I found the Next champion of Kralkatorrik!
Logged in just to say that this is hilarious.
I knew Someone who was over the age of 35 or had an awesome childhood (or both) would get the joke
“Chaaaamberlaaaain….. LAY DOWN MY SCEPTER… RAAAAWWWRRRRR”
Trial by stone?
What got me thinking about it was everything that is corrupted by the crystal dragon is the same shade of purple!

It is safe to admit it Anet all it would do is make the brand that much cooler.

The Dark Crystal was a Jim Henson Studios (the Muppet guys) film in the early ‘80s, directed by Frank Oz (a.k.a. Yoda, Miss Piggy & Fozzie Bear). Even though it showed poorly in the box office, it became a cult classic on VHS and later DVD. It’s still considered one of the greatest triumphs of Practical Effects of the era, an entire elaborate fantasy world full of beautifully detailed puppets. It’s also creepy as hell. Those puppets can be split evenly between Deliberately Monstrous and Just Human Enough to drag us screaming into the Uncanny Valley. The critter in the first post haunted my nightmares all through childhood.
The plot revolves around two races of linked immortals who once fractured the Great Crystal that was the central empowering artifact of their civilization, and the efforts of the last two surviving members of a lesser mortal species to restore that Crystal, and defeat the faction of immortals who tried to eradicate their race. Kralkatorrik’s domain suggests some influence from the film, not just in the use of glowing purple crystals, but in how the twisted blackened landscape is reminiscent of the warped Crystal Castle.

Oh man, If only.
Ill narrow the if only a slight bit further if only we could get the Skeksis swords in game now that would be awesome imagine dual wielding these bad boys
the black rock and the elder dragons would stand zero chance.
not just in the use of glowing purple crystals, but in how the twisted blackened landscape is reminiscent of the warped Crystal Castle.
Not Just the Glowing purple crystles or the castle but the Landscape around the castle has a seeming influence on the brand as well the result of the Skeksis stealing life force from the surrounding lin order to try to stay alive just ever so slightly longer (Lthe lighning effect on the ground surrounding the castle
for those who dont know you can get a good look at it in this short clip

That’s a surprisingly informative website for a 30 year old movie. Huh… so much for the productive part of my afternoon.
Also, according to their timeline, the Chief Mystic actually deliberately willed himself to die in order to kill his counterpart, the Skeksis Emperor, and throw the other Skeksis into chaos before the Great Conjunction. I’d always interpreted it the other way around, that the Emperor wrecked himself up through decadent living and possibly being poisoned by a rival, and dragged the Chief Mystic’s health down with him. This spirit assassin model of the story is superior in every respect, though!

the site is a brilliant move by the Henson Company the want to relase a series of novels based on the universe was set in. and being such a old fantasy world with a Still active fan base (30 Years is a long time when it comes to fans imaginations) they decided to lay a ground work for Lore and Run a contest looking for the next writer for there book.
A net seems to take a similar approach to some of its mysteries as well (cough wizards tower cough) that anything that the fans dreamed up is probably more exciting than any “offishal” lore they could dream up and in fact the Offish lore couls even possibly be a let down.
<stuff> This spirit assassin model of the story is superior in every respect, though!
Woa woa….Spirit Assassin? That is the new class for GW2 if ever they release one. Sort of a ritualist meets necro meets assassin. Stealing souls, ripping energy, very ghostly animations…oh man…
Incidentally, The Dark Crystal was one of my favorite movies of my childhood. Creeped me out, but looked so great.
