Hmm…these seem to be getting worse…

Maguuma jungle veterans: no idea where to find any. Wonder around map for 5 minutes doing nothing but looking – then see people hanging around a spot. Not something I consider ‘fun’ or a useful use of my time.

Dungeon completion: nope, not going to happen.

Gain a level: could probably do that one by playing for an hour, without having to go way out of my way to achieve it.

Krytan missions: another run around the map or hope someone in a map calls out an event and you get to it before it finishes and you get the reward.

Daily kills: easy

Crafter: yep

gather: yep

Kill 5 bessies in WVW: possible, if you can reach any of them before someone else does or the enemies that know this is now a daily and kill anyone not in a zerg. Otherwise, more running around to little effect as unless it spawns at a camp that is unguarded and you can manage to kill one.

I’ve lost the will to log in to GW2. Every time I do I’m reminded that they are still to fix the many things wrong with the professions and skills, karma is a waste of space and they keep inventing more ‘currencies’ and ‘items’ that are not tradeable in an effort to keep the ‘active’ player numbers up.

The only daily i went out of my way for was the vets which there is a mini dungeon the C Forest that has nothing but vets in it. also near the TA WP are in fact vets. Lots of vets if you know where to look.

The events was a joke, completed in 5 mins. I really enjoy the dailies now since i am no longer stuck in a routine to do them in the quickest. I finish the day before with out even trying. I love the new dailies. Way easyer to do t hem than before

Didn’t appreciate the Maguuma vets thing at all, forced to an area from where I was playing (at least I could get there free). That being said, it wasn’t hard.
Go to Metrica Provicnce , Thaumonova Reactor.
I did three vets inside there. Probably more, but I left when I got the 3rd. It has tons of quick respawns of a variety of enemies to, daily kill was quick. It would be easy to get the different type of enemies daily too, since there are so many.

The vet one is extremely easy actually, assuming you have access to sparkfly. If you don’t, tough. The new dailies are designed to encourage you to go to different areas.

Honestly so far the dailies since I started playing again have been hilariously easy, hell even this monthly is.

I like the new dailies, they make you spread out around the world.

I do wish they introduce some harder dailies options with a chance at more laurels. Things like Kill 5 champions, get an extra Laurel. Would be awesome. Would encourage grouping.

It would go a long way to making the process of gearing 8 characters less impossible.

What was wrong with the dailies the way they were?

Exactly this. As a casual player, I use to get the bulk of my dailies done just by playing the game. However, now, if I want to get my dailies done, I end up loosing money due to the need to now port all over the place. So if I am limited on time, instead of just logging on for a bit and having fun while doing the daily, I might as well not log on at all and save some money at the same time.

These new dailies are simply a shameless attempt at drawing people back into dead zones. All it achieves is getting people to waste money to go there for a few minutes to finish up their daily.

What happened to playing the way we want? I use to be able to play the way I want and get daily done without a problem, now I am forced to go into areas I don’t really care about and do things I do not want to just so I can get my daily done.

You can hover over the task (Maguuma Vet slayer) and it tells you the areas to go.

Really, the dailies are not hard and most things get done just with regular playing.

Still don’t like it? The just don’t do it, you gain nothing that is game changing by doing them.

I do them because I think its fun and it sets a small goal…not that hard really.

I get your point, we’ve been spoiled/weakened from past Daily experiences.

For example:

Magumma Vets – Even if you don’t know… people will learn where though and that is good. Gets us around the map some, learning some. If it were like this day one, I feel you would have been ok with it. But since we had it easier… I get it. But I think we maybe better off this way, sense of adventure stuff.

Dungeon Completion- LOL, I agree. I wanted to remind Dev’s a lot of us are not happy with this content. Thanks for allowing me to share that one more time!

Gain a Level – Ok, no big.

Krytan Mission – Again it gets you out and around the map some more. See first reply.

Daily Kills – This is one of the stupid simple one’s. We’ve been babied.

Crafter – As you say, same.

Gatherer – As you say, same.

Kill 5 Beasts in WvW – Again they just want us to get out and use the world a bit more. Now taking PvE’ers to a PvP area, is always questionable though. But at least we have it as an option and not a requirement. So I’m good.

The one’s you found easy were the old one’s and they were easier. You didn’t have to go anywhere special, they just happened most of the time by just doing your thing. My guess is they are trying to get us moving around different parts of the map more. I applaud that, not saying this is thee best way. But it’s a start, I get the logic.

I think before this is what they were before the 26. Feb patch. And that was a problem.

The dailies used to be something that just happened when you logged in and played. They happened naturally.

Thankfully, this is what they (almost) are now. You can log in and play get your first categories completed and than see what is missing (e.g. today I got 3/5 from one fractals run). Dungeons give events and kills so if I log in and play a dungeon I get a small extra reward.

I agree that some categories a better that other.

