Not because I’m concerned that someone will look at my gear and judge my min/maxing or anything like that.

Because not having an Inspect Player feature paves the way to conversations between players.

You see someone, they have an interesting weapon you haven’t seen before or a spectacular helm, or any of their gear and what do you do? You ask.

Great scepter. Do you mind linking it?
Where did you get it?
What color dye are you using on your boots?

And people are open. They love to tell you where they got it, what they had to farm to make it, how they matched the dye on their chest piece to the jewel on their sword or whatever.

The great thing about being part of the GW2 experience is the community. Hand down the best gaming community I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing with. We are all learning together, all the systems, the best ways to do things, where to find the finest items.

Not having an Inspect feature was a brilliant decision by the makers of the game, it meshes perfectly with all the other design decisions (like node sharing/no mob tagging) that builds a great community.

On the other hand, when you go into a dungeon, you cannot see if the other guy is in full MF gear, ripping off the rest of the party.

Guess it depends on what you want.

It’s a game forum. The truth is not to be found here.

I’ll agree with OP. I like the fact that the no inspect feature allows more conversations

Although true, I put the blame on this behavior in the Dev’s hands. If for instance they allowed the magic find to benefit all the players in the party, then it wouldn’t matter so much what a party leech is wearing. As for not having the inspect feature, I too think it is a nice thing and promotes conversations.

but it also stop you from finding out who is wearing MF gear that is gimping the party…
because there is no way to identify them if the have a dps set in their bags to link and not using a sigil of luck

Sucks when you can’t see people’s AR in fractals. I guess if you ask people are open about it.

I didn’t play WOW, know little about it, but I played SWTOR and I found this thing called “inspect”. I was like, wtf is this, that’s stupid, I can just check out everything about someone without them knowing.
I guess being bred on GW1 you think a bit differently to the WOW crowd. I hate that feature, thank Anet t’s not there, I’d much rather have a conversation with someone.

Personally, I could take or leave an ‘Inspect’ feature. I didn’t inspect people often in WoW, because I didn’t actually care what gear people had. You can have the best gear in the game and still fail as a player. I’m more concerned with people being polite, friendly and understand what Dodge does or why standing in the little red circle is bad.

I would like to have inspect back, if only to be sure I don’t get ripped off by noobs wearing full MF. Then again, the existence of MF is to be blamed on the devs, and if inspect would be merely a remedy to problems with MF gear, changing the gear would be the more reasonable way to go I guess.

“Why is it taking so long to kill this boss?”

“oh, that guy is completely naked without a weapon even equipped”

Inspect has its really good points.

And if I like a skin a guy has and want to know what it is, there’s no guarantee he’s going to answer me.
