I’ve had the game for about a year, but I finally hit Level 80 with my first character last night. I know next to nothing about the game, so I figured I’d ask for a little advice/guidance.

1. Money: I only have 19 gold. I really like the looks of the cultural armor, but it is very expensive and I’ve never seen anyone else actually wearing the cultural armor. Whether or not I eventually buy the Level 80 cultural armor, what is the best way to make money?

2. Dungeons: I’ve never been in a dungeon, not for my story, not for anything. What would be a good “n00b” dungeon to start with?

3. Builds: This character is a Sword/Axe & Rifle warrior with 30 Strength, 20 Arms, and 20 Discipline. Again, I don’t know what I’m doing. I’ve googled builds, but some of them seem like they could be outdated. What is a good source of information for Warrior Builds AND Slot Skills?

4. More: Any other advice or anything you can’t believe I didn’t mention (or don’t know about)?

It’s an awesome game, my daughter and I play together and we are really enjoying it. Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated.

Do dungeon’s.
good income and some dungeons arn’t too hard

CoF is good to start with.. (use lfg and join or create a newbie group)

Reddit has some good info on builds, or go with the general good dps builds. (post on the warrior forum, sure someone will link something “generally good”)

Save your gold untill you find something you really want (and or use it to build your warrior)

Also, depending on the server, there are always some larger guilds recruiting, join up with one of those guilds and just watch guildchat for events and other calls to arms.

http://dulfy.net/category/gw2/ has tons of info on anything ^^

goodluck!

1. Early sources of funds can be high level map clearing and hitting the World Bosses.
You’ve also make some money doing some types of farming.
Dungeons pay out gold each day for the different paths.

2. You should do the story mode for each dungeon in order to get a sense of the dungeon’s flavor. After that, run the paths and find the ones you like and don’t like. Some paths are really easy and dungeon runners do them every day for the gold.

3. Depends on what you want to do. Most max DPS Warrior builds use Greatsword and Axe/Mace with full berserker gear.

4. You’ve got 4 more character slots left. You can always start a new character and try out another class.

1.) Go after skins to make your character more aesthetically appealing.

You mention t3 culural, which costs quite a bit of gold (especially for you since you only have 19g up to this point)

2.) Do dungeons to go after these unique skins (armors and weapons) and they simply take time rather than gold. Easiest dungeons off the top of my head (I’m not a dungeon runner) to do are AC 1, SE 1, CoF1. You should also try out Fractals of the Mists – it’s a really good dungeon.

3.) Participate in WvW. Depending on your server, and the people you choose to run with, this can be extremely satisfying. But if you do not like getting killed by people or get anxiety from this, don’t bother

4.) Participate in map completion/collection/spvp

Last point: The fact that you only have 19g after all this time tells me either you are not doing any events that give you a good amount of gold, or you have limited time.

Depending on your server, people may be doing metaevent trains, which are giant zergs that go through each major boss at reset night. It’s a good (not the best) source of gold and you make the most out of your time if you only have 2 hours to play.

If you haven’t already, go visit gw2stuff.com and pick your server. It’ll show current metaevents that are in progress for which at a minimum will give you 1 rare and a couple of blues/greens.

1.) Cultural armor is actually very expensive as it is only of rare (yellow) quality. Most of the time, people just buy it for the looks and use a crystal (rare drop from chest, or bought with gems) to immediately transmute it with a higher level amor of the desired stats. It will make you broke

- best way to make money is to speculate with items on the TP, not spending your gold on mini naked kasmeer minis and item flipping. Also, a dungeon run will net u 1gold immediately upon completion.

2.) Citadel of Flame part one and two are deemed to be the easiest ones I think. Part one specifically. I would honestly think you are not going to fail if you whop into fractals and see how that works out for you as the rewards are quite good.

