“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.
Good job Arenanet.
Been longer for me. Seems they’re leaving. Or being taken care of.
i got one last night, actually. but chat has been pretty devoid of gold spamming, lately.
Same here. Can’t remember exactly when I received my last one, and at a stage I logged in with two in mail, and receive one to two more during play. Chat also seem void of spammers, haven’t reported anyone in days…
Oh I’ve reported plenty of bots, but at least the chat is cleaner now.
However, if you don’t want us spaming LF2M AC EX, then IMPROVE the LFG system. I can’t even say it 3 times =(
They banned 3000 bots this tuesday.
Still, I’ve seen a few dozens of bots today.
I wonder, since the places are always the same (kessex hills, frostgorge, etc) can’t they have one person visit those places daily on every server and ban bots?
It just takes one person and their team is 10x larger than GW1’s.
Me either. Good job on that, ANet. Now if only you would do ANYTHING about bots I wouldn’t want to vomit every time I play the game.

They are trying to make methods that can sweep bot activity automatically or something, which makes sense, but I think having an on call team works well too.
The key for this, actually, is the tightening of security, so it’s not as easy to hijack accounts as it was for the first month.
The in-game spam can’t be very fruitful, cuz I’m betting all the cheaters who want to buy gold will turn first to Google.
You haven’t gotten a gold sale letter in a week because they did a wave of bans for botters. Lucky for you, (my server at least) has increaed in botters threefold. I used to see a manageable 7-8 botters at every single event. I just logged in and counter 23 botters in one waypoint alone. They haven’t had the gold cashflow coming in, so the letters slowed down. They will pick up to three times as often in no time unless arenanet learns how to actually manage their gaming community.
I have gotten two today.
Gee… I kinda miss those letters… because for some reasons they attach a free copper to their letters…
I used to get 1 a day, if not 2(rarely). It’s like 1 every 2 or 3 days now.
@Sekin
I’ve never received any coppers from bots. Are you sure you’re not confusing a friend of yours tricking you? lol
Gold sellers would throw 1 copper into their letters so that you can’t just delete it on sight. You have to actually “Take All”, and they hope in that time you’ll actually read the letters contents and say, “Yeah… that’s a good deal…”
I haven’t had one in several days to maybe a week as well!
I’ve had one in the last week, which is a vast improvement!
i still regularly get 3+ a day
Now that you mention it, I haven’t either. Cool.
at least one a day here
Good job Arenanet.
I too noticed this. Good job indeed.
I’m new to the game (playing for about a week, main is lvl 10) and I was VERY impressed with, at least on the Kaineng Server, what appears to be a complete lack of the typical gold spammers and spam emails. Many games are haunted by them, this one hasn’t been (for me). Not a single one. No chat messages, either.
It’s very refreshing, and promises to make my stay in Tyria an extended one

source ?
I can personally say I get one pretty much every time i warp into LA.
“The in-game spam can’t be very fruitful, cuz I’m betting all the cheaters who want to buy gold will turn first to Google.”
That’s very risky since you’ll not get gold but a hacked account instead in too many cases to make buying gold worth it. Gold may be overpriced in the item mall, but at least it’s safe.
Well, gold sellers have found a new batch of accounts. Just logged in, three seperate mails.
Still receiving in-game mail from gold sellers. Still seeing gold selling spam in chat. Still watching them running around in packs, “hunting” out in the wilds. Still reporting, for whatever that’s worth.

Reporting is good. And removing bots is an incremental thing. There’s a certain level of “whack-a-mole” on this, but trust me, the moles are losing.
The 3001st bot sent me a spam mail though
I still get a ton of them on Fort Aspenwood. In fact, today I just created a new toon. As soon as I can play them I’ve got 2 items of mail. One being my Hero Band and the other being a gold seller.
I received a copper from an in game spammer once. It made it impossible to delete the mail until I took the copper. Then I felt dirty for taking it. Its odd but it seems I get the most in game RMT promo mails right after a new update.
I always get them in LA, but not nearly as many now. I guess that’s just where they all congregate so it doesn’t surprise me that a few slip through the cracks. Still, a vast improvement over two weeks ago!
I’ve noticed a decrease in the last week of gold spam letter and chat text as well. They are irregular for me now, every few days it seems in the mail. It will be cool if they can be kept at low frequencies.
I still get one every day it seems… At least it’s an improvement over the 2-3 I got every day. Chat seems to have been cleaned up though as I don’t recall seeing the gold-spam there anymore.
EDIT: I think I just jinxed it. Got me a second mail just now.
I love you
baby

The past: whenever I would log out and back in there were, on average, three messages. Every time. Oddly, I never received messages while in actively game.
The present: One message in the past week or so I would say.
So … thanks a bunch ArenaNet for stealing my guaranteed income of three coppers a day! As hard as gold is to make in this game …
No. In reality it’s good to see you’re on top of the spammer issue.
to people complaining about bots: one step at a time. When we were being flooded by gold spammers, day in and day out we’d complain on the forum. but eventually, they stopped. Granted bots have a larger impact on the economy, I believe eventually they’ll dwindle down in numbers… especially if people STOP buying gold from them, getting their services, blah blah.
The gem/gold conversion is going up too, forcing gold seller less profit. Good for people that want gold, not so good for me
The mail gold sellers seemed to have finally stopped, but have seen two or three in Lion’s Arch on Tarnished Coast server, just using map chat to advertise. Have reported them as usual, but they seem particularly determined to keep in the game.
Good job Arenanet.
I second that motion.
just got another
they’re very different from the botters in the world. Spammers almost always look like a real-person’s account, whereas the bots will be named “ranger a” “ranger b” “flyer a” etc.
I got 3 today after about a week not getting any!
3000 sounds impressive til I go anywhere on my server and there are swarms of bots, probably 100+ in cursed shore alone, and that slice of 3000 that applies to my server isn’t noticeable at all.
I’ve been getting less but still some. I’ve seen some bots (for the first time) in Frostgorge Sound in the area with the cracks in the ice (drakes, imps, trolls, elementals).

I like “whack-a-mole”
How long til the next wave of bans?
Or do we have to suffer the bot trains running through every event map worth doing on their way to level 80,farming for a month again. Is this going to be an infinite loop,or are we gonna get some feet on the ground (server GMs) to squash them early ?
Oh and by the way,the Kessex hill bridge botting fix only partially worked. Now instead of AFK bots camping there, the ranger bot trains are hauling kitten through the event messin it up for the small portion of real players trying to complete it.
Good job halting/slowing the gold mails, but really could do with Dhuum visiting Frostgorge.
So disheartening seeing easily over a dozen bots running the valley & yet more at the mob camp at the end.
Way too many to report
I report every one I get. I still get them occasionally but it’s not a huge amount of them. At the most 1 every other day or so. I haven’t heard any goldsellers in chat in a few days so that’s a good sign.
I previously got one last night, but I am glad to hear the pace is slowing down.
I get about one a day, still an improvement as it used to be ten though.
I admit.
I got one mail spam this week, but that acceptable.
They are actually cleansing our servers and I thank anet for that.

I’m jealous, gold sellers never send me free money, all they do is harass me. That said, I haven’ been harassed in several days, so that’s probably better ’en a copper.
