I miss the old Lion’s Arch.
The new always is better… well except for Andromeda…
We have both LA, the old in the PS and the new in open world. So, no problem.
After all that octopus bank is a robot that will destroy the deep sea dragon.

You do realize it’s like 99.9% gone? you only get to see it during the meeting of DE, and maybe 5 minutes if you chose order of whispers as a base group to support
And it seems a dev changed the title of the topic…

That’s plenty for me. I don’t need to see the old LA any more than that, any more than I mind not seeing the LA from GW1. I miss when this game was updating zones more often.

Doesn’t the title fit the thread? What’s wrong with it?
Mainly I miss the ambient dialogue. “What is evil anyway”, “Where are the outhouses?” And of course “By Oghden’s hammer, what savings!”
Never forget.

I also prefer the old LA. It had much more character in my opinion. The current incarnation feels too clinical somehow. I avoid going there.

Josh Foreman did a good job on the new Lion’s Arch, not going to deny that.
I’m not speaking out of nostalgia though when I say that the old Lion’s Arch felt more aligned with the “reality” of Guild Wars 2, and that I liked it much more.
This seems to have become the new theme of Guild Wars 2 though. Players looks like large, obnoxious glowing lighthouses, their appearance completely killing the theme of the game and making it look like a cheap Korean free-to-play title. While the cities are better than players’ sense of fashion, the new Lion’s Arch follows in the “over the top, large, grand, in your face” appearance.
I always find it a bit of an immersion killer when I do the story and go from “new Lion’s Arch” to “old Lion’s Arch” while in story mode around DE and the whole “battle of Claw Island”. I almost wish they would update those cut scenes to the new Lion’s Arch.

It may look like an immersion killer if you didn’t get to play living story 1. But the transition from LA to the Disney Water Park was part of the story. At the time of the meeting Scarlet hadn’t gone skritthit on LA yet
new LA is even worse than the Grove
old LA < DR = BC =RS < Hoelbrak < the Grove < new LA
PS no i don’t hate Sylvari.. my main is one but the city and the home instance is just not good

I too prefered when they updated zones. Lw3 feels like for what ever the purpose of the episode is they will just drop a square on the map to compliment the plot while the rest of the world is unafected.

I can see arguments for and against doing updates. I just always feel like going ‘err, btw ….’ to minions when I go into Orr though.
When people say ‘old LA’ are you talking pre-destruction LA or the LA during the rebuilding period? From what I remember the scenes I saw in LA looked like the rebuilding era but it may just be that I never saw the pre-destruction version so did not know what to look for.

Updating every zone so that it’s ‘in time’ with the newest releases is not only going to be extremely time and resource consuming, but you get the disjointed nature of maps like kessex hills, which is actually more up to date than Orr during the update process AND you lose the reason why the game went free to play in the first place, so that people can experience what it was (mostly) like before the living world seasons started. The personal story deals with the rise of the player’s character into the role of commander of the pact, second in command to the marshal and finally dealing the final blow to Zhaitan specifically. If the maps change, there’s just too much to change with them to justify the resources when those resources can be put into new, never before seen areas of Tyria and continue the storylines there.
Current events kinda throw a wrench into this argument, but i’d argue the wrench is made of easily breakable wood, as the smallest fraction of content are placed in them. The anomalies are in the old zones that players can just gang up on, there’s the bandit leaders, the propaganda, the rifts and the sad anomalies and the updating location of that one charr (i think). But again, this isn’t truly ‘updating’ the zones, this is just adding small pieces of content to what already exists. So there’s actually a lot riding against the restructuring of core tyria zones. The voice acting alone for all those zones to update them would be a nightmare. And what about Orr? Essentially every enemy in Orr was Risen, Zhaitan’s army. They wouldn’t be doing much differently after Zhaitan’s death, but once they’d be cleared out, there’d barely be any enemies to fight (since really, who’s crazy enough to go there for fun except for priory and maybe pirates). As it is currently, according to the caladbolg current event, the pact is STILL doing a cleanup of Orr, though i feel this is merely a lore excuse to not give Orr an update.
As for Lion’s Arch, there WAS a previous, undestroyed Lion’s Arch at the beginning of the game, that’s what people were talking about when they said that they miss old Lion’s Arch.
