I'm Level 40 and I Can't Die
Let me duel you and i’m going to kick your kitten :P
pve bro =) spvp is crazy challenging as people are getting better and figuring out their profs.
You picked yourself the wrong class to be constantly on the verge of death. The guardian is known for it’s excellent survival rate.
im having a blast smashing things with my hammer/mace/focus guardian. it’s so much fun. unfortunately, my healthbar doesnt really seem to move. i think i just aggroed a dozen svanir 1 level higher than me and my health didnt budge.
i wear my tier 1 cultural set and i have a rare hammer. im specced for power/precision, with a tiny bit of vitality. i have about 5k health at this point.
Please ANet, bring some challenge into the PVE. i love those moments when im fighting for my life, dodging, interrupting, blocking, healing back up. but theyre getting much more rare as my gear gets better it seems. the pve in this game is amazing, but please address the DE scaling and overall difficulty.
First thing to mention is that mobs will definitely get harder as you level higher. Second thing, if you really want a challenge, why stay in a zone with mobs one level above you? Move to another and fight mobs 3-4 levels higher.
Rerrol a Necromancer and tell me if you will have such fun.
Might need to search for higher level mobs. I typically look for mobs 2-4 levels higher on my Ranger, Guard and Warrior. Not so much on thief…but thats probably just me learning how to use the sneaky lil class.

But when ANET fix the Brain damage of our minions we will rock!
i guess it makes sense to fight mobs 4 levels higher (ive tried mobs 3 levels higher with zero issues), but this doesnt really feel like natural progression. i feel if im lvl 40 in a 40-50 zone, i’ll be doing the lvl 40-41 quests for sake of completion/story. why am i allowed to faceroll through those?
just out of curiosity, do you guys feel the overall pve difficulty (poor DE scaling against large groups aside) is in a good place? i feel it was harder in one of the earlier bwe’s and i loved it.
in addition, harder pve content on the way to 80 would naturally slow down the rate at which people hit 80, making it more of a big deal because getting downleveled from 80 with exotics to, say, lvl 40 makes the difficulty trivial as well. you’re 2-3 shotting mobs and not really losing any health. is it possible to nerf downleveled players?

Well guardian is the “meatiest” of all the classes, so as mentioned above maybe try different class? I don’t know what else to say, as while things may be easy for your guardian, there are a number of complaints with other classes that they really struggle at times in PvE. If they outright increased the difficulty of every mob, there would be a fairly large outcry from the not so balanced classes.

Not really. I’m pretty sure our health is around caster level. We make up for it with virtues, but without those, we’d be kinda dead a lot. Not so much “meaty” as “magically augmented.”

ah ok. cuz im leveling an engie and mesmer as well (the more challenging profs), and im facerolling low level content as well. maybe it’s just me?
maybe it’s just me?
This might be more accurate than you think. Really, the classes don’t define the difficulty of this game so much as the skill of the player.

well i still feel like my guardian is way too tough. my gear is some of the best for that level, but i my health bar SHOULD move at times >.<

There is no way for ANet to judge the abilities of any given player. Their age, infirmities etc… so, IMO, most MMO’s seem to alway be the easiest playing at con.
What you are steamrolling through might be a real challenge for a 9 yr old. But that youngster is as much a paying customer as the rest of us are. Except, as adults, we can adjust our own gameplay to the level of challenge we desire.

Go do a dungeon. I guarantee your health bar will move.
Try that with a thief.
Ur health bar will drop to 0 once u blinked ur eye.
I really don’t get this place. One day someone comes crying about how squishy guardians are and how they totally need an HP buff. Then some others come telling us that guardian is pretty awesome. Make up your minds already! :p
Wait…you make a GUARDIAN and then compain you have too much survivability?

oh yeah, i did AC a few times. had a blast, was very challenging. im talking about the open world strictly.

no, im giving feedback. im saying my guardian’s health bubble doesnt move. is it a bug
>.< ?

PvE is plenty challenging for me, thankyouverymuch! >.< Those “moments” you describe are not that rare in my PvE experience on my main, and I would be a very unhappy camper if it got even harder.
It sounds like you are probably a more skilled player than I, but might I suggest you try an Elementalist, aside from the Engineer and Mesmer you’ve already tried? Best of luck finding the challenge you want!
Your using the most defensive weapon sets. Mace/Focus is unkillable you literaly have 4 shields + 1 blind + regen of course you will never die. Switch to sword/torch and you health bar might move.
Wait till you go to Orr…Alone.
Now roll something that isn’t guardian, a class widely known for being GW2’s answer to the Terminator.
My experience was that the mobs got a little harder at 30, again at 50, a bit more at 60 – then significantly harder at 70 and 75.
If you stay on top of your build and gear, you’ll be fine – but soloing on Orr is dangerous.
lol this thread is hilarious. maybe some specs need to be somehow nerfed in pve then?
I solo just fine in Orr. I usually try and pull 4 at a time with my greatsword/hammer build, and rarely die. a smart build and a little skill goes a long way in this game.
Rerrol a Necromancer and tell me if you will have such fun.
My wells necro does just fine

haha I like this one.
i may have found a solution. i am now engaging mobs 6 levels higher than me. i still believe downleveled characters need to be majorly nerfed. it’s a serious issue when i try to go back in the world to complete content and im 2-shotting mobs.

