Q:

I just for a email from noreply@guildwars2.com saying this

A log-in attempt from the following location is currently awaiting your authorization.

Address: 183.2.189.121
City: Guangzhou
Region: 30
Country: CN

This location is approximated based on information provided by your Internet Service Provider. If in doubt, deny the request and try again.

If you are certain this log-in attempt was not made by you, then someone else knows your log-in credentials and you should change your password immediately via Account Management.

For security purposes, we alert you each time your account is accessed from an unrecognized location. To authenticate this log-in attempt, please click the link below:

Yeah, I would change your password. That is a real email from ArenaNet, but what happens is when someone tries to log into your account via a different IP they send you and email which you must confirm to allow that IP to access the game.

PS: Don’t click that link as it will allow them to access your account!

What that email means, is that someone in China:

  • knows your GW2 account name
  • knows your GW2 account password
  • tried to log into your GW2 account to steal it.

That request for authorization by email from ArenaNet is the only reason your account isn’t already stolen – and depending on what your email login is, it may actually have given them enough information to log into your email account to authorize their theft using the links in that email (if your email password was the same as your GW2 password).

Change your GW2 password to something you’ve never used anywhere before immediately. If you used the same password on your email account itself, also change your email password immediately. Don’t make these the same password when you change them!

Consider changing your password on EVERY site where you have previously used THAT username with THAT password, as every single one of them are now compromised.

Don’t click the link AT ALL. Clicking the link gives the location in question permission to access your account.

Hi everyone.

JayDubbz: I have edited your post. You should be more careful and never make public this kind of links for they help the hackers in their work.

As already stated in this thread, do not click the link by any means and change your password. If you receive in the future another message like this one, just ignore it.

Now I will proceed to lock the thread.
