While many people are unhappy with the lost shores update and ascended gear. For now at least, I have faith in arenanet and believe that future updates will be better!

I personally think arenanet simply made a mistake….no person is perfect and neither is no company. I don’t see ascended gear going away but i believe they will make obtaining it easier and think very carefully before adding a new type of gear in the future.I see nothing wrong with adding a new type of gear as long as its done right. For ascended gear, i think they did a poor job of implementing it.

I also believe future events will be better. I think while the halloween event was great…the lost shores was lackluster in comparision.

Do any of you guys still have faith in arenanet and believe they make up for their mistake like i do?

I actually do have faith in ArenaNet still…
You are right, they did make a huge mistake adding the ascended gear. But they could always change things around by getting rid of it or by keeping it the same stats as the exodics/legendaries. Also removing Agony and infusions.

I still have faith because arenanet knows how to make fun/challenging contents. They done it before. They can do it again.

Let’s just hope this goes well. After all, they are making this game for us, the players.

I am waiting to see what the open QA answers are like on monday.

—If I see plans to continue putting more “agony” in this game at the expense of skill…

—If I see no plans to encourage people to leave fractals and to stop splintering our playerbase…
—If I see any plans for another tier beyond Ascended…

I will leave this game, never buy from ANet again, and more importantly forsake mmo’s all together.

  • Revamping all of our existing dungeons (Story and Explorable versions) through rebalance and overhauled encounters.
  • Adding new dungeons to the Fractal of the Mists.
  • Adding more variation to creatures, enhancing our open world scaling system, as well as evolving many events and experiences across Tyria.
  • Fixing and improving existing content throughout the game, and better tying it into the overall sense of player progression within Guild Wars 2.
  • Building on the Southsun Cove’s persistent content.
  • Adding new Guild content and Guild progression features.
  • Continuing to build upon the story and adventures of Guild Wars 2.

This is all I can say. I’m very hopeful.

Its been a week with this with no news that change will becoming. And they said the new zone they released was a success actually how many people do you see if you go there so how do you describe it as a success. I m new to guild wars so I cant say I have experience but I am certainly starting to think it might be a mistake to think I bought a game different from the wow clones already out there

Sure i still have faith, hope that they will fix what this patch caused (i’m not complaining the patch itself, just what it did to the old zones and dungeons).

Doesn’t matter if you like the new ascended gear or not, world outside LA is dying and that’s a fact you will notice at some point if not already.

I would if they had made a statement and at least acknowledge there’s been dissent about the ascended gear.
So far, they have been ignoring this particular issue.

While I won’t go into conspiracy theories like we’ve seen lately, and while we may have a bit a faith left in ArenaNet, maybe they’re just not in control anymore, or at least not free to do what they want.
We all know how publishers can ruin very good games. There’s plenty of examples…

GW2 needs cross-server lfg tool, underflow system for zones with low population, and some incentive for players to do lower level fractals.
These are the current pressing issues which are vital to keep players in game.

I doubt this will come awyhere in time.

People around here seem to forget that Guild Wars 2 is, in a very real sense, ArenaNet’s second video game. It is also their first persistent, open-world-based straight-up MMO, and we are in its first half-year of release. Twain’s Observation on Originality comes to mind, as does the advice I’ve been giving my friends, their friends, and every random stranger whose thread I can find the forbearance to post in since the game released. That, of course, being: give the poor kittens some TIME.

Does no one else remember the original state of Prophecies, or how immensely far ArenaNet had progressed the original Guild Wars from that rather questionable state given a few years? By the time Eye of the North hit, it was the same game pretty much in name only; so many improvements had been made, and improvements to the improvements, as ArenaNet figured out what worked, what didn’t, and what didn’t work but maybe could if they just fiddled with it a little more, that someone playing GWEN-era GW1 when used to release-edition Prophecies would recognize it only by art style and the presence of an eight-slot skillbar.

