I need help with the WvW JP
This is why I wouldn’t ever do the WvW JP’s alone. There’s legitimate reasons for enemies to be camped out in the JP there, since doing so prevents enemy players from obtaining things like Siege Blueprints, but I agree that it’s a pretty scummy way to act, on par with killing lone players who are just there to map. It’s part and parcel of the risk of being in a PvP-zone though.
If you encounter this in future, try announcing to your team that there’s a bunch of invaders camping the JP and getting some help to flush them out.
That last bit pretty much sums up the last 2 months of gameplay for me too..
Next time go in with more people, if there is no next time, you’ll at least save yourself from 4 hours of misery.
How dare they kill you in a 100% dedicated PvP zone.
Ive covered all the jumping puzzles in the game for my youtube channel but one. I think you can guess what it is! Ive recently joined a guild that is heavy on WvW play so im hoping to get a big group together and run EB again for the —th time. The only time ive completed the puzzle was through a portal and i’ll be kitten if im recording that! It felt cheap just doing it! lol
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
It’s your first time, don’t worry about it. If you’re a thief and experienced jumper you can get through the jp quickly and avoid enemies easily. Also, there are mystic fountains that make you invisible for 4 minutes, take advantage of those.

100% dedicated PvP zones could reasonably not be expected to count towards achievements which are 95% based in PvE.
So perhaps they are 95% PvP zones?
World completion and jumping puzzle completion should be entirely free of the requirement to do WvW…especially as it is the part of the game that sucks so hard it turns itself blue.
I don’t remember them ever claiming that world completion is a PVE achievement, or that a certain percentage of it would be PVE. The achievement is what it is and you just do it!
What do they gain from this other than the feeling that they are torturing some random person whom has done nothing wrong to them?
Experience, drops, progress towards monthly achievement…?

Then why do the WvW kills fall under the daily PvE achievements and not the daily PvP achievements?
What the OP writes is the reason I won’t even look at those jumping puzzles.
Not everyone ganking people in the jp is an angry little person. Honestly, you can have some really interesting skirmishes because of the terrain in there.
However, if you think anyone who actually likes to pvp is going to let you walk by and get a handful of free siege that you probably wouldn’t have bought(It seems that most people that complain about the JP are people who don’t really care about wvw or ever pony up their own Coin for siege), then you’re wrong. I’ll kick you off the ledge every time, that’s less potential siege I have to deal with later.
Sorry, PvP happens in PvP zones.

You think there’s actually a point for open world pvp. You pvp to kill people, nothing else.

I wish I could sell those siege thingies I got from map completion…. I might scratch them soon. Don’t assume everybody who does that JP does them for the siege thingies.

If you want to scrap them, better announce in /map or whisper a commander that you want to give for free some siege blueprints. A lot better then simply scraping them.
I always attack the enemies that I see at the jump puzzle. If they don’t fight back then I stop and let them go on their way.
You could get naked and keep trying to do the puzzle never fighting back, eventually they’ll get bored or feel sorry for you and let you complete it… or you could come back another time after they have left.

Even though the siege weapons say they are soulbound you can give them to another player. Go to a safe place and take them out as if you were going to use them. But, instead of using one of the two skills on your bar hit the drop bundle button. Other players will be able to pick those up and they will become soulbound to the character that picks them up. It’s odd, but it works, and the devs have acknowledged that they know about it, and that it is working as intended.

As much as I hate WvW and PvP, this is right on the money. WvW is a zone where the kind of activity described by the OP is par for the course. It isn’t cheap and it isn’t unsporting — it’s PvP. It’s just a shame that ArenaNet is under the mistaken belief that every player enjoys getting their kitten handed to them like this, just because they want to complete a puzzle achievement. Mixing PvE achievements with PvP achievements is asking for problems.
I waited to do the JP until one week when our server was dominating. Lots of friendlies in there and no enemies. I avoid it otherwise.

