Please check my posting history – there was never a bad word about the GW franchise since I love GW for many, many years. I love the HoT content so much, it’s great, fun and I have so many goals yet to reach. The meta events are awesome and I love doing them!

Or wait: I WOULD love doing them. There are plenty of communities out there gathering people for the meta events where you need organization on voice comm. Those are:

  • Tripple Trouble Threat
  • Verdant Brink T4
  • Tangled Depth meta

This is incredibly frustrating. Ofc there are hundreds of players in teamspeak hoping to get in. Today alone I wasted almost 2 hours getting on a organized TTT and VB map. Waiting time includes:

  • waiting on TS for the orga to start
  • the orga itself (waiting for commanders, looking for map, jump to correct ip, setting up taxis)
  • the worst part: “Join on map” spam. Usually I give up after 100 failed attempts to join on the squad

This whole process is annoying, not fun at all and super frustrating. Instead of enjoying the game’s awesome content, I’m totally kittened not to be able to do what I want. Even worse, losing so much time doing nothing but waiting and failing to join.

I don’t know how to solve this with the event structure we have in GW2, but this seriously drags me away from this game. Imo this really needs to be addressed, cuz I can’t stand it anymore not getting on a proper map again. Heck, I tried joining a proper TD map around 20 times by now, never I got in and thus I never succeeded the meta. Taxi Wars is the one thing (almost the only one thing) I really, really hate about this game.

DS is unusually brutal for taxi wars. If you load in to the map at XX:31, you’re probably too late. You’ll join a few taxis for full maps, and then be temp banned from LFG.

Yeah, its part of the reason I can’t stand the HoT maps. I refuse to play the whole Taxi game, so I’ve yet to even complete Dragon’s Stand (1 good map I got into I crashed out of about 10-15 minutes in). At this point I’m considering just walking away for another year and waiting for the maps to die enough that they have to do something.

Gone for good after Halloween 2Ø12.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.

Adding insult to injury is the “you cannot join another party for X minutes”. I try to taxi into a map, and it is full, then I try again, and again, FULL. Fast forward to when I can join another party and the meta is either over (TD), or the map is about to fail and the only ones left are the poor guys trying to taxi others in for the small chance at success.

+1 Yep taxi wars sucks.

You don’t need voice comm for VB T4. The only thing you need is to do is force people to spread out to the rally points.

Where as TD might fail even with the best voice comm.

And how do you force people to spread without a proper TS orga? Good luck with that. Also TD is totally doable with the communites I’m runing stuff in EU (if I would only be able to join).

A lot of problems would be solved if Anet decided to….STOP OPENING SO MANY MAPS.

Instead of the current system of opening 15 maps and dumping 20 players per map…how about only open a new map if ALL current maps are 90% full? This would result in a few very populated maps that players can immediately participate on (a few unlucky leftovers will end up on the last map but that map might fill up to 90% eventually too).

Or just not tie everything to the kittened clock so people can organize and do stuff in their own time. I’n not participating in anything until it gets cut loose from the clock.

They can and tell me how to play, within limits. I’ll adapt. They can however not tell me when to play. Ever.

While mega-servers kind of solve the former problem — some servers not being able to muster enough players to do stuff — the mega-server system does have its issues, and the OP is highlighting one of them. Tweaks to the numbers at which the game produces new maps might help. The HoT metas sound like there is more of an issue than was seen in SW. I saw a lot fewer complaints when the zone meta was not on a bloody timer.

I know people will say that the timer provides more reliability in knowing when to go, but the convenience inherent in reliable timing is lost when players cannot get into the maps. Another thing that could be looked at is the number of players needed to move a meta along, with better scaling in case players do manage to get the full map involved.

In general, the game is really lacking in the way it handles maps atm.
Main issues that I see.
-Players are kept out of the loop,it’s not clear to them how many maps are active and
what is the population in each map.
-Players try to circumvent the absence of a proper map join system by utilising
the party join function of the LFG tool.
-The LFG tool has an overly sensitive system that prohibits players from joining
parties after a few failed attempts to join a map.
-There is no grace period for players that disconnect in order for them to be able to
rejoin a map, resulting in the loss of participation, rewards, and many minutes of work,
upwards of an hour in many cases.

About the events and the timers.
It would be hard to leave everything out of the timer controls since the events
flow is tied to the day and night cycle.
What could and in my opinion should be done,is to increase the duration of each phase.Longer days and longer nights.

