Here is the story: I was doing the renowned heart on a small island in bloodtide coast that requires to kill ambient ravens and rats. When i got there i saw a lot of people grouped together running around. I didnt pay attention since i wanted o do the task. When i started killing ravens a lot of people kept whispering that i am stupid, i should stop killing the ravens and gtfo etc. But things turned really ugly when i killed the candy elementals in 1 hit by accident. I was by a swarm of ravens and the second i swung the sword they turned to candy elementals and i killed them instantly. I felt the hate inside my blood as people started hating, flaming and calling me out like i was doing something illegal( the irony). So i went there with an alt to get the waypoint and saw a group again bitting eachothers heads off, flaming eachother and going crazy in general. There was also a a two man low level group killing ravens, probably to do the task. I cant imagine how much hate he would have gotten from whispers.

The point is, since Anet doesnt seem to like farming like this (RIP queensdale train) they should do something about it since new people who go there will probably get verbaly abused by the people there. It is like Queensdale all over again where people where flaming if a champ died earlier before everyone got there.

just make screenshots report them for verbal abuse and block them. you did not do anything wrong and this kind of people deserve to be blocked!

I also was on that little island (a few weeks ago) and killed some critters before I realized that I was interfering with others players that were already playing a game there.

Because I did not wanted to interrupt them, a little “sry, dont’t know” did the magic and everybody still was friendly.

There is no excuse for insults and every player should respect the playstyle of other players.

That means (for me) that the farmers there should not insult others and that means that others should not try to troll or provoke/disrupt the candycorn farmers on that little remote island.

Just let them know you needed the heart quest, get it done and get out of there. Why they are mad easy? Because ppl grief and troll them a lot.

And OP, anet hates all kind of farming in game, because it hurts their gemstore. If every1 could easily farm their way to thousands of gold and just convert gold to gem for spending on gemstore, Anet would not make any money.

Silverwaste chest train is just what you so called as ‘toxic’, same like FG (ppl breaking train rage), same like CS, Queensdale, etc whatever farming you can think of in this game.

As a self-confessed shovel hoarder with 294 shovels gathered and not a one used to date, I can say that linking those in chat brings out the real evil ones in SW

I ran across this a few months or so back. Same thing, map clearing and leveling an alt. I didn’t know what they were doing, so I asked one of them, and they never responded.

I asked out here, and some people responded explaining what they were doing. So I alt-tabbed back and finished up the heart on the little island staying away from where they were playing. Never did hear back from the person I asked in game about it, but they never harassed me nor I them.

No point of my post other than to document a different experience where everyone got out OK.

If people are harassing those legitimately doing that heart, and killing those ambients is part of that heart, then they might find those ambients taken away from them and the heart objective changed. ANet has done things like that before. By acting like that they are endangering their own farm.

It’s not the farming, but the behaviour of both sides. I remember in Queensdale not only the people flaming if a boss got killed, but also people deliberatly killing bosses with the soul purpose of destroying the train. Personally I was always fine with people killing a champ. It is a newbe map and those things happen. But if people do it, just to annoy that is just as bad.

This group of people got actually haunted out of rata sum allready by a fix.
my advice:
- Do not go into debate
- /report players for verbal abuse ingame
- make screenshots and sent in a support ticket
- Do your heart in anyway you want to do it, ignore them. Once done, move along. Some tips: if you put yourself on offline, you can’t get pm’s. If you also disable map and local chat, all they can do is sent emails. Misusing that system for flaming purposes will only get them banned quicker.

Arenanet devs: instead of solving this issue locally, maybe change the way vial of maize balm works. The idea was fun and nice, but sadly some part of the community can’t handle this in a responsable way.

Maybe, if this is really needed for economic purposes (which I doubt), put some ambients inside the home instances, and make it only work there.

unfortunately the Candy Corners believe they have a god given right to claim anywhere they like as their own and abuse those that don’t conform.

That beach is actually a very good spot to get your ambient kill and weapon achievements done as well as the obvious heart quest.
I would love to see players jump over to it and start weapon kill collecting, but take some fire proof underpants and play music.. loudly, cos they will try to abuse you as hard as possible in order to protect their claim… if that happens take some screenies and report the offenders.