I think most people don’t care if you get the blueprints or not. It’s just an excuse . When people started complaining about this a few months ago, about two weeks in someone mentioned blueprints.
In general, people just enjoy finding a space with a tactical advantage.
The best way to do the jumping puzzle is to wait until your server is in control of the top. You can usually figure that out through chatting.
The only thing that really annoys me is when someone waves/bows in there, receives one back, and then attacks anyway, which usually seems to happen as soon as they get one or two more people – these same people then wave again as soon as they’ve lost the advantage, at which point I now attack anyway (assuming that they had personally done that).
I realize that it makes sense, from one important view, to do this, and I’m not trying to change that (as if I’d succeed anyway). It still annoys me though, and it’s happened enough with one of the other servers that I’m close to just attacking them regardless.
I love those puzzles ^.^ I find them so enjoyable to try and survive making it through. It might help if you can try it during slower times on your server. The wells mentioned by some of the others can also help you. If you get good enough, you can make it to the top of the monster arena area before your first stealth wears off, and then quickly grab the next one. Even if it takes you a while to do the jumps, you can use the invisibility to practice the jumps in relative safety, and go back and get the stealth as it wears off to continue practicing. That could help you learn the jumps better.
Other pieces of advice I can give is to control your character’s direction by holding down the right mouse button so your character turns as you move the mouse. This helps make turning much more rapid and precise. It also helps you micro manage your jumps mid-flight (you can actually somewhat change your flight orientation after the jump, enough to correct for landing and even curve around pillars somewhat).
I would always be up for helping sometime, unfortunately, it would be very unlikely that we would be on the same server ^.^.
Good luck,
Berk
Join a WvW guild if you want to accomplish anything in WvW.
In a previous WvW guild I was in, one of the Commanders did guild WvW puzzle nights.
They used 2 Mesmers to portal the guild to the key, then the chests for the borderland puzzles, and even chain-ported the guild to the ending of the Eternal Battleground puzzle. And not just for our guild, but for our server to help stock up on seige.
You need to find a good guild like that.
This video shows u the location of the stealth fountains, hope that helps you.
But definatly run it with a guild/group of people, makes it easier on you.
Good Luck
Another “Don’t kill me! I’m only here for my legendary” post? People doing WvW don’t care about that. And if they are there for the badges, and you are there on your own, consider yourself as a jumping shinny loot bag.
That said, I usually don’t attack people when they are alone and don’t belong to some important WvW guild.
One tip: At least in my server, there are certain moments when the most important guilds camp the EB puzzle with siege and provide mesmer portals. They ask people to run the puzzle as many times as possible on every alt, and then drop the siege to the commanders.
So I’d recommend you to be aware of these “events”. It’s by far the easiet way to get a looooot of badges in just 15 minutes AND being helpfull for your server. Everyone happy.
That video looks familiar :P lol
I do this puzzle a lot alone, and I love doing it
I esp love when people are camping it, I love to be able to beat 5people+.
Ok so, if you do wvw a lot you are probably familiar with the JP’s. So here I am, my first time in a JP and I’m in the eternal battlegrounds. After 4 hours or so of torture and extreme difficulty the chest is only a stones throw away. Throughout this puzzle Ive seen a few enemies but we’ve just ignored each other…Right near the chest I get ganked by 8 people. I am beyond kitten but I am determined to not give up. In my attempt of escape from the mob of anonymous kittens I’m able to drop down right near the griffon part of the puzzle. Eventually someone stumbles by after 15 minutes of praying and waiting and has the courtesy to revive me. Me and him go up and are near the chest…Guess who is waiting there 15 minutes later. The same exact people and once again they just kill me like nothing…..Why? What do they gain from this other than the feeling that they are torturing some random person whom has done nothing wrong to them? Seriously though, this freaking sucks….anyways I was kitten and left to get a glass of water and cool down and when I got back I was DC’d… BYE-BYE afternoon, too bad I have nothing to show from it!
Do the Jumping puzzle first thing in the morning on a weekday before work. You probably won’t see anyone and can get it done in under 10 minutes.
I camp the jp A LOT. I do it because is pretty much the only place for 1v1 combat and is pretty varied due to the terrain, traps etc. Basically the most fun to be had in WvW. Also I’ve done the JP at least one hundred times, i can pretty much do it with my eyes closed, while being heavily camped by the enemy.
Here’s a bit of advice:
1. Use the mystic fountains! I can’t stress this enough, there are 3 fountains that make you invisible throughout the JP. The invisibility lasts 5 minutes. If you had used the one at the top of the arena, you could have gotten the chest in the first run.
2. Use the mad king back piece (the one that is on fire) to get through the dark area without using torches
3. If you have a profession that uses torches offhand use that instead of the pick up torches at the entrance. Is the same thing, except you get to keep your skills.
4. USE A THIEF! I know is not fair to other proffesions, but even a low level thief can get trough despite heavy camping. Trait for 50% more speed in stealth is a must! If you can’t use a thief, use a mesmer any other class cannot get trough the arena if it’s camped.
5. Learn the shortcuts: the first teleport up near the corner you must jump around, the speed jump at the middle platform after the well, the speed jump on the beam at the end of the dark room, the teleport up in the arena. I know it sounds vague, but look up a video guide, can’t really explain here.
Here is an example of my run up to the top, while being camped by 30+ enemies. I use a thief with shadow refuge, hide in shadows, blinding powder, shadowstep. Dagger offhand for Cloak and dagger.
First thing i do, if i see people camping right at the start is use shadow refuge. Run stealthed towards the first mystic fountain, in the right side. I pretty much use all my abilities, but i’m able to maintain stealth all the way up to that beam that goes up from the water. After that climb to the mystic fountain, nobody camps there, and walk invisible to the next fountain. Then use the second fountain’s invisibility to get to the dark zone, right until the speed jump on the beam. Leave invisibility (to get speed buffs), make the jump and go to the arena, but don’t jump in yet. Here is the most tricky and hard part, and most likely to be camped. Use shadow refuge to gain 10 secs of invisibility. While stealthed, go to the left, and teleport(blink) up the stone above the leftmost holding prison (search for a video of how to do this). As soon as those 10 sec stealth wears out, use hide in shadows. During all this time jump the stones as quickly as possible. After hide in shadows wears out, use blinding powder to gain a little more stealth. If you don’t fall, you should be out of the arena by now. The best thing to do here is to start hitting the enemies/siege at the top with cloak and dagger, and run behind the arena (to get cooldown for shadow refuge again). If you’re feeling lucky you can go straight to the last mystic fountain, while using cloak and dagger on enemies. If you reach the mystic fountain, you’re pretty much set. Just climb up to the chest and /dance. Optionally go back down and start ganking the people climbing up, try to push the enemy mesmer down (so he doesn’t portal more people up) and generally be a nuisance/troll.
I have 100% success with this method, unless i get unlucky to be hit in invisibility or miss a jump. And please stop with QQ-ing over this, is a PVP zone, it’s normal to camp people here.
