:/ I think I'm done
At least half of your points are valid since launch. I wonder how you could bear to stick with GW2 so long?
And these are just stuff from the top of my head. So many issues and bugs that since launch are still present. I guess that I’ve stayed this long simply because there isn’t anything better out there atm. Don’t get me wrong gw2 is a great game but I feel that it just keeps going on the wrong direction.
Combo fields are lacking and some do the same things leaping a smoke field gives stealth so does blasting it.
Smoke field + blast = up to 5 players stealthed
Smoke field + leap = you are stealthed
Same with every other field
•Elimination of passive trait/rune/sigil activation
Stuff that just randomly activates promotes unskillful play
I like to play with them cause I’m an unskillful player.
And you know what ? I don’t play to be skilled, my real life already care about this, but to have fun without complications.
•Skills need to be aimed or ground targeted
This forces the player to be focused when fighting
I’m so happy you’re leaving.
If you activate the action camera, it forces skills to be aimed or grounds targeted.
Is it just me or is this a huge learn to play issue lol is this like your first game or something?
If you think GW2 animation is clunky you should see the animation of other mmo(outside of few new ones), gw2 animation is literally god tier.
skills need to be aimed or ground targeted
This forces the player to be focused when fighting….……………………………………… wow, just wow . You just like blew my mind. Thank god you are leaving.
Also please send all your gold and t6/7 mats to the id located at left ty.
Looking at that list, it seems like you’re just getting started to me.

Edit: my error, had intended this was posted under another topic:
This game used to be so fun..
I think your title named it well – the fun factor is missing. Or rather too much of it has been replaced with annoyance after annoyance; limitation after limitation, a new currency every 30 feet, new ways of slowing down progress or a new death wish just trying to harvest materials.
It used to be that the cursed shore areas where places where you couldn’t linger long enough in most areas to enjoy the artistry and creativity of the GW2 world. Now it’s just trying to stay alive while passing through most areas of HoT. And I see others doing the same, like riding a bike in rush hour traffic, just trying to get from one spot to another while spending the least amount of time in-between, with far too many ways of being slowed down, limited, hampered or outright killed. On leaving these areas or dying, I keep expecting to see a sign: Leaving HoT; Don’t come back. Gliding should be a good exploration device, but it’s more often an escape mechanism designed after the frying pan/fire scenario.
There’s a big difference between challenges and annoyances; between helping the player enjoy the game with interface design improvements and simplifying processes,
instead of filling it up with fillers, junk, time limitations and insane respawns and hazards.
There is still a lot to enjoy and I do, but it’s getting harder to find. At least I can stand at a crafting station without being interrupted continually or hoping someone will res me… And in part, having spent money on it, I’m trying to get my money’s worth but still switching to other games when the frustration builds up.
(edited by Laughing Crow.7581)
Some points I agree with, some I cannot, namely:
•Elimination of conditions on auto attack
This game has way too many conditions flying around. Never in my gaming life have I seen so many conditions being applied to me over and over and over
•Condition rework
Conditions should be just that, a condition… not something that melts your hp bar but rather a form of controlling your opponent
Conditions do exactly what they are supposed to do – cripple the opponent, often to the point of death. Think of them as spreading plague. When you’re ill you also can hardly do anything and the same applies here – your CDs are slower, you move slower, you bleed, burn, are confused, your healing and damage output is crippled – all how it should be. Conditions ignore armour and reach you where physical reach is impossible. It’s called Damage Over Time (DOT).
Counter measure: condi cleansing setup.
Conclusion: Nothing wrong here. Sounds more like your inability to cope with a game mechanic. I am actually thinking they could use a boost, because even with my almost 2k condi damage opponents go down slower than expected.
•Skills need to be aimed or ground targeted
This forces the player to be focused when fighting
You have got to be joking.
So you want the computer do everything for you so you don’t have to “focus” on anything, just mindlessly press buttons.
In case you haven’t noticed, the game is already limiting players beyond reason. Whoever designed this mechanic hoped for more strategy to be employed, but failed.
As someone who has played quite a few MMOs out there it seems to me as if this game was designed for those incapable of using but a fraction of what they know, because every other MMO I have played out there does not limit me, allowing me to use my character to its full potential, i.e. if I have learned 40 abilities I can use all of them, at any given point, which is what GW2 never allowed and it is absurd and idiotic and the cause of major frustrations, e.g. when you find yourself in a situation where you could use a different ability than you have slotted and cannot equip it because you are not given the choice to use whatever you have learned in the past (which is stupid, because we all have a choice, only ANet denies that fact),
THAT is crippling, NOT conditions. It’s limiting and frustrating not being able to use everything you have learned.
ANet’s argument could be, that the game would be imbalanced… blah blah blah
- there are ways to make it balanced. Those, who don’t want to, find reasons, those who do, find ways.
Many MMO players refer to GW2 as casual, hand-holding c**p for many good reasons.