-Win a pip,lose a pip,win a pip,lose a pip,lose a pip,
lose a pip,win 2 pips,lose a pip,lose a pip…………..-
-Go go Espartz.-

Yeah, I have to admit that I’m getting really tired of a significant portion of my gameplay being dependent on taxiing around the HoT maps.

It gets old really quickly.

I think there’s also a Little Red Hen problem on some maps. Everyone wants to eat the bread but no one wants to help plow, plant, weed, reap, mill, and bake.

In Dry Top, everyone wants to be in a t4+ map but nobody wants to drive it there, so players flood in at the last minute every hour hoping that somebody else has done the donkey work.

In SW the calls to taxi people in don’t begin when the meta begins, but only when a Breach is about to happen. Everyone wants the breach bosses and the vinewrath, but nobody wants to hold and upgrade the forts.

I haven’t spent that much time in the HoT maps yet. Perhaps the meta-participation bar is helping to prevent a similar dynamic from taking place there.

Each map can only hold a finite amount of players. If you couldn’t get in, that means the map is full. When you have 200 people waiting on TS to get into a map that can hold 120, you know already that they’re gonna be a lot of players left out. When I was in TTS, we had this same problem, so our Commanders spread out and did multiple maps. If your guild or friends won’t do this, then the only other option is to taxi in faster and win the lotto on character map slots.

I’d like to add the frustration that we lose our map participation % when taxing. Often when you do events the map you’re on turns out to be empty/ppl leave to other maps for metas. And if u manage to get into a taxi via lfg you lose all ur %, giving u much less rewards. That is broken, and yet devs do nuthin. I keep throwing G’s at the gemstore but nothing is happening either.

That’s exactly what happened yesterday… saw TD ORG META… Flipped over… Handful of people, no tags… Only a few minutes on the clock before the meta starts… Looked at progress bar… Zoned to DS… DS 51 minutes in the clock and tons of people standing around…

This. Ive lost track how many times I’ve been on maps that fail to keep/retake forts from mordrem, or complete escorts in silverwastes because everyone bails after the last meta event leaving a near empty map. People want the rewards but dont really want to work for it.

I don’t mind the taxis. I mind finding them.

Open the LFG panel at any time, and you’ll see a near endless list of appearing and disappearing LFGs for countless events. Finding a specific one before it fills is extremely difficult.

The LFG needs more categories to split everything out of “Living World”.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

For DS there is really simple solution.
Get a fairly fresh map (2h-1,5h) and start taxi-ing ppl by yourself
You dont really need a commander tag or anything, just know what you are doing and hope that the rest knows as well. Imo DS with randoms is still easier to make than triple trouple with randoms.

The whole taxi thing is just stupid. What a sad statement on the lack of proper design. It’s basically a hack by the players to fix what the devs couldn’t get right. Being forced to taxi was always cheesy, but now it’s just another grind in GrindWars 2

How would you do it right?

Remember that you’re saddled with the basic server architecture. This means there’s a population limit on a zone, and the game produces an overflow when population gets to a certain point. All you can really do is tweak the numbers as to what population has to get to to generate a new map copy; what it has to drop to to start the shut-down process (sending those “want to move?” messages), and when it actually closes that copy. Doing something completely different might well require scrapping years of work on the underlying sub-structures and starting over.

Now, I think there might be room within that system to make adjustments to those numbers to better the situation, but I’m curious whether you actually had an outside-the-box idea.

The district system tech from GW 1 needs to come back in some way. I know the developers have been avoiding it like the plague, but it’s going have to happen at some point. Just like how we needed the LFG system back when GW 2 first released, and that took them a full year to be put back into the game. I am still waiting for two other UI systems that should return in some way from GW 2’s predecessor. Including the guild alliance, and build template systems. However it seems we have to keep improvising till these features/fixes come back into the game. Which of course means that posts on the subject of “taxi player(s) to a specific map instance” is not going to go away anytime soon.

Fundamentally, putting raid-like mechanics in open world content is doomed to failure, as these zone show.

Needing ‘x’ number of players in a coordinated manner was shown by TT to be an abject failure outside of guild-only runs, yet Anet implemented an entire expansion’s worth of said content as the only means for players to get the XP they need to unlock the content gates.

ArenaNet can just solve this by implementing what is already on WvW into PvE, queueing.

Just let us bloody queue to an IP already.

Also, add UI functionality where all active IPs of the player’s current map is displayed in a list, and allow players to switch IPs to the one they want. This is already done in other MMOs. It’s way overdue for GW2.
