I'm ready and hyped for chef and jeweler 500!
claps
Well done. So you just wanted to show off your stuff?

Still would like a link were they said we would get chef and jeweler 500 tho
Still would like a link were they said we would get chef and jeweler 500 tho
they didn’t
also this would not make much sense anyway – what one would want to craft with chef 500?
and ascended trinckets have already 3 ways of getting them so I doubt they will ever add that 4th (which probably would be easiest of them all)

I’m gonna laugh my kitten off when they introduce new mats which you can only harvest in HoT zones that you will need to level cook/JC past 400.
in b4 jeweler 500 needs tons of the starter gems
HEHEHEHE
nice amount of mats though i guess
but… what will you do if 500 chef/jeweler doesnt come with HoT? ^^

I could see 500 jewelcrafting necessary for legendary backpieces. And 500 cooking could give buffs specific to raids that might be extremely useful. It’s really not that hard to imagine anet could find use for both of these professions going to 500.
They could always introduce ascended or legendary recipes that require chef and jeweler to 500. It doesn’t necessarily have to be trinkets or food as the end result, but Gifts that go toward legendary gear.
If they do have cooking or jewerly to 500 then they could easily tie it new mats in the new expansion areas. If so, then the OP’s stash won’t get him to 500. In fact, I would expect them to do that. It puts more value on the mats that will drop over there. Remember the ?? mats we got during the betas. Those are likely them.
ANet may give it to you.
So OP’s first post on the forums is a picture of materials he has been stocking up, surely not an attempt to get their prices to go up so he can sell them for profit?
So let me get this, you have tons of materials for the 2 CHEAPEST crafting professions in the game (http://gw2crafts.net/jewelcraft.html http://gw2crafts.net/cooking.html ) while at the same time hoarding some super expensive materials which will 99% likely not be needed to level these profesionss to 500.
While not investing that gold into the market or other materials or skins that have a very high chance of gaining value over the next weeks/months (shadow skins any one?).
You Sir are a true genious!

This is exactly what I was thinking.
Still would like a link were they said we would get chef and jeweler 500 tho
they didn’t
Yeah, they DID.
All crafting professions. And do notice how they said they would do that during 2013. I guess they are just two years late, but we know they won’t add in 2015 the things they promised us in 2013.
Not to be hating or anything, but the cost of 6 collection expanders converted to gold is probably more than the cost of all that stuff. Maybe if you had 1500 chili peppers…
Either way it would be neat to see these go to 500, but i bet we would have heard of it by now, unless theyre going to be used for legendary backpieces, which i doubt
Don’t complain, when a trader talks about his thought in public! The prices for lower tier gemstones and jewels are ridiculously cheap, often being at merchant price. ANet showed in the past that they don’t like that kind of situation for lower tier crafting materials.
That was the same with metals, wood and cloth before they introduced ascended crafting for armor and weapons. My guess is that lower tier gemstones are the new wool, cotton, linen and silk. Mark my words!

Which still does not explain why you are holding on to certain key items that are quite expensive and have near no value crafting wise or for leveling the craftskill, instead of selling of your high value assets with low expected value gain to invest into more prospective materials.

I’d like to see a 500 Chef profession, and ascended food to provide a buff that lasts for hours instead of only 30 minutes.

Jewel Crafter could still be used to create ascended quality jewel upgrades. Currently if you want raw stats you can only slot Orbs into your gear. 500 Jeweler could improve those to Ascended. In addition: Craftable aqua breathers. Doesn’t quite fit with the jeweler theme though. Perhaps Jeweler will be given additional functions later on also, such as ascended bag crafting for things like 25-slot bags or account-wide bags.

Youre not a trader, youre a hoarder. Most mats you are hoarding doubled in value at least once in the last year and went back down again. If you would have listed them after buying them at vendor value, you would already have made 85% profit.
Cooking has alot of intermediate mats, which are offered way below crafting value, those would have a way higher profit margin anyways.
And the first real spike usually comes from mats that are used in leveling the profession from 400-500 because thats the first thing everybody does and all lvl 400 discoveries will be reset, so it would make the most sense to buy up the items that are used in lvl 400 recipes, for example Exquisite Chrysocola Orbs.
https://www.gw2tp.com/item/24496-exquisite-chrysocola-jewel
They are traded for around 20s but their crafting value is over 60s, so those will be bought out first from the player base to discover exotic chrysocola trinkets.
Compared to other exotic jewels they might have a big supply with 11k but about 10k of those listings are mine at 50s and higher.
Jeweling is also unique in a way compared to the other crafting professions as you can upgrade from one tier to the next without having to rely on rng and spirit shards via the mf. But Transmogrification takes dust as well. There might be plenty of t5 jewels to be upgraded into orbs available on the tp but there is only enough t5 dust to upgrade about a quarter of them, so it would make more sense to invest in t5 dust and not jewels.
Happy hoarding.