I didn’t try Maguuma jungle veterans because I know it would be hard to find them. But since the update I don’t need to do it. So what’s the problem?

I have leveled a small army of characters, I have been through the map, I have completed these areas several times over, I do not want to go back to these areas, again and again. The events give less karma and money than higher level areas and the drops from mobs are terrible, so all I am doing is wasting my time.

Like I said before, just a shameless attempt to bring people back to these areas. Instead of making it worth going back there, it just gets tossed in as a daily. No one is actually going back there with the intention of playing in that area outside of doing their daily, other than the ones that where planning to go there anyway.

So in my opinion it is a terrible tactic and doesn’t accomplish anything other than artificially increasing the player statistics for those areas seeing as more people are going there for a few min each day now.

TheBlueI.3486

For one, not all dungeons give events, and secondly, fractals never counted as a dungeon before, so how on earth did you get 3/5 only doing fractals?

Unless you started as a character below level 80 the only option that could be achieved in fractals is number of kills. So that is a total of 1/5.

The problem is that these new dailies are so specific that it forces you to do do certain things to get it done. It is not longer something fun to complete but instead an annoying list of things to get done.

And I cannot argue for your personal situation. I would have to lay out “greater good”, “the sum is greater than each individual”. Part of my reply does point to “We had it easy” so it’s harder to take on something not as easy as the new normal. For example if it were reversed, at first we had to go to each map each day and do something for our daily, then that was changed to we needed 50 kills and 25 gathers and that is it. People wouldn’t be put off as much because we went from harder to easier. We’ve been spoiled I reckon, I am ok with the change because I don’t perceive it as unreasonable and again see some logic in it.

Terrible Tactic? That seems a little strong. They need to get us around the map, this is a step, perhaps not the best one, I’ll just call it a start.

Maguma Veterans: Metrica Province around that reactor
Kryta Events: I’ll be nice and tell you where I usually get all my daillies from— Blood tide Coast. It’s also free to get there, so no complaining about WP costs, and there’s sometimes events right at the start of the zone.

Anyhow, the dailies certainly aren’t very fun. They’re actually easier and faster, but they are also busy work, since they make you do very specific things over the generic old dailies. It would be like if one daily was “Use 5 waypoints or talk to 5 vendors in Mount Maelstrom”. It would be trivial to do it, but extremely annoying and pointless.

IMO, they should have all types of dailies available, every day. The only exception would be the zone specific achievements which could be a “zone of the day” the type achievement. Scrap the trivial ones if needed, but this makes it so that it is not any easier to get them, yet also less annoying and arbitrary.

I got daily kills and leveler (so 2/5 my mistake got 98/100 Veteran kills from the monthly I mixed that up). Filling your xp bar beyond 80 seems to count as gaining level.

Some of them are specific but now you have a choice. I can’t see why choosing 5 out of 9 is worse than forced to do 5 specific ones. Hence, I think the current system is better than the one before.

While the greater good is questionable from my point of view, since I don’t see how walking people all around the world would benefit anyone I understand your point of view.

“Terrible Tactic” I agree. What they’re doing with the dailies as well it’s called “herding”. They’ve been doing this from the release of fractals and honestly I’m sad to see the achievements go the same way. What happened to “play the game the way you want to”? You might argue that one can still do that and not do dailies/fractals but then again one would be broke all the time. And for a game that shouts “non-grindy” with every press release they do, this game is very unfriendly for a casual player.

TheBlueI.3486

Some of them are specific but now you have a choice. I can’t see why choosing 5 out of 9 is worse than forced to do 5 specific ones. Hence, I think the current system is better than the one before.

I don’t think anyone argues about the 5/9 issue. Everyone here seems unhappy that while before all options made sense for a lvl 80 char, right now most of them don’t. That’s not an encouragement, that’s imposing content on someone. And in my opinion that’s bad. What if I don’t own a costume? Should I pay some money to buy one just because the daily needs it? Or stalk LA for 2h until someone decides to do a cauldron? Being forced to play certain content contradicts my idea of fun.

My point is I used to log in for 1h a day and do stuff with my friends or my guild. And at the end maybe I’d have to go kill 2-3 mobs for diversity, but other than that my daily was done. I did not need to stress over it or allocate special time for it, and that’s what a daily achievement should be in my opinion. A reward for spending time and doing something in the game each day. Not a reward for going out of your way to play certain content. The latter is pretty much the definition of grinding.

Anyway, that’s my two cents.

The dailies used to be something that just happened when you logged in and played. They happened naturally.

Now you have to actively seek them out, find where to complete them and now I spend over an hour searching for kitten to complete my daily then playing the game and having fun.

What was wrong with the dailies the way they were?

Agreed. The dailies used to be a random reinforcement for going about my business and playing the way I wanted to.

