with a twist : “Youll be back”.

Hint : no sub fee, see ya soon.

Wasn’t part of the design of this game to get away from raiding? There’s already a sea of MMOs that deliver this for you, let’s keep GW2 something unique and pushing the genre forward. Also, you’re speaking as everybody is an achievement oriented gamer that only cares about rushing to get to end-game because “that’s where the real game starts.” Sorry but there are loads of players that are definitely not like this. most players in WoW never raided or rarely raided regularly. Hell, so few people so saw nexxramas (something like 5%?) they ended up redoing it in WotLK.

I love how people are like show me you world completion blah blah blah. Maybe some people don’t enjoy exploring just as much as some people don’t enjoy the so called gear treadmill. Why should they be forced to do something if they don’t enjoy it? Because you tell them too? ……….Please

This game is still a baby. And the amount of content it has at launch is more than enough for most of us. The ones who are complaining are the people who rushed to level cap as fast as they could.

This is true. As I said before, not everyone wants to do everything in this game.
The whole point is that some people like to do some content and some other, and that there is enough content for everything in the game.

The only thing killing the game right now for a few of us is the fact that friends and family aren’t able to get into a server with us. Content seems like there is plenty and I can’t see too much going into development when what they have in front of them still has the issues it does.

Nobody’s forcing them to do anything. If they don’t like a game absent of that stupid gear treadmill, they can go back to pandas. Doesn’t mean they should come in here whining about it and expecting ArenaNet to change a core idea the game was founded on.