3.) I use Axe/Mace mainhand and the second main set-up for max. DPS is greatsword (do not mind the listed order). With a build of 30/25/0/0/15 (both weapons)

4.) I cant stress out how important this is: DO NOT SPENT rampant amounts of karma. After the nerf, its very hard to obtain it / subjective to my playstyle, objections not taken into account. IF you decide to go for a Legendary you will need approx. 1Mil. Karma. Keep this in mind before putting down 68k for an armor piece.

It’s an awesome game, my daughter and I play together and we are really enjoying it. Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated.

1. Daily dungeon chests reward a nice sum of money (1-2g per path). Some dungeons and their paths can be pretty quick to complete (AC p1+3, COF p1+2)

2. AC (Ascalon Catacombs). First the story mode, then practice explorable mode p1 and p3

3. Personally, I play zerk warr. Get two axes, or an axe and a mace and armor with berserker/rage prefixes/suffixes. Get exotic versions at least.

4. Fractals are fun, and are also the source for ascended items (even better than exotic). There is also PVP and world bosses. World bosses might be fun, but I farm them for a chance of getting a precursor I also like exploring and discovering + beating jumping puzzles

OP- Kudo’s on playing with your daughter and congrats on hitting 80.

This game unlike others, there is nothing magical that happens when you hit 80, because you still can and imo should do the things you enjoyed doing before hand.
The only difference is that you now have more options open to you.

1.- 19 g is quite a lot- when I hit 80 originally I had 57 s
As for cultural armor I guess you mean tier3?
that is very expensive but it is totally a matter of how much you like the skin and if you have the money to chuck away because it has rare (yellow stats)

you can make money through various ways- by doing dungeons, exploring and harvesting and selling the mats, through Living Story, by doing world bosses etc.
just play what you like/ do a bit of everything and if you are not too much in a hurry and it will pile up

2- I don’t do dungeons but – my advice would be to create your own group for what ever dungeon you and your daughter want to try and state clearly: New player, all classes/levels welcome will stop for cutscenes.
This will hopefully keep the min maxers out of your group

3- I don’t have a warrior so I can’t help there- check the warrior profession forum and take everything with a grain of salt

4- Enjoy yourself and immerse yourself in the beautiful world- have fun doing the things you like- not what you think you should be doing for xyz reasons- Happy Hunting

Well said! And that’s really the basic truth. Just keep enjoying the game…there’s no total shift in play style at max level…thank goodness.

Due to the game level-scaling your character to the content…the entire world is still open to you at max level. You can continue to explore zones, do events, and all the rest until you have 100% map completion. Things will be easier with a scaled-down character, but they won’t be trivial. There are some truly challenging areas for a solo player in the open world, even at max level.

Have you done any crafting? You can level up crafting professions to make yourself better armor and weapons…exotic or even ascended quality.

There is structured player verses player, as well as WvW. Both provide very different ongoing game play that can be very enjoyable.

Many others have mentioned dungeons already…

Harvesting tier-6 crafting materials (orichalcum ore and Ancient logs) is a good way to make money. Discover the node sites for yourself if you enjoy exploration (they change with each server restart), or use a site like gw2nodes.com to just farm them for selling or crafting.

ALTS!!
This game has amazing replay-ability. There are five races and eight classes…all with different personal stories with different branches to explore and with very different play styles. Maybe it’s time to start a new character and experience the game from an entirely new perspective.

You can certainly use the warrior forum here, or the various other places linked, to find other people’s builds for warrior. I would encourage you to develop your own, however. There is no BEST build. You have played for quite a while, and I’m sure you have a good idea of how you like to play and what feels good to you. If it works for you… it’s a good build. As you try new game play (like dungeons or WvW), you are likely to find the need to change your build and adapt.

If it’s not working or doesn’t feel good… try something else. Just try to develop a central idea – Where’s your damage coming from, how do you stay alive…and build around that. Your gear stats and traits should work together…if you are set up for direct damage or critical hits… get armor with power, precision, and./or crit damage. If you want to primarily apply bleeds or burning… work on getting your condition damage up. There’s no wrong build except one that isn’t fun to play.