Things are shaky right now. I still enjoy the game, and now that I have a computer that can run it again without overheating it’s one of the first things I’m (still -_-) downloading, and I also have a strong faith in ArenaNet’s ability to muddle through it right alongside the rest of us and get it right eventually.

Do I like Ascended gear, or Agony? Not particularly. Not at all, actualy – I think they were terrible ideas, but I also wish to remind people that it was a direct response to the ungodly huge pile of hue-and-cry a significant amount of the previous forum poster base (but not, as it turns out, the player base) for just exactly what they got - namely gear progression and the exact same sort of end-game grind that Warcraft has been skating on for years. People wanted it, desperately. So, ArenaNet trotted some of it out there to see what reception it got and ended up having to go get some burn cream. A lot of burn cream, from what I’ve heard. So glad I wasn’t around for that one…but the fact remains:

Lesson learned. No one else seems to remember this, but ArenaNet is very good at learning lessons. Give them time to learn those lessons. Come back in a year – the game has no subscription, you can totally do that. Take a break, do something else, and come back later. ArenaNet’ll let you, and the rest of us won’t stop you. It’ll get better. I promise.

They always have.

I have not always agreed with them and probably never will but for the most part I’d have to say they always try to aim to please as many as possible. If however you’re looking at all the " Doomsday " threads and comments on these forums those will always be there even if the game was standing at a 99.9% success rating and John Q public was eating it up so fast they couldn’t make copies of the game fast enough.

They have made some mistakes that have upset a large number of their player base and there are things they need to address on the bug and issues fronts that should be fixed before adding all this new content. Happy to see the added content but I’d like to see underwater issues, the invulnerability bug, and rendering fixed. I would think the more you add the more those things will get harder to fix. There’s some genuine concerns players have and some are just kiddies throwing fits.

If I listed my biggest gripe it’s the fact that P vs P and P vs E are still trying to be combined together and I’ve never seen them be able to do that and as far as how I like to play personally it could never be fixed to the point I’d like to play it ( hates P vs P with a passion ). To answer the question though. I have high hopes for this game and Arena.net is not nor could it ever be compared to companies such as Blizzard Entertainment. I’ve never seen them please everyone ( can’t happen ) but they have always shown a concern and desire to stay in touch with their fans. It’s been the only company I’ve actually heard key people there say in interviews that they are "providing a service " and with that mentality you’ll get more than something ran by some CEO answering to greedy stockholders. I’ve also never heard of companies letting their employees work on and take aspects of this game home and on " personal " time create things for the fans. They’re pretty passionate about their work and it shows but this game is a completely new direction for many of them and the company so they will be learning and YES …… " making many mistakes " along the way.

If I had to pick a gaming company to let’s say fix broken things or appease their fans, yeah I’d be backing Arena.net. I’ll still give them an ear full though when I see things I feel need to be said and a direction I see things going I’d rather not.

Honor is limited only by the limitations that we place upon ourselves.

I think the OP is correct in that they will make it easier to get ascended gear over time. But here is the problem. The people that finally get the gear will feel like it is sloppy seconds. The people that worked so hard to get the gear will have disdain for the people that got it easier and view it as “welfare epics.” There will be animosity between the two groups. They will call each other names like care bears and content locusts. The cycle will repeat for each new slot of gear that is slowly released. No thanks, been there, done that. Might as well go play a panda if I wanted to live this cycle.

There is a future for GW2 and it will be a success. There are many people who like the changes. It’s just not why I bought the game.

It seems that almost all big games have shaky starts, and this one is no exception. Even GW1, which I speak so highly of, I didn’t start playing until Nightfall was out.

There are still lots of bugs in the game that need to be fixed as well as some balance issues. There was the backlash against ascended gear. I am very curious to see what ArenaNet does with gear in the future. I believe this will be a pivotal issue for a lot of players.

Give it time and see what happens. Step away from the game if you must, but give it a chance. I do hope that the people that quit the game reconsider at some point.

