In a purely visual sense.

Around Charr areas we see huge rolling tanks and artillery emplacements. Asura use huge lasers and accelerator weaponry.

Siege golems are a nod to this, but otherwise i don’t quite understand why all other WvW siege looks so medieval?

It has always bothered me that players are not able to control + drive the vehicles that the charr are able to operate.

I would, at very least, like to see a minigame involving the vehicles…. (either a race or a demolition derby, etc.)

In edge of the mists there are new types of player + siege interactions….. such as siege devourers.

Maybe adding the charr vehicles to WvW is somewhere on the horizon.

you know, that is a very good point!
would love a tank. maybe one person drives, one person shoots, etc.
a plane would be fun
you got a point: why ballista but not a cannon?

A remnant of times past.

I agree on the subject of primitive siege but in Grenth’s name let’s not forget boats. Seriously guys. I’m talking about every wooden boat/ship that exists in Tyria amongst so much more technilogically advanced machines and it is just baffling:

- Charr war machines
- Asuran lasers/golems/magical energies
- underwater labs consisting of crazy portals/heavy machinery
- those floating ships/Zephyrite/Pact airship balloons
- Scarlet Briar’s big kitten flippin’ Breach Maker drill for crying out loud
- Intricately detailed Watchwork monsters
- somewhat advanced looking Dredge machinery
- that one interesting Charr submarine

And then we still have/use wooden ships… Seriously. SERIOUSLY. No wonder you see half of then all ruined and washed up on shore.

I wanna see some heavy duty Charr-themed war ship made outta metals and stuff like you see amongst the Black Citadel!

We really do need more flexible golems.

Golem+Arrow Cart+Ballista+Flame Ram in the Mystic Forge should create a blueprint for a golem with a long range ballista on one arm, flamethrower on the other and shoulder-mounted arrow carts.

The technology exists, make it happen.

Cost and available supply. Golems are made of stone, and siege are made of wood. I’m going to assume those come in abundance in the WvW maps, while metal and fuel to forge metal, are not.

Think about it: the only place that have ‘mines’ are the dredge in EB, and they are not always on friendly terms with players. But when they are, then they got their turrets popping up.

IT would be a lot cheaper, faster, and efficient to use supplies that are readily available in WvW, than to ship it over via Asura gates.

Because the Humans are the favorite of the gods and the Humans only have primitive stuff at the very best, it’s also why they lost Ascalon to the Charr. Humans are the underdog in Tyria. The Myst Wars are to curry the favor of the gods, since the gods like Humans the best the Mysts are designed for humans.

I think the Mysts should have been designed with keeps from each of the races instead of a world vs world type of thing and been more race vs race.

Because it’s easier to throw together a ballista than it is to throw together a big laser weapon or a huge rolling tank.

Bearing in mind, of course, that Asura, for example, are probably a minority in the racial spread of the game in general. That means that if you were to have a big laser weapon to build, then it would be built by Humans, Sylvari, Norn, and Charr as well. Mostly humans, probably. And while the tech does exist somewhere in the world, it does not exist in the human part of the world, making it harder for them to build something they’re entirely unfamiliar with. Ballistae, catapults, and arrow carts are “primitive” enough that each species would be familiar with either how to build it or the concepts behind it.

If someone gave you a pile of relevant materials and told you to craft a ranged weapon to kill someone who was going to come at you in 5 minutes, would you be more likely to fashion a functioning shotgun or quickly put together a bow?
