GW2 is my main game but every now and then I try other MMOs out of curiosity. Well, the one I decided to try is… down… for… maintenance. WHAT? I didn’t even remember this thing existed, lol. It’s 2017, every MMO should patch like GW2, duh. I really appreciate our lack of downtimes, I’m glad I don’t have to waste my free time on staring at a maintenance screen.

Feel free to post something you love about GW2.

The races and cultures. I’m trying to think of another modern MMO who goes so far outside the box with their race variety and there aren’t as many as you’d think. But not only are they varied in appearance and animation, but their cultures are obviously expressed (rather than needing to read in-game text to understand them).

GW2 should make more of their races playable!

Since I work a “normal” schedule, I tend not to be affected by other MMOs downtimes (especially because I don’t play them right now! :P). So, while we don’t get downtimes in the traditional sense, it’s pretty irritating to see New build available right in the middle of my game time. It’s a small price to pay for having a responsive team behind the scenes.

Also, for other “nice” things, I’d been thinking lately of how GW2 has so much voiceover work done in comparison to other MMOs. WoW has a few spots, but mostly it’s just response one-liners or hidden in dungeons/raids. FF14 is some very silent clicking past text. In GW2, every zone has spots that are fully voiced, and the game feels more alive because of it.
(Or annoying, if you’re by the bank listening to “investigators” for the 1000th time.)

Many alts; handle it!

We barely get maintenance downtimes (RIP Oceanic users). But we sure do got the DDoS thing for us!

Fortunately, I was asleep when that happened so I had no issues at all. x) Plus these attacks don’t happen often.

I love this too.

After about 10 years of GW1 and 2 being my only MMOs it caught me by surprise the first time I tried to log into another game and was told it was down for maintenance. Sure it’s not a big deal when it does happen (especially since I’m usually at work) but I have to admit I’ve often wondered why more games don’t use the same/similar tech to GW2 to allow them to keep the game running while they update.

The big advantage, I think, isn’t so much that you don’t lose time to regular maintenance but that quick fixes can actually be done quickly. In my other game because almost any update requires taking the servers offline bugs have to be really major to justify a quick fix. Most have to wait until either there’s enough ‘minor’ fixes to justify an update or for the next scheduled maintenance which can be a week away.

It’s because ANet has a boss tech team and also because their server tech is a company secret.

I especially love that if I get busy IRL I don’t fall behind with gear. I never feel “less” than anyone else. I also love all the things we have to do in the game. It’s not only an endless fight for gear.

So true! I hate it in other MMOs when “Oh you just came back after the expansion? The max level was increased so the gear you worked on for months is crap now, time to grind new endgame stuff for your characters!” It’s horrible!

In GW2, I’ve been wearing the same Ascended gear for years and I will never have to change it (unless I want future stat combos but that’s unlikely because as a non-meta player, I still use “vanilla” stats on my characters). I love the fact I can do new content in peace because my gear is still useful!

It’s really hard to play other RPGs at the moment without feeling a lack of control over the character. The skill system and metagame balance aren’t perfect in GW2, but the basics of combat are pretty close.

Plenty of things:

- Combat system, I’m so used to it that I would have a hard time fighting in other MMOs
- Unique races and cultures (okay, races like elves are cool, but they are just so cliché)
- Patching/maintenance system, I appreciate it like you
- Beautiful music, really some of the best in-game soundtracks I’ve ever heard
- Plenty of voiced talks, it really makes the game feel so alive
- Diverse world, with interesting things to discover, like cool dialogues, jumping puzzles, hidden chests, etc., also it’s very huge and growing, with a lot of places waiting to be discovered (and some rediscovered)
- No stupid grind to get the gear with the best stats
- PvP and WvW, both superior to any MMO PvP systems I’ve ever tried
- Living World, because of it the game isn’t stuck in time
- and much more…

I am lazy to write it over and over. So sorry for my English.
