It is set to English, that’s why most Germans can’t see me
Language filter turned on by default.
I believe they will see if you whisper them. At least I had success that way.

Well, turn it off…
Well, turn it off…
The other players have it turned on by default of the game, most of them don’t know that, there is nothing the OP can do.

If a whisper doesn’t work perhaps an email.
There’s a language filter? Wha?
There’s a language filter? Wha?
Since megaserver. People on underflow maps didn’t want to see people chatting in “foreign” languages on the EU servers.

Only it fails terribly because it’s a client filter not language XD.
And should have had an IN game notice about it.
you wouldn’t want a notice to pop up every time you say ‘lfg’ (in english) saying that the spanish gamers can’t see you. the game wouldn’t know who you are trying to talk to.
I guess I just assumed it filted by what language the text was, but now that I think about it, that would be some pretty impressive programming. aside from changing the language you have your game set to, I can’t think of a fix you can do for this.
as a suggestion for the devs: how about different chat commands? like: “/e” posts in english, “/g” posts in german, etc. less drastic than changing your game’s language every time you want to post in different language filters.

You don’t use the guild chat much, right? ;D
But the idea is quite good, have chat tags for the languages supported by GW2, just like we have for emote, map, guild and so on.

or just turn filter off by default , and make using it optional
problem is most ppl dont know that filter exists let alone how to it off

They changed the default setting for EotM. And tbh, turning it on by default did make a lot of sense in the first few weeks. You wouldn’t believe the amount of (mostly) German whine you got in map chat. Now that the dust has settled, they could probably change the default setting to ‘off’, and hardly anyone would care.
The biggest problem is that even if you want to turn it off it’s hard to find.
I didn’t even know the chat window had it’s own options menu until this thing came along. I wanted to turn it off as soon as I logged in after the update, but I looked all through the main options menu and couldn’t find it. In the end I had to wait until someone from my guild came on and could tell me where to find it.
As other people have said unless they read the forum or saw the one news post about it most players will never even know it’s there. They’ll just think a lot of people on megaserver maps never says anything.
I was really hoping it was just a temporary fix to the ridiculous number of people (of all nationalities) complaining that they had to see other languages in chat and would be replaced with something better soon but it looks like that’s not going to happen.
Which is a shame, although I can completely understand (and support) wanting to play with people you can speak to fluently most of the time I’ve also had some really fun multi-lingual conversations.

well of course it will take some months to fix it and you know why ? because only EU has that problem….US are all talking in english CHINA are all talking in chinese ( i guess)…i think they maybe didnĀ“t even think that such a problem , with different languages in same map chat woud happen because in their mindset it was allways for the US where such a problem wound not happen
ps: i was once a helpfull person, now i never answer in mapchat because i have a german client and everytime i answer on english i get ignored and thats annoying

Now I’m going to have to go turn the filter off and see what map chat is like in megaserver mode. Maybe I’ll learn something.
Heck, being on Darkhaven, which is home to many Brazilian players, I have already learned that “HUEHUEHUE” in Portuguese means “HUEHUEHUE” in English.
