I feel horrible about what I just did
LVL1 fractals can be four-manned with minimal effort. I’ve 3-manned lvl 6 when two people left…

Yes but those were newbs. Two of them probably never did a fractal before.
Honestly, I would not be happy if I were in their situation now.

Once the boss had only 20% life left, obviously, all my team was kicked from the dungeon and returned to Lion Arch.
Obviously? I lose track of your point here. Obviously you were kicked? How is this obvious? The rest doesn’t make much more sense, either. Where are you going with this?

I’m sure they were fine. It’s really not that hard. You kinda did a jerk move, but I doubt they were any worse for wear from it. Someone had to figure these things out at some point originally…
I love when players like this expose themselves so I can add them to my block list

Well, I meant OBVIOUSLY, as fractals are only @!!!zscz kitten this had to happen…
And for the others, I feel horrible but not gulty, it’s not my fault if they can’t replace me…

I’m sure he was making reference to the fact that the fractals have connection and continuation issues. It’s an overreaction, but loosely based in fact.
The game bugged; it happens. But you CHOSE to leave them. It wasn’t the game it was you. Just as those other people CHOSE not to continue with you to help you get that last bit of achievement. You could have stayed and helped them finish it off but were tired or simply disliked fractals too much to want to stay longer. But just remember it was your CHOICE to leave them. You can deny it all you want but then why do you feel guilty about it?

I never said I wanted to be the good guy. And as I said, this kind of things wouldn’t happen if Arenanet wasn’t so lazy. WHY do we have to grind fractals? WHY can’t my team recruit another player to replace me?? WHY do such glitchs happen during a boss???

So you were kicked then (however discreetly). But you got back together with the same group and did some more fractals, and they counted towards your monthly achievement? Even though they kicked you for mysterious, non-obvious reasons?
Well, I suppose it’s a good story of fallout and redemption, but I still have no idea what your point is..
:)

No, he was saying the fractal crashed and booted them all back to LA.

1) Fractals are not a grind. They’re probably the most fun game content I’ve seen across the whole game thusfar. Very balanced, require real strategy instead of just stupidly huge healthpools, etc.
2) The loot from fractals is substantial. You’d have been better off just finishing the lvl1 run and getting more gold out of the deal.
The game is imperfect just as the people who made it are. That’s being human all they can do is try and fix it maybe the next patch will do just that. But stop trying to shift the blame for the CHOICE you made. That’s all you. Own up to it. You left them. Big whoop. Like plenty of others haven’t done that before. You’re human. You get tired, you get lazy, you get bored or frustrated. That’s being human. So you left them. Just remember that was your choice not some kinda bug that exists within you to do that on occasion like this game can on occasion do. So own up to your choices, learn from it, and move on.

You missed my point. So let’s explain again. I did a serie of 3 fractals… but got kicked on the boss of the third, so I got only 2 for my achievement. Then I did a serie of 4, without any problem this time, and I had 6/7 for my achievement.
And then, you know the rest… My point is, without this glitch, I’d have 7/7 and no bad story…
lol…so a game made you be a jerk to other people? Why stop at blaming the game? Why not your parents, teachers, or even the government?
Why can’t people take responsibility for their own actions any more?
Your point is that the game screwed up so you screwed other players to get what you wanted without a care for anything that they may have wanted. Good job. Point well received.

If you read again you can notice that they have lost one fractal… just like me. Somekind of bad justice, yea, but I didn’t kill anyone…
Whatever…you don’t need to kill someone to be a jerk. And then to come to the boards and brag about your bad behavior while trying to blame a game for your actions is just pathetic. Have a nice life.

I agree with most of this post, save one thing. The very first sentence.
“Fractals are not a grind.”
Yes, they are. Being obligated to repeat the same content over and over in the hopes of obtaining specific rewards is the textbook definition of MMO grind. And Fractals is a grind in two respects:
1) You are grinding it daily for the chance at free Ascended drops
2) You are grinding it to obtain Fractal Relics, which you then trade in for Ascended drops.
In both cases, you are grinding Fractals repeatedly for the sake of obtaining Ascended gear. That is a grind.
I agree with you that it’s fun, but being fun and being a grind are two different things and they are perfectly capable of co-existing.
In fact it’s fair to argue that every dungeon in GW2 is a grind. I seem to recall that the original design plan for dungeons was “run dungeon once, get a token that you trade in for one piece of equipment”, yet for some reason they decided to turn this into “run dungeon once, get a handful of tokens that don’t buy you anything unless you run the dungeon 20 more times to get enough for one piece of gear”.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

The fractals change and tactics have to change as you progress. If it was the same thing every day, it’d be one thing, but it’s not. At lvl 19, several of the fractals have gone through 3-4 transformations of how the levels have to be played. Mobs and bosses get different abilities, Agony is added into the mix, etc.
Raiding in WoW is a grind. This is far from it.