TBH I tend to pick a small cluster off to the side of the candy muppets and keep myself to myself.. but then at some point they just cant resist any longer and start flaming, hurling abuse and then trolling the ambient’s I am killing in my little cluster.. so alI I do it swap to my (if I am not already on it) and go about placing as many turrets around the respawn points until they learn the error of their ways.

Bottom line is ANET implemented weapon kill achievs, they implemented ambient kill achievs and they placed heart quests around the maps.. maze balm monkeys have to learn they don’t own maps and their “everyone report that player for killing crows” will likely only result in themselves being banned for abusing the reporting system.

Too bad the devs decided to take out loot drops from personal instances. There are a few PStory legs where this ToT bag farm would be very convenient and keep the obnoxiously self-entitled variety of ToT farmers out of general circulation where they belong.

Just take your charcter with the highest DPS and kill as many as you can asfast as possible. its open world PvE and you can do as you please. If people are DIRECTING verbally offensive or abusive language TOWARDS YOU they can and will be banned.

Lets not let a few ruin it for everyone….i have 125 balms that i havent used yet, that i plan on using at some point. I agree with culling the ambients slightly. They might help the games ambiance but theres no need for 10+ frogs in a small area…nerfing the respawn times alone would help as well.

Farming in the open world has always brought about toxic chat, such as Queensdale Champ Train, and the Coil “Fail the Event on purpose” Train in Frostgorge Sound. Mainly because everyone claims “entitlement” to the mobs. Luckily these two examples got dealt with.

I think the best way to resolve this Maize Balm farming issue is to simply add a few ambient creatures in home instances, and make the bags only work in your home instance. Thus, only party members can take away your creatures, so it would be controlled.

People trying to do weapon master will also have their own place to go too.

I can’t disagree with the OP: some balm farmers get so focused on their own concerns that they lash out at anyone that might slow them down for even a little while.

ANet’s usual solution when dealing with toxic farming has been to increase the time between farms or eliminate the farm entirely. But the current crop of farmers won’t care in the meantime.

So, until that happens, report anyone who is verbally abusive (including, but not limited to personal attacks). My hope is that ANet will set an example by punishing the worst abusers, thus encouraging everyone else to play more cooperatively with the entire map, and, I hope, decreasing the need to nerf existing farms.

This farm makes completing an already-time-consuming heart even more time consuming. Killing the ambients is a specific part of the heart. Any time you are breaking standard world content (hearts, events etc.) for personal gain, you are breaking the ability for others to play the game.

You guys want others to move aside and let you do what you want. But on the other hand, you will not give them the same courtesy. Think about it.

Interesting. I ran into one guy doing the farming there recently and (as a new player, not knowing what was going on), killed some elementals and it was quite an unpleasant experience (the only one I had so far).

In open pve world is one thing really annoying. When other players are rushing through enemies and handover their mobs to you, just because you are fighting one mob nearby and suddenly you have 4 more mobs on you. If you’re downed because of that, these players don’t even think about to help you or revive you. They are just standing there. No thank you, when I see such behavior I break the fight and run away, they should keep their enemies.

The QDale champ train would still be with us if some players had not acted like entitled little sods and instead kept their chat closed. If the Balm farmers cannot learn from this, and if reports increase, then sayonara Balm Farm.

The rats, which have green names and are thus not affected by the Maize Balm, are required as well. Heck, the rats can’t even be killed by weapons, you have to press F to ‘Exterminate’ them. Maize Balm doesn’t affect green named friendlies (source: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Throw_Maize_Balm), so it’s in your best interest to avoid the crows and go after the rats instead to avoid knocking heads.

Yes they are all over Tyria for sure, but there are only a few profitable areas that have a large enough pool of fast respawning clusters where 1 balm can induce 30+ ToT bags every few seconds when the masses are in the mood.. which from experience is all the time. Certain spots are a 24/7/365 farm and its out of control which is why toxicity is on the increase once more.

Personally I think the best course of action here is just report the bad ones. That doesn’t mean go antagonizing people and getting them worked up just so you can report them. It means if you’re playing and people start to lash out at you for playing the game the way it was meant to be, then don’t hesitate to use the report button.

The fewer toxic players allowed to continue being toxic to the community, the better the game is for everyone else. It also avoids the issue of punishing people who are not being hateful and are willing to share and be good sports.

Ooh sounds like a good place to go whenever a new world peace event in wvw occurs. kill ravens and fuel the rage! Kinda miss killing random champions in queensdale to get raged at.