They already have some spots for cooking mats in HoT. And I think a new mining node. Getting those masteries is going to mean money in the bank early on.

It seams like these 2 crafting professions got put to the wayside all of the other crafting professions are capped at 500 with tons of new stuff to craft.
Chef and Jeweler did not get anything. Still capped at 400 with nothing new or exciting.
I hope this is going to be addressed in the expansion at least.
there is already enough methods to get ascended accessories in game. Jeweller isn’t really required to be 500. I would like to see cooking go to 500 with some new food types available to make use of cooking materials that don’t get as much use

For the millionth time, there is no culinary application for bloodstone dust. None.

They could use it for something else, though. Imagine a line of weapon skins that require a jeweler to make parts to be combined for the final item. Bejeweled swords, ornamented staves, ect. Make them purely vanity. Yes, it’s not as functional as most other crafts’ 400-500 skill stuff, but it would still present a goal to work towards.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
I figured that if they’d release the remaining crafts to 500, they wouldn’t tell us. I have a suspicion they they won’t use jeweler for trinkets and such but maybe for legendary armor. Just speculation.

sure there is. It’s like pepper….spicy and causes you to bleed out through your eyes.
How do we add new recipes? Make longer versions of existing ones? Make new more powerful versions? How about food that give effects such as those in runes or sigils?
How do we add new recipes? Make longer versions of existing ones?
Honestly I’d settle for that.
They’d end up being pretty expensive I’m sure, but if we’re not going to get any kind of bindable key to allow us to apply food, the ability to craft longer lasting food would be a real treat.
If you played Living Story Season 2 there is an interesting debate/argument at the Priory between two cooks about using blood stone dust as a cooking ingredient. I think it was a neat Easter egg to poke fun at us chefs who want 500 cooking!
Remember cooking does not always equal food. Take dyes for example. I could see components for high end items requiring a component made from a chef.

One obvious answer is to make food that gives Agony Resistance. It may not seem to make much sense to current fractal runners, but it could be of use to new ones. And if the max Fractal level was to ever jump past the current 50, then even geared runners might find a need for it.
Look at the current prices on AR Infusions, then ask yourself: “How much would a food that gives you +10 AR for an hour be worth?”

I like the idea!
And I’d completely forgotten that Cooking could do dyes. Could make for some interesting new dye packs at 500. Maybe even ones that give special dyes.
Jewelcrafting is going to be the harder one to justify, though Ascended grade gems that come with Agony Resistance should be a thing.

I think infusions in general have alot of potential anyways for jeweler 500.

Except the current infusion process is handled by Artificer. :\

Artificer gets too much and Jeweler too little.

I have a feeling 500 chef is going to deal with the food that in game that no one can craft atm. That and feat version of that food.

Well, there were those mushroom nodes gated behind a mastery level…

I think I got that one, and they give you “?”s, so I’m guessing they are a form of Hylek currency.
I could see 500 jewelcrafting necessary for legendary backpieces. And 500 cooking could give buffs specific to raids that might be extremely useful.
You don’t need 500 of any crafting discipline to produce a legendary weapon so I don’t see why you would need 500 for a legendary backpiece (also backpieces aren’t jewelry, requiring armorsmithing, leatherworking or tailoring would make more sense).
It’s really not that hard to imagine anet could find use for both of these professions going to 500.
The only purpose either of these professions going to 500 would be to introduce more artificial “progression” to hide another crafting material sink and another grind.
Make no mistake here: the other crafting disciplines did not have to go to 500 when they added ascended recipes. All the ascended recipes they added could have all required level 400. Instead they increased it to 500 so we would sink our mats into levelling up crafting disciples (and presumably to slow down crafters a bit) but it was basically busy work.

Amazing, the things we accept when games consistently do these things. I didn’t even really question the 400-500 jump, I just rolled with it. >.>

I’m not with you there. There are three ascended crafting materials missing (Crystalline Ore, Crystalline Ingot and Electrum Ingot) and they probably belong to jeweler. And all other ascended crafting materials require level 450, so why should that be different here?
It’s in the wiki what Electrum Ingot is made of. And my strong guess for the crystalline stuff is that it’s made of lots of gemstones and jewels.
Besides, was that a hint from Linsey at TwitchCon?

Apologizes for rezzing an old thread, just curious to see whats become of all those cooking and gemstone mats :P
Also its nice to see all the excitement and wonder that was had for pre-release. Hopefully many years more to come!
Bring on LW Season 3!
