Honestly. I’ve been 80 for a couple of weeks and have started going back to exploring, some dungeons and the GREAT jumping puzzles. But I find myself bored. I don’t feel like I’ve attained anything special and perhaps that’s the point?

If so I’m not liking the idea much. Why change things that we’re broke? I’m all for new ways of doing thing but some things don’t need any change in their basic structure.
Let’s take dungeons. People strive for things – like rewards not simply for ‘doing something’. That’s silly and everyone knows it. That’s like running the Indy 500 and not getting a prize just a pat on the back "good job feel good but sorry no prize for your time. Sorry that doesn’t cut it.

Going back trying to do Dynamic Events etc I find them not that interesting because those XP points just don’t mean the same when not leveling. That’s just the nature of the game I suppose but that still doesn’t stop one from feeling it’s generally a waste of time. At least scale my loot since I am level 80 and not 30 say. It costs me more to way-point there and back than any loot I’m attaining. I think the world is beautiful – please don’t make it sterile to max level. I like the scaling down I just don’t like making it worthless and kinda boring doing so.

5-mans work great with people who know what they’re doing – but how often is that the case when they’re brutal when you don’t? Or having to pug? As everyone knows not everyone is so endowed with knowledge and you can spend a lot of time being killed and the cost quickly drains you unless you gem/gold exchange.
I don’t believe 5-mans hold anything in any other game for end game PvE alone. If that other game based it on their 5 man dungeons they wouldn’t have much to talk about in comparison to GW2.

So other than exploring, crafting etc what exactly is there in GW2 even over GW1 in terms of so-called end-game content? I’m just see people saying there really isn’t any in the traditional sense and that this feeling is my fault. But you see I want MORE of this amazing game it’s just that there’s not much to do other than 5 mans and I don’t want to be boxed into those as my ‘only’ level 80 content worth doing as a real grouped encounter. I don’t care for WvW or pvp in general – I’m talking about PvE.

Honestly I think ArenaNet needs to think about missions. At least those were still pretty fun prior to heros at least as an alternative to only 5 content.

A lot of these issues can be alleviated with a redesign of “end game” rewards. I’ve said it before, and I seriously hope Anet realizes this:

- Karma needs to be account bound. How sweet would it be to use Karma for another character instead of letting it rot on one character?
- Karma rewards should include exotic weapons
- Karma rewards need to have all stat sets available
- Dungeon rewards need to have all stat sets available
- Crafted items need to have all stat sets available
- WvW badge rewards need to have all stat sets available
- Dungeon Tokens need to be universal (with a token lockout system for running the same path too many times in a day). Why Dungeon tokens were dungeon specific in the first place is rather baffling.

Efficient doesnt mean “just getting on with it” though. It means youve thought out a plan to complete the content within the shortest time possible and with the least risk.

Which means you pretty much rushed through it.

You know, I pretty much agree with you 100%. I’ve been playing since the very first beta weekend, nonstop, and reached level 80 about a week after release. I still enjoy logging to pvp, WvW, and level alts, but I cannot help but feel slightly bored with the game as a whole. Also, I never really rushed my leveling either as I was playing with my brother and friends of ours. I just had a lot of time schedule’d off for release to play.

Like I said, the game is still amazing to me but after getting full exotic gear(not hard at all) there really isn’t all that much left to do. Sure I can go PvP for PvP gear, but thats all just for looks. I am a very aesthetic person so I love to make my characters look pro in as many ways as possible. However, that only goes so far. Right now, it feels like me getting full exotics wasn’t exactly worth it as there isn’t much(if any) content that requires it. I know this isn’t a treadmill game and thats fine, but I feel like there isn’t all that much left to do once you hit 80.

I know many people will hate this suggestion so ill put my flame suit on for this but, perhaps adding in raids as one of the ways to obtain exotic level gear, wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Im talking a max of 10, not the 20-40 type. After doing a particular boss fight in the Arah explore mode dungeon(The one that REALLY stands out from the rest), I truly believe raids could really work in this game. Don’t misunderstand, I do NOT want the endless treadmill that other MMOs put into their endgame. I’m asking for yet another way to obtain full exotic gear.(There at least 3-4 different ways to do it currently.) In other words, you would NOT be required to do raids at all to reach the best gear possible in the game. This way, those who want to participate in 10 man raids, could do so, and those who do not wish to raid, would not be limited to a subpar tier of gear.

Excuse me, since when do you decide how to “properly” play this game?

