Don’t mean to be a troll, but he left WoW because of the gear grind. The new patch is “slowly” introducing that same system. Why hide the truth from him? Though I agree that a lot of thing said on this forum is incorrect, but some of them do have their merit.
As for twisted.4683 the game is great, just not right now for most of us right now in its current state. 3 month ago I could see myself playing this game for years to come. Don’t let what I just said discourage you, just letting you know what has happen so far.

Hey there
the world seems very quiet and other players seem very far and few is this just because i am in a starter zone and if so if i follow the main quest how long till i hit a large populated city with players flooding general chat and looking for new players to join their guild?
Depends alot on which server you picked. Although once you get to Lions Arch,in any server, you should see a fairly large amount of people Looking for various groups.
From what the NPC said the crafting seems very unique and I haven’t seen a system like this so i can learn all crafting profession and max them out but only have two active at any one time but if i deactivate one where I learnt some rare recipes would I lose them?
Twisted.

No you wont lose anything by switching but it can cost Copper/Silver to switch depending how high your rank is.

because this system you talk about is just a week old, and this forums is full of people like you. trolling about the new patch. IF you knew A-net team a little better you KNOW they will adress this issue and WILL fix it! just give it more time then 24 hours after the patch.

Yup, new anti-grind people should be warned, but not in a manner that goes like “i don’t like the game anymore, and nor should you, go away!” Because that’s exactly what some people do.

This game has nothing even close to WoW’s gear grind.

Not gonna bother arguing, in its current state the game is what it is, until any change or comment from the company. I will stand by that.

Not yet.
There could be two factors in play in terms of your empty world problem. There is definitely one problem and that is FotM. People are less likely to be leveling alts when there is a clear path to power. People don’t want to be left behind so they have hopped on the treadmill. I believe this will be a permanent problem as the cost of the grind really isn’t possible for someone like me with 11 characters.
The other possible factor is your server. I had to transfer servers after last weekends event because mine became empty in the open world. My new one is a little better and I’ve found it more possible to have a group for group events. The transfers are still free so you might want to research servers and think about a transfer.
Hi welcome to the game. I hope you will love it.
Crafting is very useful in that you can kit yourself as you level and I found it rewarding and fun. don’t worry you will never lose your recipes.
the questing and Dynamic events in this game is awesome and gives you a great feeling of being involved in the world.
How lonely you are leveling depends a lot on your server. it is true however that the new dungeon swallows a lot of players but just today I was leveling my alt in the Norn lands and there where players everywhere so I suggest you get on a lively server.
All in all you have a lot to enjoy

I played WoW for years and its grind is dwarfed by the one introduced by GW2. I liked battlegrounds and I could get a PvP set in a couple weeks at my rate of play. Same with PvE. Have you done any number-crunching around the current Ascended gear? And, what do you imagine a full set of Ascended will cost in terms of grind? You are correct that the two are not comparable, but you have them turned around in terms of the level of grind in the grind.

Well im in the only server that is FULL in eu, and it’s still deadzone.
I doubt transfering to a smaller server would improve anything.
There are several reason why the game feels empty.
1. There is a new dungeon.
2. There is a new set of end game gear that may only be aquired in the new dungeon.
3. The new dungeon gives the best loot per time spent in the game.
4. The loot gets better the higher you progress in the dungeon.
5. Whether true or not people feel they need the new loot to compete.
What has been created here is a loot tier system. This divides the player base into levels. A level 6 fotm player will not want to go down in levels because the loot isn’t as good. A level 1 player cannot go up in levels because the system does not allow it. What you end up with is a lot of players running the dungeon, but they are all segmented into groups by time spent. As time wears on, you will find it harder and harder to find low tier groups.
This becomes a problem with older content. There is absolutly no reason to play older content as opposed to the new dungeon, because it is better in every regard. By adding carrots players percieve as necessary to the the new dungeon the others become much less desireable. This spills over to the world map. There were reasons to go out into the world before. People needed mats for armor, mats for food, items to sell for gold. etc…now it is easy to just run one dungeon and buy the things you need.
Unless you WvW on a high tier server, your rise to 80 will more than likely be a lonely one. I am on a server that always has queues for LA during primetime. I can run mid tier zones and never run into another player, while i’m out trying to level my guardian. I have to pass up the majority of events because I can’t solo them. Ask for help in map chat…crickets. This will continue until there is a reason to go back out into the world other than leveling.

You people honestly make me sick.
The OP was trying to express his enjoyment of the game (and was asking for some help), why do you need to come in here and spew the same tired old rhetoric we’ve been hearing for weeks? He wasn’t asking to hear about how bad the game is to you or hear you complain. Get a kitten grip.
Do you need a phone book to look up a medical professional to help you with that?

lol I didn’t mean to reply to you, deleted my comment
Wow thanks for the welcome folks
was not expecting to come back in to a debate when i logged in
@MrFayth.3546 sorry didn’t realise there was a proper thread i could of posted in
tho i wasn’t strictly asking for help more a little advice and to express my enjoyment
in the game so far .
seems like there’s a lot of debate on a new patch and maybe gear grinding but hey i was a
endgame raider i enjoyed merking through end game boss’s trying to get that
awesome sword or token
I put another hour in to just running around and exploring the map love the way
I was rewarded with a little chest for 100% area explored
didn’t put to much thinking in choosing a server i just went EU and med pop,
not high to avoid possible log in queues .
advancing further in my quest line ran in to plenty of players and it seemed like a
friendly community asked a few questions in /map chat and was not a troll in sight
and every one seemed very helpful
looking forward to lvling up and trying my hand at some pvp especial world v world v world.
