You heard me!!! There is rarely something more annoying than finding someone else obtaining armor/items/achievements a year later when it becomes easier to get after I spent a huge amount of time trying to acquire/achieve something. I LOVE the fact that when new content comes out, previous zones are abandoned (making it almost impossible to get the armor/achievements in some cases). You snooze, you lose! Or, if you didn’t own the game prior to the content being released, maybe you should have obtained it earlier. Tough luck! Same goes for armor. I’m currently farming to try to get the full lumi set of carapace armor and guess what? I may not get the full set (I’m married, work full time, play other games, etc). If new LS comes out and the zone is emptied (making it impossible to farm badges) guess whose fault that is? Mine! Not anets. It is MY fault and I have to deal with it!

I applaud you anet for making your game the way it is (in this respect). I love getting to walk around with titles/armor that other people can’t really obtain any more. That’s what gw2 should be like and I’m glad its currently that way now.

Content in this game will always seem
to be faceroll at the high levels, because it
needs to be accessible to the casuals and bads.

The idea of Living Story is amazing on paper. A world evolving and a story-line that constantly goes forward changing stuff around you. A living world making GW2 more than a simple MMO.

Apparently the implementation of such a huge plan isn’t too successful not because Anet is bad but simply because they haven’t found the proper way to do it.

When companies try to do stuff that haven’t been tried before (or in this cases, tried and failed like in AC), it usually takes alot of experimentation and reworks. Such a strategy is usually not viable in MMOs since the playerbase can’t just sit down and await the company to try out different systems while the proper content may take years to be finalized.

This has nothing to do with your thread acctually but I had the urge to mention why Living World isn’t so successful or loved by players.

How? I’ve missed out on plenty of content. But its my fault, not anyone else.

I think this arrogance says it all. Your piece as a whole screams self-centered egocentric values.

EDIT for shower thoughts: I don’t believe the idea of exclusivity has no valid argument, but they will look nothing like the ones you provided up top.

Dave.2536 – the OP is being sarcastic. Take a moment to read and comprehend the post before replying.

To the OP – this was an issue with LS1 and was addressed in LS2. How affective the change was is anyone’s guess. Comparee to basically every other functioning MMO at this point GW2 is far behind in content production so I don’t think you’re missing out on very much.

If it was, then it wasn’t very well done. Your assumption seems as good as mine here, though perhaps our cynicism levels are different.

There are a considerable number here who legitimately share some of the ideas in the OP. There are also extremely valid arguments for having some content be exclusive, either in a hard sense (things are gone for good afterwards) or soft (things are much harder to obtain afterwards)

Read any post by Malediktus or however you spell his name if you want people in favor of exclusivity. On the other hand, I don’t believe I made an outlandish claim at all. It’s like me saying “some people in this forum act are extremely irrational” or “some people in this forum have an overreaching sense of entitlement”.

There is a short term argument in favor of exclusivity, where a game needs to quickly “refresh” its playerbase, and entices them to “come now” with promises of limited time prestige.

At best, though, I would see this as an argument supporting “soft exclusivity” (things become harder, but not impossible, to get later)

While I would prefer more limited and exclusive items, I don’t believe ArenaNet embraces it as much as some of us would wish. Especially if it 1) has profit potential AND/OR 2) can be recycled so they don’t have to focus on new content every year.

Also your comparison with not having the game is somewhat flawed. If I started the game at Headstart and the game goes on sale each year — I can’t be mad at that. Yeah, they didn’t pay as much as I did…. but I’ve also had access to it longer than they have. Its a trade off. You could just as easily translate that over to “exclusive” skins that get rereleased down the road.

Is it always fair?
No. But when is life ever fair.
