The recent changes to the daily achievements and UI have been an absolute success. I love logging in and not being forced down a narrow path but “choosing my adventure”. ANet’s slogan came to life!

The new achievements offer far more variety every day and actually make me want to play for the sake of playing rather than just massing laurels and ultimately gear or gold. The feel rewarding, fresh and non-restrictive to me.

The recent UI changes are a stunner. I can now track any achievement or disable the tracker all together. It provides exactly what information I need. No more opening the hero tab and looking for the achievement I wish to do next.

My game experience is indirectly improved because more people seem to do things in the open world that just weren’t as attractive before. People are actually slaying champions and are doing the harder Group Events outside of Queensdale, Keg brawl sees a revive on low pop servers – the list is long.

I especially like these new achievements:

  • Group event Completer and Daily Champion Slayer: Finally mobs get taken down that most people never touched before!
  • Personal Story Completer and Leveler: Finally something that caters for people that enjoy making new characters and play the Personal Story. Fits my play style 100%.
  • Ambient Killer: The most fun so far. I always shoot critters but now there is an extra reason to do so!
  • Karma Spender: Also useful for casuals or people that have alts that may still depend on green items and/or not have reached lvl80 yet. And 750 is really fair given how plentiful Karma is.

My favorite part about this whole thing is that you can actually choose to do or not do certain things. People that like to focus on a single character rather than multiple ones still have enough variety to choose from. Noone is left behind. Noone is forced to do anything.

This is a great feature and I love to see the rest of the new daily achievements!

It took a moment to figure out what “ambient killer” meant, after that it was a breeze. There are a lot less bugs (and bunnies) in Tyria now.

Last night got the full list of nine completed with very little difficulty and actually in a short period of time. To do so, I spent time in WvW, Metrica Province and Orr (level 80 champions make me macho). I hadn’t been to Metrica in quite some time… uh oh… the plan to get people into areas like that just might be starting to work!

Haha, yes! I actually had a tough time finding any at all this morning. I guess the the tyria pest control is very efficient today.

What is special there today regarding the daily? Maybe I missed something

Yes it is much better.. ever since the laurels were introduced the dailies have become very important to complete. Guildies are making sure they do dailies before doing anything with the rest of us which has noticably disrupted socialisation and group play.

Personally, I wish the dailies were either easier or didnt have important currency like laurels. Maybe give us a ‘weekly’ instead which gives 7 laurels.

Dailies were supposed to reward you for playing each day, without it being something you had to pay much attention to. So if you just did normal stuff for an hour, you’d get the daily. This hasn’t been the case. The required tasks are too specific and PvE focused. Which must be a pain for those heavily into WvW. Before laurels missing a daily was no biggie. Now its serious and its affecting gameplay.

So whilst i’m happier with the recent change.. it doesn’t go nearly far enough to resolve the issues with the system.

well it’s ok, still very limited choice and some grind (25 aquatic slayer).

I play some games where you have choice to do 10 dailies from like 50 to 500 possibilities (depends on game), so I don’t feel anything much innovating here.

it could be innovative if we got a list if like 50 possible dailies where we need to choose 5. a list should be perma in this case, and we gonna have a real choice this way. As choose 5/10 is not big choice, IMO

I’m one of those people that can’t help but take out every ambient critter i see, so it was nice to be rewarded for my diligence. My apologies to the bunnies.

I loved the choices last night, got it done pretty fast!

I actually finished this one by accident by buying two recipes while I was getting my tailor up to 400. It’s super easy to do.

I also liked seeing the jumping puzzle completion in the list. I know some folks hate them, but it might get others to check them out that might not have.

Overall, I really appreciate how the changes in this patch (even the unpopular ones) were designed to encourage folks to spread out and try a variety of things.

Glad someone started one of these. I’m liking the variety that I’m seeing so far over the past few days. It’s moved my butt out of sitting in Frostgorge and ‘always’ doing my daily there (or some in WvW) and then getting my 2 ore and 2 wood and logging off.

Between this and the ‘once a day chest’, I’m finding myself meandering around more. Not that I ‘have’ to, but it’s given me an opportunity to take a step back and look at my dailies a bit differently. They tend to just be ‘getting done’ once I pick a few places to go loiter, or bigger things to do.

I’m enjoying spend a lot more time in earlier zones too. Though the little-people starting area still frustrates me to no end, I don’t know why. I think it all comes down to that one POI needing to be accessed by stepping through a portal in Age of Conan (<-hyperbole), but I digress.

I don’t quite understand that because dailies can be completed together? But then again, I mostly play alone.

Personally, I wish the dailies were either easier or didnt have important currency like laurels.

I think they have bumped down the time it takes to complete the daily quite a bit. Take today as an example:

  • Leveler: Shouldn’t take too long. Maybe if you’re really unlucky and you just leveled up before you logged out and only have a single char. For me, it took about 10min.
  • Daily Champion Slayer: In Qdale this will take you 5min.
  • Ambient Killer: How long will it take to kill 30 critters? Maybe 5min?
  • Karma Spender: Instant.
  • Daily Gatherer: Also just a few minutes.

So today maybe 15 to 20min? If you’re really pushing it …

Dailies were supposed to reward you for playing each day, without it being something you had to pay much attention to.

They were supposed to be like this – before there was a daily rotation. But now they give you a (different) little fun challenge every day. I actually prefer the latter.

Actually, I got most of them done in WvW… well… three or four (most of the required five, not most of the actual nine). What was it… veterans, kills, dolyak kills… man, they’re overlapping in my head with the prior day as to what I did there… but they’re not all that WvW unfriendly. You will likely need to leave WvW to get all five, but only briefly.

Funny….

my guildy’s often do them after, or in fact we do some runs see our dailys are almost done and than complet them together. this also nets us more influance.

as for WvW that patch is next month lets see what happens.

I was under the impression that I would get to pick from a list of all the different dailies each day. Not out of the ones they allotted for the day.

I had stopped doing my daily until they introduced the laurel. I know they want us to be out in the “Open World” but having a few dailies that required a dungeon path or completing a fractal would be a little more fun than killing rabbits…

When you have limited amount of hours to play like I do you would like to play the content you would like to play. I know nothing is stopping me from doing so but I would like to have the items I want as well.

TL/DR
It sure would be nice to have more advance dailies so that veteran players could do some of the more challenging content while doing their daily.

Dungeon paths, fractals and even wvw have been included in the monthlies in the past. It would be kinda silly to have the same tasks in both daily and monthly achievements.

Also. Dungeons normally include lots of enemies (Daily Slayer), veterans & champions and even events. So you now actually can do your daily entirely in a dungeon.

I love the new daily system as well.

I hate that ascended gear is attached to the laurel based time gate.