Well personnally I don’t find those fun ; once, twice, okay, the third time, myay, but then the perspective of making more fractals to get my kitten monthly reward destroys my mind and I have a proof ; I left the dungeon and my mates.
I dunno what’s fun in taking 10 minutes to kill a single mob like the Ettin or the Jellyfish….

The jellyfish takes hardly any time to kill if you do the actual strategy for the bossfight. If you drag it to the electrified cages every time, it’s down in a couple minutes tops.
And what Ettin are you talking about?

He’s just a standard issue champion Ettin…

Agony is a broken mechanic that honestly shouldn’t exist. It’s part of that same flawed mentality that spawned the “difficulty” in the original dungeons of GW2: to make more difficult, just add more OHKOs and cheap shots. And Agony only encourages you to grind the Fractals even further to obtain Agony resistance so that you can grind the Fractals even further. It’s a self-repeating cycle of bad design.
I don’t disagree with the rest, though. Having monsters gain new abilities with higher levels does make things more interesting and fun.
And no, it’s still a grind. You’re still repeating the same content over and over, even if it’s in a different order. I’d agree that it’s less of a grind than WoW raiding in concept, but it’s still a grind.
Fun, but also a grind.

Something being a Grind is probably more of a state of mind. If you’re grinding, you’re hating it. “Back to the grind.” If you are loving it….it’s not a grind. So we’re both right…heh.
Also, I love the idea of Agony and its resistance. Same thing goes here. You hate it…lots of people love it and the fact that they get cool new gear to deal with it.
It’s not like the idea of Agony is new anyway. GW1 had agony and you used infusions to counteract it. They didn’t just “invent” the stuff and throw it into the game.
If you feel the monthly reward is worth doing the tasks, then do them! If you don’t, then don’t do them. What’s the big deal? I honestly don’t know if I’ve completed a monthly yet – I just don’t pay attention to them.

You’d know. You get 10 jugs of liquid karma (40k Karma) and 20 mystic coins.

Meh – I’ve got most of the gear I want, and could buy my legendary if I wanted to. I’d rather craft it myself though! Don’t really have a use for karma or coins.
So, here is my story. I wanted to do my monthlies to get the mystic coins… But some dev had the great idea to put fractals as a requirement to make me grind a few hours… I hate fractals, but I wanted my reward. So, well, let’s go!
I made a team for level 2. It was hard and glitchy, as I was with some people from US servers and we noticed quite fast that we can’t play together… So, well, I had to recruit other peoples…
After 30 minutes of recruiting, here I was. We rushed the fractals, and 40 minutes later we were killing the boss of the third fractal.
Once the boss had only 20% life left, all my team was kicked from the dungeon and returned to Lion Arch. Our reaction: WTF.
(If you follow me, I have 2/7 of my achievement.)
So we didn’t stop there we did it again, we grinded 3 more fractals and we had the special fourth one. This time, no bug.
(Now I have 6/7 of my achievement.)
So no one wanted to stay so they all left. 6/7, seriously, what am I gonna do? I don’t want to grind 3 more fractals.
Well, I did something very simple. I made a lvl 1 fractal team, we bashed the first fractal, I left. Achievement done.
See now why I feel horrible?
But is it really my fault? I mean, first you invent fractals to push us to grind, then you force us to do those, and then “bad luck” kicks me from the dungeon when the final boss is about to die? No way.
Just this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=6ky6OysXs_I#t=102s
Now you should help a newbies lv1 group trough all of that FotM.
If you just need 1 fractal level, you should mention that up front – there are probably other players in the same situation, but going along with a group like that is pretty close to just leeching as the assumption is that people are there to complete the full fractal.
Just another reason not to run them imo. It’s not your fault OP it’s the game design, it’s a system that should not be part of the monthly and should not be forced on the players who bought this title because we were interested in metas in the open world only. I didn’t want to do any of the dungeons in the game because I read prelaunch they would be focusing on meta events and adding those to the game would go faster and be better then any dungeon content they could come out with. Then 3 months later bam fractals and no only was it a 180 they made things worse by adding another tier of armor with higher stats.
I’ll be glad when they restore the horizontal progression that’s what was right about this title before all this mess happened….and horizontal progression does mean buying ascended from karma vendors, and the restoration of the open world loot. That’s the only thing that will bring people back permanently.
I can’t believe someone is crying about grinding fractals just a few days into the start of monthly achievements.
No one is forcing you to grind 7 fractals in a day. You know there are 31 days in this month? And you could spread out those fractals? Maybe once or twice a week?
I can’t wait until you decide to pursue your legendary, and then whine how you need to get 500 dungeon tokens, or 500 badges of honor, but don’t mind grinding out all the lodestones and gambling for a precursor.
Then again, there’s already a thread that is whining about the badges.