Or, you could just be nice. Finish your heart and move on. Or switch to a beginner type weapon so that you don’t kill elementals in one swing — it will still kill the ambients in one go. Or do anything that would be considerate to the other players that are playing there. You CAN take care of your own needs and still be sensitive to the needs of others if you give half a care to try.

If something is toxic then a forum discussing it is at least 10X as toxic. Look at the unofficial WvW matchup forums. The official WvW forums were shut down because they were so toxic they didn’t want the hassle of monitoring them.

After weeks of the same IoJ, SoR, AR matchup the trolls finally ran out of steam but with GoM replacing SoR as fresh blood this week things are rolling again.

If the MB-farmers would PM something like:

“Hey mate. I think you are trying to do the heart. We actually farming here and need those crows alive for it. You can do the heart much quicker by pressing f next to rats. then it doesn’t interfere with our farm either. So what bout helping us and keep those crows alive?? thanks a lot!”

If someone still persist in killing the crows…well it is a free world. So let them!

The heart quest is a mere distraction event and actually the rats and crows both add to getting it done quickly.. there are far more crows than rats that spawn thus players have every right to kill them.
However that event is over in a matter of minutes.. weapon achievs, ambient killer achiev and slayer achievs are a different story.
That particular place is ideal for doing all 3 at once which is why I use it.. I set myself away from the maze muppets and farm a single cluster of 3-5 crows whilst comforting the quaggan to spawn the ridge scales.. killing all with whatever weapon I am looking to score with… but – the farmers cant share, they hurl abuse and in turn mess their own farm up spending more time trolling 1 person sticking to a very small cluster of that island.. so in turn they loose other spawn spots as I set turrets up and insta kill the corns… but ty for the ambient kills along with a few extra ToT bags..

Lesson to the farmers.. you don’t own the map space so learn to share .. ANET implemented all the different achievement/quest facets and also the maze balm – maybe they lacked the ability to foresee the issues that things like maze balm would create, but its done so get used to sharing the space or go elsewhere.. simples!

Just went over there to check, threw some balms and what do you know. Nothing but people camped trolling because of OP’s original Q_Q post.

This right here. My husband went and did this heart yesterday, there were people farming, he did the heart. He didn’t bother them and they didn’t get in his way either. Heart done quickly without issue.

The density of ambients or their respawn rate isnt’ the problem. It’s the people on both sides who think their way is the only right way and they go out of their way to try and ruin it for the other side.

You can do the heart easily without bothering maize farmers and you can farm with your maize without bothering those doing the heart. The key here is respecting each other and their space. The times I’ve been on that island the maize farmers aren’t using the entire island and there are plenty of critters left to do the heart with.

I miss the QD champ train

The hilarious thing is that Bloodtide isn’t the best place by far to do the maize farm, there’s 5 or 6 other places that are almost free of casual traffic and respawn much faster at a perfect timed interval.

These guys in Bloodtide are noobs who probably do it just for the chance to rage at people.

As for the legitimacy of maize farming:

Seen them all running around there myself, usually wearing no armour, I just laugh at them.

But yeah Anet should do something about it as they disrupt players that are trying to do the heart.

I think that this may have been fixed already. Previously I remember this heart being fairly tedious because of the low number and spawn rate of the target mobs. I went there with a character that did not have the heart yet. And there were many more (green) rats than crows. They were present in large enough numbers that I was never waiting for respawn. Even though I didn’t see anyone farming, I exterminated rats, only killing crows if they were grouped in or near the rats. I did not kill crows in groups, only if they were fairly isolated and near rats. And even limiting myself in that way, I had the heart in maybe 2 minutes. I bothered no one, and no one bothered me. Crows and rats were present in large numbers(though many more rats than crows) and there were numerous sick quaggan(s?) to comfort. From what I just experienced, this heart is much easier than it was when I did it with my main. And I can’t see anyone having a problem here unless people are deliberately trying to make trouble. I think if you go to do the heart and are respectful you should be okay unless there are troublemakers there who need to be reported. And if you go there to farm, and are respectful, you shouldn’t have a problem either.(Once again, unless there are people just trying to cause trouble, and that’s reportable.)

I think I have a lowbie guardian that likes to abuse her staff auto attack that also hasn’t done bloodtide map complete yet.
