Is it just a boring grind to 80 before you can get to the pvp part of the game? I’m really bored with questing :/

There are two types of PvP in the game, SPvP and WvW. SPvP you’ll be on an even level with anyone else, but not so in WvW. You’ll have your stats leveled to 80, but you won’t have your traits unlocked in WvW.

If you SPvP you get tomes as a reward which give you full levels.

Structured PvP has reward tracks that can give you tomes of knowledge that can increase your level. Whether or not you get the tomes quicker depends on how often you win your matches. I don’t recommended WvW for levelling though in that you would hardly stand a chance there even when your level is maxxed to 80 when stepping foot there, unless you want to go to the Edge of the Mists where it’s ideal for power-levelling but that depends if you got a good commander or guide to help you there (usually found with a colored dorito over his head)

You can do both PvP (groups of 5, playing capture the point) and World vs. World (large scale, cross-server PvP fighting for control of various structures on the map) from the moment you finish the introduction and hit level 2.

I can’t remember what level the shortcut icons on the screen appear (they’re hidden at first to avoid “confusing” new players) but you can use keyboard shortcuts to open them (B for WvW, no default for PvP but you can set one).

Alternatively go to your race’s home city (ask for directions in map chat if you haven’t been there yet, it’s right by where you started), go through the pink swirly portal to Lion’s Arch and then through the portals in Fort Marriner on the southern edge of the map. Those take you to WvW and the PvP hub (Heart of the Mists).

In PvP everyone is level 80, has all their skills and traits unlocked and has the same level of equipment. In WvW you’re scaled to level 80 but otherwise your character is the same, so you will be at a bit of a disadvantage but as long as you run with the group you should be ok.

Oh and as mentioned PvP will award you tomes of knowledge you can use to level up.

If you hate leveling in PvE (which most people do after Anet made some huge changes to how leveling up works) then you can always just play sPvP and level up that way. That’s what I do these days. I play sPvP and all the ‘tomes of knowledge’ (gives you 1 level up on consumption) I get from doing sPvP I’ll save up to level up my character.

In sPvP you’ll automatically be on par with everyone else. You’ll be lvl 80 and you’ll have access to the same PvP amulets as everyone else (in PvP your PvE gear doesn’t matter, you’ll get your stats from the PvP amulet you’re wearing).

Actually the shortcut keys don’t work for new accounts. You either have to level high enough on one char or go through the LA portals to unlock WvW and PvP for that account. After it’s unlocked, then the shortcut keys work.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

there’s another way. If someone queues with you, it pulls you into the lobby. And then you can just live there until you have 80 tomes of knowledge.