Tough luck if it’s tied to your monthly. No one is forcing you to do your monthly.
I just find it hilarious that people are complaining about 7 fractals.
SEVEN!
Maybe if it was 30, I’d understand.
BUT SEVEN!

(edited by Keiran.1896)
The problem is the monthly achievement. GW2 is a game about playing “your way” in words, but not in-game. It really makes no sense to force people to dungeons or WvW for something as generic as a monthly achievement.

A monthly achieve is going to “require” you to do something… Just like ALL achievements.
GW2 itself requires you to do things all the times. It has more variance in its requirements, but at the end of the day, it still requires….

People are not forced to do monthlies. While the devs can set monthlies up to be anything they want, it might be better if they varied ALL of the monthly achievements, not just the non-fractal, non-WvW ones. This would give people who don’t want to play these aspects of the game a chance at getting the achievements from time to time without having to bite a kitten bullet.
But is it really my fault?
Yes. It was your decision to make, and you made it. Learn to live with the consequences to your conscience or change your behavior. Don’t expect us to pat you on the back and say, “It’s ok, anybody would have done the same”.
I looked at the monthly achievements, saw they included Fractals which I didn’t feel ready for or motivated to do yet, and decided not to do it.
It’s not like the idea of Agony is new anyway. GW1 had agony and you used infusions to counteract it. They didn’t just “invent” the stuff and throw it into the game.
Yes, and it was unpopular in GW1, too.
Mainly because when it was implemented in Prophecies, originally you had to infuse each piece of armor separately. This made it rather obnoxious to get an entire set of armor infused, which convinced them to change infusion’s function. The end result is that they changed the mechanic from individual armor pieces into a one-time thing, mere months after the game’s release.
Sound familiar? Yeah, that’s right. They took the broken version of Agony from GW1 and applied it to GW2. Except they made it even harder to obtain Agony resistance in this game than in the previous game.
This is like accidentally putting your finger on a hot stove and burning it, and responding to this by putting your entire hand on the stove just to see if you get burned again. And guess what? Bad word of mouth throughout the month of November likely burned them pretty bad, bad enough that they’ve admitted publicly that the implementation of this content was extremely poor and that they’re going to work on it.
If they want to implement Agony again, that’s okay. I don’t like the mechanic myself, but I’ll live with it. However, the way in which they implemented it is even worse than it was in GW1. They have some serious work to do here.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
Whatever…you don’t need to kill someone to be a jerk. And then to come to the boards and brag about your bad behavior while trying to blame a game for your actions is just pathetic. Have a nice life.
What school play ground did you learn that childish statement from?
Pathetic is made by those that can only make meaningless negative statments, This does the OP a big favour by bumping it higher up the forum list for more to see and comment, what is it most dont get? don’t like something then simply move on…. if you have nothing good to say then don’t say anything at all!!! just move on to the next read you do like!! simples :))
EO.
You are a troll or an extremely selfish person. I hate to think how your thought process translates into important real life situations instead of just a game.
Don’t feel bad -just don’t be selfish and blame someone/somthing else for your behavior.

Exactly my thoughts. If the game is supposed to be non dungeon focused, the opposite of WoW then why not add 10 events to it? or 8 meta events like the dragons? Or 1 event per certain level of zone? Why does it HAVE to be the fractals? And that’s beside the point that this game was never meant to be focused on dungeons.
It’s just as bad as having us go to the grief ridden WvW to try to complete that map while people are allowed to spam siege engines to prevent people from completing it. But we’re not being forced to finish 100% of the map either right? it’s only a requirement for legendaries that’s not being forced or anything.
not all of us play pvp or like it but we sure are forced to be in that situation with the way the map is setup.
how about being up front and honest about it before going in to the fractal
@OP I don’t entirely blame you. You want the achievement but because this dungeon is so bad, many players consider doing minimal effort in getting their rewards. If you felt that you are enjoying this part of the game then I’m certain you would have stayed untill the end.