After playing with a friend that basically was incapable of properly tagging mobs for hearts/DE’s, finding the actual content on her map, or failing story missions repeatedly without help, I’ve realized just how it takes someone an insane amount of time to accomplish anything in this game. They’re just freaking slow. End of story. Just because you’re slow doesn’t mean you’re doing it “properly”.

All of this aside, the speed in which someone hits 80 has absolutely nothing to do with the poor quality of content and reward systems that are in the game. Getting to 80 slowly doesn’t somehow magically make the content better. Something that’s unfun will remain unfun, I know it’s shocking.

You blew through 300 hours of content in 3 weeks? And you paid how much for it?

I’m a little over casual player and I managed to get to lv80 in 100hours, I don’t see how is getting to lv80 a 300hours worth of content. I didn’t rush through everything. What I merely did was explore regions, get all the Points of Interests, get all the Vistas, get all the waypoints and complete all tasks. My 100hours of gameplay also includes getting a crafting skill to lv314, nearly completing the storyline quests (at recommended lv77 now), doing most of the events that pops up to me when I was exploring, and completing most of the dungeons story mode.

If your 300hours worth of content includes 200hours worth of idling around, chatting to people on Map, Guild and Party chat, accumulating 2hrs worth of /dance, admiring exotic loots at dungeon merchants, changing the dyes of your clothes every 30mins, killing every white-named mob in sight and running to areas because waypoints are too expensive, then yes, maybe it is a 300hours worth of content. Believe me, I did all those I mentioned above and my total accumulated play time is only a little above 300hours.
I have a lv80 Thief, lv44 Mesmer, lv15 Warrior and a lv2 Elementalist (which I use for PvP)

I don’t blame anyone who likes to take their time, but I still do not see how getting to lv80 is a 300hours worth of content.

As regards to the original post,
I agree that ANet needs to add more content into GW2, however, you do know that this is a newly released game. What ANet really needs to do RIGHT NOW, is to fix up all the bugs and adjust every issue that is of major concern BEFORE attempting to add new content.

My issue with the current GW2 right now is that many dungeon runs, based on their difficulty setting, are not rewarding enough, especially with the recent update.

-RANT-
The Magg run in CoF has become more difficult for me, why? Because of 1 main reason: the event right before the 2nd chest.
When Magg plants the bomb, a timer will start to countdown (or rather count up, from 0% to 100%) and a number of mobs will spawn. My party and I are tasked to defend Magg, but we are unable to do so because of 2 things:

1) The mobs are extremely painful (to me especially) and tough to kill
I see myself taking up to 2k damage in less than 2 seconds, and my health is only 12k, being a Thief. This drives us to resort to using ourselves as live bait for the mobs and kiting them until Magg is done planting his “Kaboomium”.

2) At every 10% (in around 15s), 3 more mobs will spawn.

Sure ANet, “tries to fix this” by lengthening the timer but it still doesn’t help because my party and I are unable to kill one mob in 15seconds, let alone 3 mobs. After 15second, the counter hits a 10% mark and 3 more mobs will spawn, which are equally painful and tough.

By lengthening the timer, ANet, you’re only lengthen our pain of kiting the mobs around, NOT giving us more time to kill the mobs. Weaken the mobs if you have to.

And I have to do all this, including the rest of the dungeon for a small amount of tokens (30 or 20) to get a piece of armor which costs 330tokens (the most expensive) and 180tokens (the least expensive).

Nonsense. Everything in this game gives you XP. After 40 or 50 hours I was level 80 without even trying.

Just to give an idea, I have 271 hours played over a level 80, a level 27, a 16, and a 2, including a lot of time in sPvP.

Oh god, this again.

Guys, if you do not like actually playing the game, getting more rewards won’t help.

We all have things we do in life that we don’t like, but we do them anyway because we get a reward. We call those things JOBS.

This is meant to be your hobby. If the best thing you can think of to do with your hobby is to turn it into a job that gives you virtual rewards, then you might want to find another game to play, or another hobby entirely.

Hey how about trying to achieve all the mission objectives with the bonuses? Oh wait…

But how about doing those missions in hard mode? Oh…

But we can always do fun Deep or Urgoz expeditions with 12 guildies? Nevermind…

Maybe we should do Underworld or Fissure of Woe? Many fun subquests and good rewards, but wait…

Hold on a sec, just checking out my shiny guild hall.

Ok back, I know it! We should form a group and make up our own strategies. Then we should enter organised PvP and join HA tournaments, leading our group through many objective based modes and fight other guilds in very tactical GvG battles. Yeah…

Oh well, lets play a dungeon and hack away for 2 minutes on a trash mob every two steps we take. Maybe after 50 repetitions of that process we get some shiny suit of armor. Sounds like a ton of fun.

