I hate spirit shards
It was a nerf aimed at slowing down progression. Yes, it feels very slow now. SW is the fastest way (which is awful). At the rate it piles up right now, without doing SW chest run, it’s not worth spending your spirit shard recklessly.
Wait you don’t get it from level up ? I didn’t notice lol. I have too many anyways xD

atm you get nothing from level up. at future you train your masteries
I dont mind farming Silverwaste, but it feels like its the ONLY way to get shards now
I think I have only seen one drop from the SW. A couple times I have had it drop from the krait at the lab while waiting for Teq but that is it.
They really nerfed them when they changed from skill points. Teq used to give 3-pt scrolls practically all the time. They took away those scrolls from his loot but did not replace them with shards.
It seems to me that this post is about a spending issue, not an acquisition problem. Most people have too many spirit shards; only a tiny fraction spend spirit shards regularly.
This entire spirit shard being different from hero point situation is awful.
Did you mean the “separation” or the fact that gaining experience after L80 no longer generates them? Separating has had no impact, other than making sure that everyone has enough points to max out their core specializations just by reaching L80.
I cant take it anymore.
So, don’t take it.
People like me, that use tons of spirit shards (SKILL POINTS) are suffering beyond belief from this.
You are right: I don’t believe it. Of all the things that have changed in the last 3 years, this is one of the least impactful changes.
Theres no point in getting these from the maps anymore, and gaining levels feels absolutely pointless at 80.
You mean there’s no point doing hero challenges — that’s because HoT isn’t out yet. When it launches, people will wish there were more such challenges.
can we ATLEAST get the spirit shards from gaining levels?
Post-HoT, we can expect different sources of shards plus post L80 experience will go into masteries.

It’s not the only way. Dailies, PvP, and other methods already exist.

people that have a lot of spirit shards dont craft, which is ok, but I do. Some of us, people who actually play all their classes and have multiple toons, use spirit shards. I have 14, with 3 deleted, all in full ascended gear with ascended weapons.
Not even counting ascended, making a legendary, and the clovers, and upgrading mats, takes a tremendous amount of shards. Im currently on my 8th legendary and all I need, as always, is shards.
Now I get it, you probably have no gold and play casually, so I understand. I get it, you dont care. But for me, and my guild, we made tons of mystic weapons/ascended gear/mat upgrades, which we cant do anymore. I dont even care about that, because I already have 99% of the things I need, but for other people its a shame. I have a guildie trying to make a legendary and he hates silverwaste, but theres really no other way to get the shards and thats silly.
On the other hand I know people that hanve 4k shards, and these same people have never used one, ever. They dont even know who Miyani is and rarely use the forge.
Only activity I make more spirit shards than I do gold is trading post flipping.
Even dungeons, fractals, world events, you’ll be making more spirit shards as you do gold. Every events give champ bag, and the rates is about once per seven bag.
If you are really rich in gold, you might as well buy legendary instead of using your spirit shards.

and?
you get also angry about people that have much gold in their pocket cause they never spend it on ( expensive skin) stuff?
and over 4k shards isnt really casual

I would gladly sell my shards if the game allowed. People like me are drowning in unwanted shards (over 3000) and people like the OP are scraping for each one they get. If this was a real economy I could sell my glut to their famine and we both would be happy.
ANet may give it to you.

Actually, you’d be incorrect. I have plenty of gold and I play seriously. I just don’t feel the need to spend spirit shards at the rate you do. And just to be clear: I do promotions, make mystic weapons, give gifts to people, and use them for all sorts of things.
I get it, you dont care.
Again, you’re misinformed about my thinking. I do care; I just don’t agree with you that it’s an issue for the game.

I suspect that ANet probably intended to make it harder to make tons of such things. It’s still easy enough to make some.

There are other ways to get shards. More importantly, shards accumulate on their own — we just can no longer farm them so easily that they can be spent without considering what we really want to do with them.
Shards are only used for long-term goals: legendaries, mystic forge weapons, forge promotions, etc. Accordingly, ANet changed the system so they accumulate in a way more in line with those priorities. Those that played a lot of characters prior to the split have an excess; those just starting will need to be more patient.
In my opinion, that’s better for the game in the long run.
I farmed a bunch of spirit shards before the patch.
The reality is many people are rich in gold. Either because they flip TP, sell dungeon runs, toss maize balm around. But those activities don’t generate spirit shards.
I become rich because I did some good TP investments. I think many people are similar to me. That’s why they are short on spirit shards. My guess if you are really rich in gold, you might as place a buy order on legendary.

So far, from my personal experience and my guilds which is only a tiny testing sample, we have decided we get 1 shard per 15 bags on average. I open my bags every 2500 and it seems to be the sample size for us, but if its closer to 1 in 7 that would be amazing

I can agree to this. I bought twilight

i’m sitting on around 2k+ spirit shards and have nothing useful left to do with them.
Spent about 400 last week. Back up to 200. Only thing I do is sPvP and gather.
I get 3 shards every day via the daily. That’s more than I got playing daily via leveling beyond 80 before the change.
While I can see players who play for hours upon hours but not a lot of days would hate the change it’s been positive for me.
RIP City of Heroes
I had no idea how you could run out of Spirit Shards, then I read you tooled out 14 characters in Ascended stuff. Its like complaining you have no money after buying all the cars.
Proper resource management fail.
Seriously? If your struggling to gain spirit shards there’s issues how you play the game to get them… I mean they drop more frequently compared to previous skill points.
I struggled to keep a good upkeep on skill points for legendary. Now with spirit shards I can get thay much of them with such little effort I’m actually finding I have hundreds spare between legendary crafting
You get 3 for doing the regular daily. Five if you do the PvP daily (the 3, one more as a PvP reward and a Tome that can give a level 80 a shard). Then any that drop from regular play. 3 to 5 daily isn’t that bad. I know I didn’t level 3 to 5 times each day before this.
ANet may give it to you.
I wish I had something actually meaningful to spend them on
1. Mats conversions – been there / done that out o mats to convert
2. Legendaries – been there / done that – still feeling kinda sickened by the PVE grind and idiotic jumping puzzles of the one I did and absolutely not going for any others. Just so not worth it.
3. Mist skins (like the anomaly) – been there / done that on multiple toons + sales on TP
Need something else that can benefit my characters or convert to gold.
OP I think you are treating them like they were a regular source of income. Which they might have been, but now they are a much rarer material.
You will simply need to find new ways to make money.

I felt the same way, so I started doing the content that I know rewards spirit shards:
Daily + any daily that rewards tomes or writs
PvP: at least do the dailies for reward track tomes
Fractals: you can buy spirit shards with relics
Leveling and story: I didn’t keep count but I am sure I saw a surge in spirit shards while leveling and doing personal story on two alts
I did not farm the Silverwastes. I did not do anything that I didn’t find fun. Since the June update (I crafted a legendary around that time and was down to 0), I have received 600 or more spirit shards doing these things. I had enough to craft a legendary and change stats on two sets of ascended armor and weapons and still have some left over. When you’re counting each one it feels so slow, but it really does not take long to get there.
This slowed progression is good in my opinion. We are encouraged to use account bound currencies carefully and for ourselves, not for making more gold. Hopefully over time it will make spirit shards and mystic forge weapons more valuable. It’s kind of sad that mystic forge weapons are barely selling at the cost of making them.
