I really hate to do this, as there as been way too much talk of this already but… people in mapchat and I have read on this site that we all would be getting an extra character slot because of the preorder pricing thing.

If this is true, I had not received one but my wife thinks she did, as she now had 2 of them.

Does everyone get one, or…?

For our long-standing fans and loyal players, we would like to say thank you and show our appreciation. For all players who registered the core Guild Wars 2® game prior to January 23, 2015 and who upgrade their account by prepurchasing and registering any Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns edition before Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns‘ launch, we will add one additional character slot to your Guild Wars 2 account. The process of delivering your additional character slot will take us some time, but rest assured we will get it to you as soon as possible. We’ll provide more details about the specific timing soon.

Also don’t confuse the beta slot with an extra permanent character slot.

Since they have not announced they have sent them out yet like they stated in the post I linked it is hard to say. Perhaps they started sending them out in waves like they have other items in the past and have not announced it. My suggestion is to be patient and wait for an announcment before you get worried about receiving your slot.

Well, I got mine straight away, plus another one for beta use. But I literally pre-ordered the very instant the popup appeared while I was playing, so I may well just have beaten the rush, and maybe things got a bit slower later when there was an influx of people pre-ordering. So I suspect timing may play a small part in this.

What edition did you buy? The only editions that included the character slot when the pre-order was first released were the Deluxe and Ultimate.

Ultimate. But I thought all editions were getting a character slot? Does everyone who ordered the regular edition have to wait for theirs?

Yes, those thought bought the Deluxe/Ultimate got the character slot right away. Veteran players that bought/buy Standard pre-purchase will be sent the loyalty slot at some point as noted in my first post. Veteran players that bought Deluxe/Ultimate will also receive the loyalty slot.

With the change standard gets one slot and deluxe and ultimate will have 2 slots. And yes, don’t confuse the beta character slot. That can’t be used for anything other than the beta character. I don’t think Anet has rolled this change out though. Be patient.

At first only the Deluxe and Ultimate edition got a slot. However, due to communicty uproar Anet changed this to 1 slot for Standard and 2 slots for Deluxe and Ultimate if you pre-purchase (meaning that if you pre-order or buy after launch you won’t get the “extra” slot).

I bought the basic edition today, and only have the beta slot right now. It clearly says “beta” on it so no confusion there. I haven’t gotten my extra slot yet.

Phy, the only editions that have their character slot yet are ultimate or deluxe.

The standard edition will recieve a “loyalty” character slot, when ever A-net figures out how to distribute them.

You have to have had your account registered before Jan 23 ’15 and (pre?)purchase HoT at any tier to get the loyalty slot, which will come eventually at some point, hopefully before HoT launch.

Nobody has their new (post-community announcement) slots yet. So as of this moment, standard has no slot and Deluxe and Ultimate will notice only one slot. Give them time, they will roll them out soon enough.

Here’s a rough breakdown of extra character slots:

Everyone who bought HoT – Geta a beta character slot (has a little green Beta tag in the bottom right corner and can’t be used unless a beta is running).

People who bought the Deluxe or Ultimate Editions – Also get a regular character slot.

Everyone who bought GW2 before January 2015 and buys any version of HoT – Will also, at a later date, get an extra character slot. So people who bought the standard edition will have 1+beta and people who bought the deluxe or ultimate will have 2+beta.

Everyone who bought GW2 after January 2015 – Does not get the extra slot mentioned above but can request a refund on the base game and still keep their account.

You missed this part though:

“If you purchased the core game from a third party, we are unable to provide a refund. However, if you registered the core game between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015 and upgrade it by prepurchasing any Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns edition before Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns‘ launch, we will add one additional character slot to your Guild Wars 2 account. The process of delivering your additional character slot will be the same as described above. If you would like a refund, you will need to contact that third party, as refunds are dependent on their policies and rules.”

Those people get slots too even though they purchased after january.

So if you purchased from a 3rd party and registered before June 16th and pre-order you get an extra slot.

Edit: Yeah what xarallei said. I’m too slow. ^_^;