Wow, really?

In the first ten suggestions of that list is included one about collecting a set of armor from all 8 dungeons in the game.

Grind much?

Having mindless grinds left to do does not equate to good content available left at lvl 80. Guild Wars was supposed to get away from that, not force feed it to us as the “only thing available”.

This is the very reason i have been “prolonging” my Warrior to max level. Leveling in this game is actually quite fast. Everything gives you XP. Once i reached 60, I did 5 levels just by doing some crafting and some farming.

I also currently have a level 22 Ele, Lvl 36 Engi, Level 2 Guardian (obviously havent played it past the tutorial mission), and lvl 22 Necro. Im mainly just trying to level my Engi now.

Its completely understandable that you would be bored though. At 80, theres nothing to do other than gear grind, complete world, and WvW if you enjoy it. Spvp, you can do from level 1 so it doesnt count.

That said, i think Anet should get to fixing and adding/tweaking functionality to core game features first before adding new content. I would love for a mission board though. Kind of off topic, but i really miss the days where you being grouped with your friends actually mattered.

I want to state right off that I really really really love this game. I said the word ‘amazing’ so much leveling that all my guildies we’re making fun of me but I honestly and blown away at all the little details.

So the last thing that I want anyone especially ArenaNet to think that I am in anyway bashing the game for what it is now. It’s just I can’t help the way I feel. I’m simply being honest. I want to be able to log on and think I’m earning something more because of my time.

GW1 provided me with a couple of years worth of entertainment. I still have 10 characters and log on every now and then still. I don’t recall feeling really bored with the game until 2007 and when all those people in chat looking for a group morphed into a number 8 over their heads and running with their heros through all the content.

I never minded spec’ing a certain way to get a run done. That’s no different than most other games. But you all have to admit that everything is kinda generic in terms of trait choices. As an example, my guardian pretty much is geared all yellow/orange and wielding a shield with traits fully for support (Valor/Honor) yet other than some front end damage I don’t see it doing better for the group as a whole than going all condition based. Maybe it’s just me and my history healing and tanking in GW1 and WoW. My question is what’s wrong with being able to really tank or heal IF I choose to? Not all of us consider it bland to provide such in a dungeon. In GW one I played a mana battery on my Necro. I didn’t think that was boring I reveled in being able to provide my service for the group.

So again – I’m not bashing I’m simply stating how I feel. I absolutely love this game even if I’m not 100% satisfied all all respects and this is understandable of course.

ArenaNet I believe will listen to the majority and who knows if some of my ideas fall in that category. But remaining silent just isn’t what I’m about. I’m not going anywhere either – I gave up 5 years of another gaming history to be here because after all is said and done I’m still having more fun than sitting on my mount in some main city reading trade chat while not raiding.

Peace

I hate to say it, but the boredom you’re experiencing is basically working as intended. The reason subscription MMOs get people to play their game for thousands of hours is mostly because of better obtainable content. Better gear, higher crafting levels, more skills, higher level caps, etc. All the fun comes from the sense of achievement you get from obtaining these rewards.

Now if you look at games from a single player standpoint they don’t have that same life-grip on you. Single player RPGs or adventure games you play through them for the storyline, do all the sidequests and things you find, and then you win and the game ends. It was a really enjoyable experience while it lasted but that’s really where all the content ends.

I only play GW2 with my friends because that’s where the enjoyment for me comes from. There’s no desire for me to log on a ton of hours or even at all by myself. Even if I felt the same sense of achievement and this game had a gear treadmill I would have no desire to participate in it.

TL;DR – be glad it’s not a subscription game. You got more gameplay out of this game already than you would have out of the majority of $60 launch titles.

In most games- you slog through the levelling grind to get to the good stuff at the end- this game, it’s all the same, there’s nothing better at the end. So, if you ever find the game itself boring- not talking the loot rewards- then just leave, nothing changes at any point.

People strive for things – like rewards not simply for ‘doing something’. That’s silly and everyone knows it. That’s like running the Indy 500 and not getting a prize just a pat on the back "good job feel good but sorry no prize for your time. Sorry that doesn’t cut it.

The rather obvious difference being running the Indy 500 is their job, a game is for entertainment as such there is no comparision.

It is pretty simple if the game play is fun then play the game, if not find another game, if you are merely playing a game for “rewards” such as better stats for you non-existant pixels, then you’d be better off getting rewards in real life.
