I just realized I can make another character and have it instantly on the same power level as my main character (if same armor class).

1. Use 80 tomes of knowledge to get to level 80.
2. Transfer all ascended gear from main character to new character.
3. Transfer 20-slot bags, gathering tools and other stuff from main to new character.

This is pretty cool.

You’ll need to grind out those mastery points again though but yeah, it’s pretty darn nice. This is why I’m afraid of being an alt fanatic.

Perhaps you mean Hero points?

No you dont, if you play WvW you can max out your mastery in 30 seconds.

I have to admit I have no clue as to how you max out your Mastery Points in 30 seconds in WvW.

Perhaps you mean max out your Hero points by using up Proof of Heroics gained in WvW and stored away to max out your Elite Specialization.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Masteries are things like gliding and Fractal Attunement – they’re account wide so once you’ve got them once they apply to all your characters.

Hero Points are used to unlock skills and specialisations. These are character specific so that’s probably what Seranus and Dawdler are talking about. Although getting to level 80 gets you enough to learn all your skills and all the normal specialisations, so you only need to get extra points for the elite specialisation.

Ok, I’ll bite… how do you max out hero points so fast in WvW? Sorry… pretty new to the game.

I understand that part but how are you getting those proofs so quickly? Running EotM?

I guess they are talking about stored proof of heroics earned by your main character. Otherwise 30 seconds would indeed be very fast.

Well earned by any character. I cant remember what’s needed, 200 proofs or whatever it is. I have 2000 of them currently (and have probably spent that number already on siege and crap). They are fairly easy to come by. So with scrolls, tomes and proofs you can get a character to 80 with full mastery without stepping a foot in HoT.

Just to be picky. Full elite specialization, not full mastery. The two are not the same and people using mastery/elite spec/hero points interchangeably is confusing to those who are new and don’t understand that when someone says mastery they don’t mean mastery but something else.

No one is getting them “in 30 seconds”…. that person was exaggerating.

Storing Proof of Heroics to max elite specs in a minute is pretty good. I’ve got about 500 proofs waiting (now I stopped buying Superior seige on demand in the field) just incase I want to reroll a character.

They’re also good to get HoT map completion so you don’t have to wait for hero points trains for the few that you need.

Kitten.

It’s confusing me and I’ve been here for years.

I still have to remind myself to call them specialisations and not trait lines (but the things within them are still traits) and hero points, not skill points. So throwing masteries into the mix is even worse.

You’re confusing mastery points with hero points. Mastery points are account wide. Once your alt turns level 80 all the masteries you have unlocked will be unlocked on that character. You can even glide on new alts before they’re 80, if you have gliding unlocked on another character.

By getting to level 80, you have every single specialization and skill unlocked, even if you never do a hero point challenge. After that it takes about 2 hours to unlock your elite spec in Heart of Thorns.

Not sure why anyone thinks that’s so arduous to unlock an entire character to max in a couple of hours.

You lose any bag slots you bought for that character though. I can’t live with the base number, I use about that many for things like alternate weapons, food, cosmetic, fluff, daily cooldown, harvesting tools etc.

powering up to 80 will give you enough hero points to get every single skill

but what you lose is, full map completion, full story completion, full crafting discipline leveled, fractals advancement?(not sure), dungeons story modes done,

what you lose is more than enough with the map completion to not wish to play an alt or make a new character atleast for me

Every skill except for the new elite skills.. You need to farm hero points for those. IN HoT, Tyria, or in WvW.