Actually, yes it is. I can’t speak for the dungeons because I don’t like doing dungeons at all so, I don’t. And the nice thing was, emphasis on was, it didn’t matter to my experience of the game. I was able to get all the gear I needed for WvW by playing WvW. Once I got that gear, all I had to concern myself with was getting better at my class and having fun with my guild mates while we attack that wall for the umpteenth time. I don’t feel like that is something I have to do (like a gear grind), rather, it’s something I enjoy doing. That is my endgame – having fun with my friends.

You should really leave this game and go play a traditional MMO where you can always be one step away from the glowing carrot that is the never ending grind for gear. Lineage 2, Aion, WoW are all excellent nightmare gear grinds, I’m sure you’d be quite happy there.

Great post, OP. I also still have faith in Anet. I am usually that person in the argument who does her best to defend their actions, not in a “fangirl” way, but rather with logical arguments about why things aren’t as bad as they seem or why we can expect them to get better. None of the “scandals” that have gotten the forums up in arms so far—Black Lion chests, lack of end game, botting, etc etc etc—have really made me upset at Anet. None of them ruined my enjoyment of the game.

However, Lost Shores and ascended gear is the first thing that has put me on the other side of the fence with the people who are very unhappy and disappointed. If we look at the costs of one ascended back slot item, then Anet is now telling me that if I want a full set of max stat gear, ever, then I have to get more ecto than I needed in GW1 for a set of Obsidian armor (which, by the way, was only cosmetically elite; its stats were the same as the max armor you could get for 5 plat at level 2). It is safe for me to say, with these requirements, I will NEVER have max stat gear, and all my characters will be sub-par for the life of the game, because I am not made of hardcore leetsauce. This daunting prospect, plus the grueling Lost Shores events, have left a bad taste in my mouth. For the first time since I started playing GW with Factions, I am voluntarily taking a break from a Guild Wars game to give myself time to feel better. Right now, GW2 does not feel like my game anymore.

That said, I have not given up. Taking a break and waiting for news is different from quitting, which I honestly don’t think I could ever do. Tyria has been a very dear part of my gaming life for too long.

I do feel that Anet’s actions until now have built up a relationship of trust with me as their customer over many years. Every time I was skeptical about their decisions, they surprised me and it turned out to be much better than I expected. That could be the case now. Or probably they just made a real mistake of epic proportions. But I do trust them to make it right.

DevilLordLaser made a very important point in his post that we should absolutely keep in mind. “Vanilla Prophecies,” as much as we nostalgiacally love it, was not a particularly spectacular game. It had all the ingredients for the awesome GW1 we came to know, but it was not there yet. In fact, it was quite a ways off. But look how amazing it became.

A lot of people will disagree with me, and I don’t blame you, but I personally do trust Anet’s good intentions. They are artists who care about making a quality game. I also trust their iteration process. Sometimes their grand artistic ideas don’t work out so well in reality, but they evaluate themselves about this and are open about their desire to make the game better. They have stated again and again, and shown in their actions regarding GW1 and earlier GW2 content, that they are not only willing for their game to evolve, they are determined to make sure it does.

I say, lets be patient and not give up on the potential of this beautiful game yet. And especially let’s try to be patient with each other, even if we fiercely disagree. We are all in this together, and all the shouting at each other on the forums as well as the shouting at the devs will only make a depressing time worse, not get anything done about it. Courtesy and a refusal to back down from one’s opinions are not mutually exclusive.

I would be in qualified agreement with you on this. I have not lost faith entirely in the game. ArenaNet has made a misstep in trying to appease those who bought a baseball and want to play football with it. It has already had a negative effect on the quality of life in-game. It will only get worse if it continues. And they’ve introduced the very thing they said they were not about—a gear grind. The key will be in how they handle the crisis. They can come out of it integrity intact but we will have to wait and see. I love the game and would love to continue playing it for years to come. I have not yet lost all hope and have not quit the game.

The problem is that even if their internal data shows that introduction of Ascended/Fractals has hurt the core design of their game or lost them a moderate number of customers/cash shop revenue, it may too late to revert back. It is also too late to salvage what is left of their reputation and credibility.

