I hate seeing other players — Lv 80 players -- when I’m playing in lower level areas.

They kill everything so fast, that the game isn’t enjoyable for me. It’s just not fun to have monsters die so quickly.

As a courtesy to other players, when I’m a Lv 80 playing in lower level areas, I remove my exotic gear (armor, weapons, trinkets) and use masterwork.

edit: not only that, the low level player doesn’t get enough time to tag enemies to get a gold medal in events.

yesterday I saw 4 people standing next to the holo-projector and doing nothing. I watched them for a couple of seconds, while standing next to the thing. Well, I decided to open it and they burst down the mobs while I was laying on my back…

I’m definitely not happy to see those guys again

Apparently low level mobs have a much smaller health pool than high level mobs.

Using the same attacks on a jellyfish in a starting area takes away much more of their health bar than to the south of LA.

If scaling was linear, the damage done should have been roughly the same.

I just guest to a low pop server, find a zone that isn’t very popular and have all the holos to myself. If I see a node with ten peeps around it I don’t waste my time trying to tag something, I go somewhere else. I’ve been paying a fortune in WP fees but killing 300 holos in under an hour makes it all worth it.

Be careful what you wish for, Anet might just give it to you “HoT”

They were probably waiting for the 5th member of their party to get there. If you didn’t ask why they were waiting, you deserved it honestly. I’m sorry but just running up and activating it with people standing there is rude. I have even made friends by asking if someone was waiting for another person.

I hate all the illegal alien ‘guesters’ on my lower population server.

If I’m in zone and I see some running around to the holos, I’ll activate them just so they can’t get their loot.

Really… I have that much hate for them.

More to the point, many people are upset about the achievement rather than the loot. You can get that loot killing anything…but you can only get the achievement killing the creatures that spawn from the projector. And you need 300 of them to max the achievement. And you need 10 achievements to get the wings.

No, the overall system is fine.

This system could (and should, actually) be in place for the holograms though, much like the boxes in Super Adventure Box (still the best update to date). They’re much harder to get/more limited availability mobs, that die fast and everyone wants/needs for achievements.

After how good SAB was, I don’t understand why they keep going backwards in so many areas…

Illegal: Contrary to or forbidden by law
alien: Belonging to a foreign country or nation.

Guesting is not forbidden by law.
People from other servers may or may not be from a different country or nation.

Despite your random and senseless hatred towards illegal aliens, the people guesting on your server are not them.

so you don’t like to see other players… that’s what this topic is all about, not those holo-projectors mainly.

If I’d like to diskuss the holo-projectors, don’t you think the topic would be named: “my problem with holo-projectors”? I don’t want other people to run away from my, my friends or my guild. I want to make friends.

Unfortunately there is more and more competition leaking into the game. The promise for cooperation seems to be dying a slow death.
Partly this is due to what has happened in other games and those that come form them bring the flaw with them.
Anet imo really hasn’t done a good job re-educating players to the co-op method. It doesn’t help when they bring in items that cause people to beat or out do the other person.
Since people for the most part do not change without repercussions. I feel these need to be introduced or Anet needs to get back to the core of co-op over competition and do things in events that will not promote the latter but do engage the former

Maybe I misunderstood the meaning behind your post. Thought to were saying how much you hate seeing everyone kill everything so fast that you can’t loot anything yourself. I was just posting what I did to avoid that situation.

Since launch I have met more than enough people to make me want to play PvE by myself. WvW is different cause the game dynamics are so much more fun in small group fights. I am not what you would call super social. I have enough friends in real life, I don’t want any more. The people I play with are nothing more than strangers sharing a gaming experience and I will not pretend that it is anything more than that.

I’ve been at work and without power for the last 24hours so I can’t comment on changes made since then.
But I did try to take an alt lvl7 around to finish up the achievement the last time I was on line. I hit the holo-mobs but got absolutely no kill credit due to the high level players wiping them so quickly.
Maybe Anet could adjust kill-credit for lower lvl characters vs higher lvl characters. Basically they could scale the kill credit needed to qualify for loot based upon level.
A low level can’t even do a fraction of the damage needed to qualify when running with high level characters in the low zones.
If they reduced the amount of dmg needed for low level characters then maybe just maybe it would solve the issues surrounding this, and they wouldn’t have to deal with all the complications involved with down-scaling a high level character that plays in low lvl zones.

What I don’t understand is the hell-bent rush to get this achievement!
Players are camping these things like world events now …

If any player cannot kill 300 holo’s over the month while playing normally, then the player needs to find another game.

Guesting on a low pop server in order to kill 300 in 1 hr is, frankly, obsessive, and says so much about the state of the game and player base.

This is really depressing ..

That’s because these events are a chore, not fun and engaging content. The quicker I farm them and get done with them the happier I’ll be.

as this thread seems to be all about the holos now I’ll add my two cents:

I feel like it would have been a better solution to make it possible to activate the holos manually once per zone (until all have been activated which resets the thing). The one who activates it get’s automatically credit for all of the mobs. Others can help but don’t get the higher droprate but only normal-mob droprate.

The other one can then activate the same node again and now it’s his and others can help him.

This way you’d never have to worry about the tagging. You’d be happy to see other players because it’s easier to fight these holos with a helping hand. Furthermore you have an incentive to find all the nodes on a map instead of running back and forth between the same ones all the time.

And after you’ve found each holo-projector in a zone you have the choice to repeat it (all holo-projectors become active again and wait for you to activate them) or you can move on to the next zone.

As said before, people will, undoubtedly, stand around and just loot the bodies, even though they didn’t do anything. If that route is taken, it needs to be limited to party only. When the holograms first came out, for about 20 minutes, me and some guildies tried to farm them together. It didn’t work out well. We’d wait for each other, but someone else would activate it, so those that were close had to help kill or get nothing at all. I’m not understanding why the hologram nodes aren’t instanced, just like mining nodes.

You activate a node, and the monsters spawn, only visible to you, though, or to people in your party as well. If someone else comes over and activates the same node, then they get their own mobs to fight, which I won’t be able to see. This wasn’t a big problem during the Halloween event because the doors came back really fast, and the mobs that came out were numerous.
