First off let me say that the introduction of Ascended gear does concern me. However I’m going to let this slide because I can still log onto the game and enjoy it.

While it is annoying to see people desperately making LFG requests in Lion’s Arch for FoTM, it doesn’t stop me from exploring, experiencing my personal story, obtaining achievements or participating in dynamic events.

When Lindsey mentioned having “an edge in end-game”, that worried me. I hope that what she meant was merely having an edge in FoTM, in which case I could care less since I’m not a dungeon runner. It will bother me if we get WoW 2.0 and gear overrides skill and becomes the end-all, be-all of our GW2 experience.

Why do you “hope?” It is in plain evidence that this is not what was meant.

I hope that’s the case because like I said before it would be horrible if Ascended gear gave an edge beyond FoTM and ArenaNet used that as a stepping stone to introduce a bigger gear treadmill.

You may be right though. I’m letting the forum get to me.

Why is there another post on this when the front page has many? Post there instead.

It isn’t a treadmill. Take the most known standard WoW. You get Epics at max level, but need to get better Epics at max level because the stats keep inflating.

You end up with tiers within tiers of armor. Hence, a treadmill.

In GW2, you only have 1-Basic, 2-Blue (forget what called), 3-Masterwork, 4-Rare, 5-Exotic, then 6-Ascended (Legendary shares this tier)

There are only 6 tiers. Period.

The only worry is if Ascended will be too grindy allowing the players that play more to get ahead. Debate about time, not tiers.

And do so in the thread all about this.

That’s a grind, not a treadmill. A treadmill is something where you keep running, but never reach the max armor, because they implement a new tier shortly after the last one.

Introducing one new tier is not treadmilling yet. It’s a new grind, yes. But it’s only a treadmill if they keep coming up with new tiers. And only time will tell if this will remain a grind, or will evolve in a treadmill.

And the game has incoming patches.

If you want to spend that time to get the tiny amount of Ascended gear, feel free. Just know that it won’t make you stronger in WvW or other PvE content. At 80, you need (I think) 25 more of a stat to go up by 1. So the new tier will not affect 1 point, since you can’t reach 25 more of a stat.

Sorry to burst your bubble. But it isn’t mandatory to get in order to compete.

It just is not an issue at the moment, unless the next patches introduce more of a full set, and still take that long. Then WvW and PvE will be affected. Which, we have been providing feedback on saying our concerns.

Right now, it is only tied into the Fractals, so it makes perfect sense to take that long. The Fractals are all about going up in level and meant to take time. Otherwise, there is no point to do Fractals or get the Ascended gear. They only synergize with each other.

There is no treadmill. Yet.

Anet stated that they’ll be adding in new infusions that increase in power.

So ascended gear is just a long grind, yes, and you’ll have to repeat it for every new piece of gear. The infusions however are a treadmill.

This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots, so that leaves us a lot of room to build upon these levels of Item progression in future content.

As we release more new end game content in the future, you’ll see more Infusions and Ascended item types being added to the game. Eventually, you’ll be able to kit yourself out with a full set of Ascended gear and high end Infusions to help give you the edge in end game content.

How exactly can you read this and not come to the conclusion that there will be more and more of this crap to chase after. It’s a treadmill and Linsey Murdock said so much in those two paragraphs.

Lol so at least 20% better stats than exotics is meaningless in wvwvw? Lol ok. Sorry again, but unless you enjoy being cannon fodder in wvwvw, the this Is mandatory. Try again.

3% total for your character.

Under that when you take traits into account.

What you guys forget, infusions are tiered in a tier. Nothing stops them to introduce after blue, green, yellow, orange infusions, meta-infusions which come also in the flavor blue, green, yellow, orange.

And with that they would not break the promise of introducing armor tiers every 3 months, quite catchy.

Who exactly are you competing with? Curious.

I agree with the OP, mostly. I don’t mind the new content because it doesn’t lock me out of any content. I can still run any dungeon, go to any area. Even agony isn’t that much of a big deal. By the time you get to level 10 you’d have crafted your backpiece already, and beyond that ascended trinkets start dropping. So not worried.

Because people are naive or simply blind. It specificly stated that they want to introduce more and more ascended items over time. This is known as a carrot on a stick for people to chase after AKA treadmill. The grind required makes this the worst kind of treadmill as well.
The other argument is it’s not that much of an increase. Guess what new content will be made with these new stats in mind. So if you have lesser gear you are at a disadvantage. You happen to find yourself 1 on 1 in WvW, disadvantage.
You don’t have ascended gear for new dungeons? sorry we don’t want you no matter how skilled you are we want the noob that grinded his gear but sucks as a player instead.

It just think the big issue is that people feel they can no longer trust ANet. This ascended change dropped like a bomb out of nowhere. There was no indication of it, and no one saw it coming. Word only came three days before the change.
Those people are thinking: “You know, if they have his in the works, then what else is brewing?”

These fans feel cheated, because to them this is in direct violation of ANet’s intentions for the game. If this was announced from the get go, people would have felt included into the process, and there would be no questions about it. But right now, behind the scenes ANet are doing things that everyone feels scared about.

To an extent, the fans maybe shouldn’t overreact, but then again, they wouldn’t react as such if ANet didn’t keep everyone in the dark.

I find it funny how people are moaning about new gear tier’s. I’m more concerned with the complete lack of balancing and bug fixing the games receiving. They are a money grabbing games company that are pushing for more broken content rather then fixing their old stuff… because in their eyes the time and effort doesn’t translate to money, don’t trust anything they say. Have people not learnt this by now?
