I hope the expansions work like they did back in GW1.
I dunno that the modern MMO player can handle expansions without increases in level cap. I think they’d be confused as to why they should buy it and play if there’s no “progression” (read: gear upgrades with new text colors and bigger numbers).
As for the skills,, I’d like to remind you that you could do far less with your cards in M:tG Alpha/Beta than you can with the dozens and dozens of expansion sets since. Even in GW1 each expansion added loads of new skills and ways to build your characters. All of that didn’t happen at the launch of Prophecies, so be a bit patient.
Priorities, what to do?
Spend hours with dye
You can always transmute your legendary if there are better items in the future. Legendaries only exist for aesthetic purposes now anyways.
Can you imagine if they increased the level cap? A lot of worthless gear you have to buy alllllllll over again.
Considering the considerable cost of outfitting yourself in GW2 (yes, yes, I know other MMOs are worse. I don’t care), I think raising the level cap will just be a disaster.
I for one hate MMOs, which is why I liked GW1. ANet said about GW2, “If you hate MMOs, you’ll definitely love GW2.” Well, no, I don’t. And most of the problems I have with the game are that they turned the game series into even more of a MMO, with standard conventions that were never needed to begin with. Endgame materials and equipment are unnecessarily rare compared to GW1. I really do not want to see a hike in levels just because most MMO players need their hand held and something to do on release, resulting in a new giant hike in prices across new tiers of everything in the game, that no one asked for.
Stop steaming, people. In “that other” MMO, level cap was raised because that was the only way of including new abilities for the classes. In GW2, it’s not like that at all. When they add new content, if they want to add new skills, they add new skills. They simply don’t need to raise the level cap for any valid reason.
Will the expansion come soon?
Raising the level cap is really not necessary in this game. To steal an example from GW1, they could introduce Cantha with its own range of zones, dungeons, and personal storyline that takes you from level 1 to 80, and every player (regardless of their level) would be able to enjoy the new adventure in its entirety thanks to the scaling mechanics.
You don’t have to tack on 5 or 10 character “levels” to do this (as GW1 showed). There are other ways to allow character progression.

This pretty much nails it imo, they have created so much room in this game to expand upon without needing to up your levels.. i’d actually be a little sad if thats the route they take.. some people might argue for more skills/traits.. just include new weapons and add more traits.. simple as that.
Actually, I think they’ve said that they won’t add full campaign expansions like in GW1, but more along the lines of how EotN was. I can’t direct you to where I read that though, since it’s been a long while. But, considering the quality of the areas in GW2, it’d be quite the challenge to create equally immense campaigns on an expansion model.
EDIT: With their current system, adding new major traits wouldn’t be any problem, one of the reasons they made it like it is now was for the ease of expanding it.
I second this opinion… one of my main gripes with WoW was that all my hard worked epic gear were replaced every expansion (I quit playing for a few months, half a year every expansion release) for some greens.
It’s as if they were throwing in our faces “Heh, you see all this stuff you worked countless hours to get? We can just make them useless like… this!”
Hmm, thinking now, I’ll probably never play a game like that ever again.
Though I don’t intend to play a game FOREVER, but making players feel/think they wasted their time by throwing their efforts through the window is NOT cool.
id flip a table if they did and played some other MMORPG
I think because this game focuses more on level progression than GW 1 did, new expansions without an increase in level cap would feel a little off. Though, I think the absolute limit for a level cap should be 100. Anything higher than that just starts to feel silly. Also, because most of the “expansions” in GW 1 were campaigns which were standalone, the addition of new starting areas, in some ways, gave the illusion that there was level progression for new characters at least.
If they would raise the level cap, they’d make a lot of people angry, very angry. Also, it wouldn’t make any sense given how the leveling works. If they’d raise the level cap, that’d mean you’d get that much more trait points. Where would you dump those trait points? They’d have to create “Super Grandmaster” tier traits, or have players fill every current line, ruining the concept of builds. Also, when you reach level 80, you don’t stop getting xp. You keep getting skill points each time you level. Skill points that you may use for skills they’ll add later with expansions.
Also, PvP gear is level 80 exotic gear. In other words, the best there is. If they would raise the level cap, they’d have to rework all those numbers again to have them balanced for max level characters.
So, not only there would be no reason other than to cater for WoW exiles addicted to leveling for raising the level cap, it’d break the systems and balance that is in place currently. It’d be horrible and stupid, so I wouldn’t worry about Anet doing such a mistake.
Raising the level cap is dumb.
Anyway, I really like how the expansions added thematic content. Especially Factions, the environments were breath-taking at times, with an awesome score. That’s all I really care about, new places to explore. Creating artificial content with level cap raising is a scheme I think Anet is above.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they did tbh.
They made this game way more like your standard MMO than GW1 was.

This is not about the pool of skills to pick from so much as what they are expected to do. You are expected to use your weapon skills for the most part, the rest are utility. This means that the bread and butter of what you do is directly tied to the weapons, and while it is an interesting idea, it is far more restrictive than their first game.
And you don’t have to remind me about the content added with the expansions, I bought GW at launch. I have nothing but fond memories of it
Increasing the level cap with an expansion is a lazy design method. A good and solid design would be to allow the game to grow and give much more content for all players. Gw1 did this superbly.