Long after Ascended fades into the wind, people will remember that “Arenanet did not even believe in their own design philosophy. After a few months, they moved more towards a traditional approach to end game.”

Does not matter if it is true. It is the perception that is out there now. People seem to think that the discussion about them backing away is only happening on this forum. It is not. Gaming sites, bloggers and retail sites have gotten wind to this and are calling them out on it.

I had faith in Arenanet and believed that they fully supported their design vision. Also, really impressed with their Dev team despite the bugs. But now, I do not believe they have confidence in the product they originally launched.

A mistake is messing up a profession’s skills. This is a major marketing blunder since it speaks to an overhaul of what they originally sold and a retraction of Mike O’Brien’s, Arenanet President, statements about the approach he has used to make a “unique” MMO, different from all the rest depending on gear progression/raids/content gating.

Introduction of Ascended and the approach to Fractals. Yep that was a dealbreaker. I bought a product that I was enjoying for months and now they have changed one of its core and important features. They changed the feature that was one of the main selling points for me. So yes, I am disappointed and have stopped supporting the game (no playtime in a week, no cash shop purchases the limited time I played last weekend).

Posting and reading forums every now in then in the hopes that they recognize the issues and go back to their original design vision.

If they revert the gating aspect, nerf the “extra stats” on Ascended gear and spread it across ALL content rather than just fractals, and come forward with a public apology, they can turn the negative press into a vindication of their trajectory.

If they don’t, it will be the end of their integrity as a company.

I feel like this too, i can give them all the time they need to fix the game they promise us, but That 180° turn is just a lowblow, and 10 days of “No reply” are even worse.
So, i dont really have too much faith left, ill wait monday and only then ill decide what to do.

Because, like Guild Wars before it, GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs.
It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill"

It’s the holiday season. They probably need the right players to be in the office to discuss the fallout and plot a new trajectory.

Next week will tell.

Do any of you guys still have faith in arenanet and believe they make up for their mistake like i do?

Very little, but yes I do. Why little? Let’s take just the Halloween event and chest fiasco. You think they’d learn from it and stop trying to get money with RNG. What do they do? They put the minis on RNG as well, basically trying to squeeze a bit more money from the people who actually collect those instead of skins. Why not leave them in a mini pack like they were? I’m feeling more and more that anything they do is for nothing else than money but I still hope this will change.

I generally still have faith in them. They’re a good company; they make mistakes like the rest of us. I only hope when another controversial is added, they poll the community before they ignite a firestorm.

They’ve delivered a solid product, a beautiful gameworld, and an overall fun game. It’s not without its faults (like the bloody in-combat running detriment), but those faults do not diminish this game’s long term enjoyment for me. I’m genuinely looking forward to new zones, new gear, and new stories.

Cheers.

I personally don’t trust them anymore. They were a good company, but I can’t tell they still are. Marketing your game for several years, based on the idea of “no grind” & such, then going the opposite direction is certainly a mistake, but a good company would have aknowledged the mistake, apologized, and tried to fix it. I’ve seen none of that, only a “do like nothing happened” mentality.

“We don’t make grindy games!”

Then GW2 is either not a game, or made by you.

Faith? Yeah still got some of that. Do I like some of the recent changes? No. Will I still continue complaining? Yes. If I don’t then how will ANet know (although I guess it can come off as me not liking the game, but that’s not the case).

I do however feel that some of the transparency, some of the active engagement with the community has gone (looking at the Dev Tracker here you get a pretty standard response feel). I still believe ANet can turn it around and it won’t be all that difficult, just provide us some candid responses, some detailed discussion about some of the reasoning behind some of their decisions of late (which post launch has been massively lacking, and no telling us you’re implementing fractals is not equivalent to some of the more interesting design posts they had on the blog pre-launch where they detailed the logic and thought process).

Let’s be honest here, Anet has lost sight of how to make a fun game.

GW2 is a shallow, boring, simple grind fest.