Now, because they’re the only way to get Laurels (the monthly requires dailies) I end up spending more than half my weekday play time in directed play trying to finish the daily.

This is a fundamental change in both what I do and changes my feelings about the game. (Moves the game two notches along the line from “fun” toward “work”.) This basic difference in what I do day to day, alone, has made me more likely to look at another game if one comes along, which I would not have before.

It also caused a fundamental change in what I observe in Queensdale and other lowbie zones. At 4pm PST every day there are 80s out there wiping areas clear of mobs, blowing through events in record time, getting their dailies done efficiently, but making the zone unplayable (and unenjoyable) for at level players. Because MMO gaming is an entertainment experience (like, say, going to Disneyland, or being at a Club Med style resort, or the like), and people stick around based on their individual emotional experience in the end, I have seen in specific cases in other games and would assert without proof for the general case that it is possible to drive off a new customer of an MMO in the space of 60 seconds of bad experience during the first hour of play. I believe the dailies as currently structured, have perversely incented the player base to break immersion and overrun the lowbie zones in ways that will drive away new players.

Three observations:

This is an unintended side effect of the devs trying to make pink gear progression available to all playstyles, which is well intentioned.

“Any intuitive change to a complex system will inevitably leave that system worse off.” (From the first page of a college engineering textbook on complex systems I used in the 1970s, which in turn was quoting an earlier book on urban studies.)

“The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

If they included the old choices too it would have been better, making the daily ‘complete 5 tasks from this stationary list of 20 or 25’. That would encourage the casual player to take on one of the new choices in a ‘oh let’s try that for a change’ type of way instead of ‘go there or else’.

The way they have it at the moment it’s like a job.

On a side note I don’t have most of the map unlocked on 8 of my 10 lvl80 characters as after I completed it twice there didn’t seem much point- so now I am forced to play toons I’m not particularly fond of to reach areas I don’t want to be in to do something I wasn’t planning on doing with my limited LEISURE time.

Games are supposed to be fun, engaging and something you look forward to doing, not another job to get through.

And the simple solution to all this would be to make the stuff TRADEABLE – from dungeons, fractals, laurels, etc instead of basically forcing people to do things they would rather not do in order to get things that they would like. I’m sure they had their reasons for making it like that but I’m pretty sure it’s not helping player retention and gem sales.

I mostly agree with the daily hate. But it’s not because of the dailies themselves.
It’s because of those kitten laurels.

Before “laurelgate” I could do my daily or don’t if I didn’t feel like it. In fact I could simply not log in one day if I had more important stuff to do. Now this is pretty much a big no-no if you want those ascended trinkets. “Dont feel like loging in to do your daily today? Though luck son! You’re one more day away from the shiny.”
Now before anyone uses the old “you don’t have to get it” argument: Anet is dangling new shinies in front of me and saying “Hey all the cool kids want them!” and I’m supposed to ignore them right? I’m supposed to be a unique butterfly who ignores the gear progression that is CLEARLY in the game (for good or for worse).

Here’s what I suggest:

1) Give a player a laurel when he logs in the game for the first time in the day. The timegate is still on but this will remove all of the daily laurel BS in my opinion. The daily is already extremely easy to do, it’s just the fact that it’s mandatory that really rustles my jimmies. I’ll reiterate: sometimes I don’t feel like going out of my way and loggin in/ doing the daily but if I don’t it will hurt my vertical progression. This leads me to:

2) Allow me to redo a missed daily. The time gate is still on but it no longer punishes me for not logging in religiously/ always doing the daily no matter what. This will also go a long way in alleviating the “laurelgate” problem.

I don’t mind working to achieve a long term goal. Unfortunately dailies aren’t real work, they feel more like speed bumps on an empty road. Nobody likes speed bumps.

For the people who have a hard time doing dailies:

- daily kill variety/ healer: go to Thaumanova Reactor in Metrica Province NW corner. Plenty of different mobs and a lot of dead researches.
- daily events/ veteran kills: go to WvW, find where the “zerg” is (following the commander icon helps or just ask in chat if you don’t know what do to). You can complete up to 3 events in 30 sec by just taking a supply camp. As for veterans all the npc guards are veterans so there’s no shortage there. If you like to go solo ganking WvW might not be a great way for events unless you like sniping caravans.
-daily dodger/ enemy invaders killed: again WvW – follow the zerg in an engagement and fire your AoEs -> look for red circles -> dodge -> instant completion of both.
- daily gatherer: I still don’t have a best way of doing this. I generally mine what i see when I move around a map (having mithril tools helps).
- daily aquatic slayer: go to a starter area and look for bodies of water in the zone with the lowest level. You should be able to oneshot everything event at lower levels. The lake in southern Wayfarer Foothills has lv 1 mobs inside.

These are generally the things do to finish my daily quickly and be done with it. I know it’s biased for WvW but i believe it’s the quickest way to do some of the achievements.