Same. And if a couple more come I handle it – but I also take a moment to make sure there aren’t any roaming packs I’m going to agro while doing it, and that I’m not moving in an area with a fast respawn.
I tend to take on veterans one or two at a time though.
I also think it might be your weapon choices.
I have a Guardian, at the moment I am playing greatsword/staff because I am only lvl 10 and still unlocking my weapons (holy kitten but they have a lot!) and I find that I die a lot on those.
I’m still learning the class mechanics though.
My favourite is sceptre -focus / greatsword atm.
But having said that, I easily play 3-4 lvls above mine with the Guardian.
Now my main is a lvl50 Mesmer and I do feel very mean on her but she struggles with 3-4 lvl higher content especially if she gets cornered by 4-5 mobs.
One on one she rules.
I do find that if I played my Guardian for any length of time and switch back to my Mesmer I have some repair bills coming- the Guardian makes me less sneaky and more in your face- a bad bad move for a Mesmer
mesmer and guard <3 also my fav profs. strange that i enjoy they style of both equally.
I have an Elementalist and his natural state appears to be downed.
So I’m getting a kick out of this.
The guardian is pretty tough, at level 70 I was taking on mobs 5 ot 6 levels above me while face tanking.
Now roll something that isn’t guardian, a class widely known for being GW2’s answer to the Terminator.
Actually that would be commando.
But yes, I suppose Guardian can fill that role for now.
THis thread is funny because guardians have I think the lowest health pool.

cant tank in this so no you where not face tanking.
Meet: Dungeons!
Trust me, there are flimsier professions out there. If I wrote your paragraph, it would read like this:
“I’m having a real blast burning things to death with my fire staff Elementalist. It’s so much fun. Unfortunately, my health bar drains like a glass of Guinness in an Irish pub on St Patrick’s Day. I think I just aggroed two hyenas at the same level as me and my health bar just disappeared before I saw the first one bite me. The second one didn’t bother attacking, and just stood by and laughed as his friend mauled me.
I wear run of the mill PVE gear and have a pretty decent, but right cool to look at, level 31 steam staff. I’m specced fairly evenly, with a strong emphasis on survivability. I have a little over 3k health at this point.
Please ANet, I think that’s plenty of challenge in the PVE already. I love those moments when I’m fighting for my life, dying, dodging, dying, burning, dying, healing back up, dying, throwing AOE, dying, checking my map, dying. But dying is getting much more frequent as the mobs gets better. It seems the pve in this game is amazing, but my coffers are draining from death taxes."
I kid a bit. I don’t die quite that much. Just feels like it. But I do enjoy that “just made it feeling” which, for me, is the challenge.

Lv50 Guardian fighting half a dozen mobs 6 levels higher than me. Feels nice
TBH once I bought a rare set at 50 on my Necro, I was able to take on groups of 3-4 a few levels above me, no problem. Approaching lvl 60 soon for another set. My whole time leveling up the only deaths I experience were always from random adds that popped up at the worst time, especially underwater where I have no wells. It always felt like a cheap death.
PvP is another story.=)
I have a lv80 Necromancer, lv10 Thief, lv 10 Elementalist and a lv 10 Guardian.
Necromancers can kite for ages and have a boatload of Health but deal very bad damage.
Guardians can just live forever at low levels areas but need to melee or play support to be effective.
Thieves deal insane damage but they get downed very fast.
Elementalist deals nice AoE damage and is made out of glass…
Sometimes I’m afraid that sneezing at my screen kills him.
As you get further in the game monsters start hitting harder and have all sorts of abilities.

+ 10000
hahahahahaha! I have a lvl 12 Ele and I wish I could rename her Fainting Maiden!
Unfortunately she is my chef and I don’t want to start over on that so I leave her for now until I have the patience to play nursemaid or until I can afford a mouse with more buttons

By face tanking I mean standing there taking damage without dodging or even moving. Also tanking = absorbing damage so yeah there is tanking in this game it just cant be done for any length of time on the real mobs (champions, dungeon mobs, bosses).
