I personally wish combat was like....
Lol? Are you serious? This games combat system is already flawless. I don’t see why you want to change it lol… If YOU do not like it, then why are you playing this game?
Don’t start topics thinking that EVERYONE feels this way. There are ALOT of people that enjoy the current combat system. I do think that the amount of skills they give us is a little bit limiting. For instance in GW1 I remember that one class had over 100 skills to choose from, but was only limited to 8 skills at a time. This gave the player alot of creative options, which in my oppinion lacks in GW2.
Well I never once stated “this is how everyone feels” or tried to push my opinion on anyone. I do enjoy guild wars. I have been playing as much as I can since release, however that does not mean there is not room for improvement or change.
I was just simply saying, I like where guild wars 2 combat is going.. or rather could go. Making it an action style mmo, with dodge/evade mechanics is great. For me though, I would love a faster style, with unlimited dodge potential.
It should be more like soul caliber, I want to be able to parry, I want high mid and low attacks, power attacks, combos, and instead of planting a flag in someone I want fatalities.
But I doubt that would happen so I’m content with the current fighting system.

You have 1 dodge and most of the players don’t know how use it. Good luck with the rest
I wish all classes had initiative like thief instead of cooldowns …but thats just my personal taste and may differ from others …i do really love the game
Screw those other people I’ll keep a game pad next to my keyboard for when combat happens! I’ll be the only one kickingkitten while everyone else is moving like they are trying to play QWOP

That would be way better than just different cooldowns. This way you have to make choices that will impact your combat more than what we have now for other classes.
If you use too much of an ability, you will end up without resources to use that other one that could save your life now.
Personally I hate cooldowns. I loved Warhammer system with a fast regen resource bar called energy. The only problem with that was healers. But we don’t have those here, so it would be great.
Anyways, as cool as it may be, this idea won’t ever be implemented. The game is already done and, even with minor problems I do enjoy it quite a lot =)

Lol, I use a gamepad as well. It make moving and attacking so much more comfortable. Although for PvP it kinda stinks, its so much more fun in PvE.
I wish it had a parry mechanic (exactly like dodge -1 sec immunity- cant parry siege viecles ) for some professions like warriors+thiefs+ guardians .
Lowering their burst damage + healing , but giving them more survibility in meele range :P
MMOs have mass appeal. Fighting systems from games like Soul Caliber are a niche market and tradionally those two player bases are not heavily mixed.
Also MMOs are dealing with alot more math. We already have issues with lag in WvW cause the server can’t keep up. Adding more dodges, more combos, high/med/low (more complexity) would negatively impact things.

There are several weapon sets in this game that have active block and active parry mechanics.
I’d like to start by saying that the game play as is keeps me satisfied.. but as the OP said, there’s always room for improvement, nothing is perfect (even if it’s the best game there is).
Fatalities instead of “banner planting” probably won’t happen as the game is censored quite a bit (kitties and kittens galore).. not a bad thing, they try to make it amusing with the different consumables that alter the visuals (running rabbits and such). The infinite dodging is also something I don’t think will happen but there may be a possibility of increasing it’s regen or making it so you can do 4 dodges in a row instead of only 2. At the moment, most classes do have ways to increase regen of the dodge pool.
That’s what I have to say about what others have posted.. but me personally, I think it’d be cool just to have more utility skills and traits to choose from (not a new tier or whole new tree, just more traits per tier). I have a feeling that in the expansions that this might become a reality.
TERA has the best combat of any MMO I’ve seen. WoW is good at what it does.
Wut?

Whoa Whoa now, I wouldn’t call this games combat “flawless.” It’s very very good, but by no means “flawless.” And I wish people would stop telling folks to “stop playing this game” whenever they have to audacity to post their opinion on something. It’s not like the OP said “I don’t think dodge-rolling should exist, Arenanet CHANGE IT NOW or I’m leaving….”
Legion of Anvil Rock [XXIV] – Anvil Rock
I think the combat would be perfect if they incorporated that action mod posted on Reddit (it is against the rules to use mods, don’t do it!). The tools are already in the game.
I have to laugh at the OP. Darksiders’ combat was a perfect example of a console game, full of combos, but no real depth. It got boring horribly fast.
Kingdoms of Amalur had a somewhat good combat system, but that was the only good thing about the game… and i still prefer GW2’s to it.
This is the video btw.
That video looks awesome. The bast part about it – no right click enabled haha!
Darksiders 1 had the worst, most atrocious combat system ever devised. It consisted of the left mouse button and… the left mouse button! How innovative!
Darksiders 2 had decent combat, but the combos would constantly lock you into an animating, removing your ability to dodge while Death takes his time filling out tea drinking forms in the middle of his strike. End result – kitten.
Really? So you want an MMO to play like an action game? Cool story bro.
That mod looks awesome.

I’m personally loving the balance struck with the game’s current combat system.
Also, check out Hardcore Adventure Box: World 1, World 2, Lost Sessions
Main Character: Dathius Eventide | Say “hi” to the Tribulation Clouds for me. :)
Humposaurus sorry my qouting is on the blink again.
You say the system is flawless then go on to say that you think it lacks customisation by lack of skills, strange.
I agree with your second thought.
If there is a combat system i like more than gw2’s, it would be the system monster hunter use.
But that system wont work too well in an open world mmo
Well, I just wish the combat had a little more depth.
Well when you consider that Guild Wars 2 was toted to be a skill based, no auto-attack action game where instead of relying on mitigation, you were supposed to dodge, is it that crazy to think that it should play like an action game instead of Age of Conan with a dodge key?
I like the combat system how it is, only thing I would like is more skill options in weapon slots so a weapon is not limited to its base skills but they can be changed out depending on the type of weapon.
Though the game does not need it at this moment it would be a nice addition to stir up the meta game and add some new flavor as content continues to grow.
Orbys, you should try to play TERA. Its got the type of combat you are looking for.
Well I would try Tera but I heard that game was a major flop so. Also for the guy criticizing the darksiders combat, I guess I did not share your frustrations at all because I used a controller, just like I use a controller for GW2.