•Traits rework
Trait lines should be eliminated and traits need to be individualized for better balance and create more build diversities
•Animation rework
Most of gw2 animations are awkward, recycled, outdated feel lackluster
•Dual wielding rework
Dual wielding is almost non existent in gw2. Sure I can use 2 weapons but that doesn’t mean im dual wielding. Closest profession that comes to dual wielding is thief
•Rune/Sigil rework
RNG procs and threshold procs need to go. Also runes and sigil need to have more flavor and unique animations sigil of geomancy and hydromancy come to mind
•Build Templates
Long overdue…
•Skills need to be aimed or ground targeted
This forces the player to be focused when fighting
•Elimination of instant cast skills on target
I just hate when out of nowhere I instant get deleted without having a slight chance of reacting
•Skills need to be telegraphed
If skills are animated properly players can know how to react to certain skill
•Skills need to have counter play
No skill should be absolute and should have some way of counter play
•Promote active gameplay
passive gameplay is just brain dead and unskillfull
•Combo field rework
Combo fields are lacking and some do the same things leaping a smoke field gives stealth so does blasting it.
•AI rework
There is simply too much stuff going on on my screen clones, phantasms, minions, spirits, spirit weapons, turrets, gyros, pets… ps you should be able to hide your pet permanently with ranger
•Melee and range combat rework
As it stands range combat is simply more rewarding and less dangerous than melee specially in the new maps
•Meaningful rewards
Ioot in gw2 is certainly the worst loot I’ve ever seen in any mmo killing stuff simply doesn’t feel rewarding. I remember back in some other mmo killing the same mob over and over just to get a certain armor upgrade that only that creature dropped and when that armor upgrade dropped I felt that sense of accomplishment. Loot in gw2 is simply all over the place and has no real meaning its just bag inside bags inside bags and trash inside more bags.
Let’s make a new game from scratch while you are at it……
Reading between the lines:
I am a very skilled player. But other players seem to do better. That is not because they are more skilled, they are really noobs. It is because the game demands not the real deal skillset (aka mine), but skills those noobs have. Please change the game so I am king with my personal skillset. I am unable to acquire any other.

Hmm… One of the main aspects of the whole Guild Wars series that I like is that you only have a few skills available. As I am someone who have played not a few but many MMO I love this machanic best of all.
And to OP, well I don’t agree with you at all accept for Build template. Some things needs to be checked at but not reworked.

@OP, most of your points are either you not seeing the bigger picture, or just a personal preference.

Seems just the same as you jumping into nearly every thread to white-knight for Anet.

I expressed my opinion ans said what I think ia right, whether you agree with me or not does not change the fact I’m still discussing the topic. Yet the guy I just called out posted something that is compeletly unrelated to OP.
Also if you call me a white knight for not jumping on train with forum to burn down castle Arenanet and defend what I like about the game then go ahead call me a white knight all you want.
I have to disagree with most of these things. Maybe make a poll somewhere to see if some of these things really need to change.
I couldn’t care less about the loot and well, the combo thing was kind of wrong and the “ground targetting” isn’t really my type as well as I already have to do a lot in a fight, clicking an enemy each time and each time after they’ve stealthed would cost a lot of time. “Auto attacking after target changed” could be removed though and looked into some skills that target you no matter what.
Other than that I agree with the OP although I think some things can’t be solved like “all runes being viable” as that depends on the current meta; I don’t think it will be possible to make all runes and sigils really viable but they certainly could be improved and there’s just too many of them.
Reading between the lines:
I am a very skilled player. But other players seem to do better. That is not because they are more skilled, they are really noobs. Nailed it. I’m so glad we have an on board translator. GL out there OP. Pro tip: games with more than 2 buttons may suffer from the same problems you had with gw2. Seriously consider a professional gaming career in spider solitaire easy mode. I’d watch your stream.
So what i would personally change is almost non of that.
BUT:
1.
Decrease number of particle effects- add a slider or a window so that a player can
really turn them off cause seriously during raids we want to see bosses/monsters skills , and compared with level of particle effects in beta i think we are just half way between beta and normal state.
2.
Combo skills – this is adressing matter for begining players or those who sometimes forget things…like me. In windowed description of skills where we got range, radius and so on… the combo ability should be in some different color than gray-white- just to see it instantly.
3.
I appreciate that you wanted us to feel the joy of collecting hero points in HoT and all of them work well EXCEPT ONE. Adding a one-hit-kill or almost one-hit-kill Avatar Champion of Balthazar next to one is a little too much…
4. Redesign the nomenclature of mobs. By that i mean normal-veteran-elite-champ-legendary.
In HoT some normal mobs are more difficult to kill than in Tyria.
Some veterans are more difficult than elites in Tyria .
I talk mainly about their hp and in some cases new tactics needed. So maybe we need rank between normal and vet and between vet and elite.
Oh.. and in some cases mobs lack description of what they actually do for example: I know that big beetles can launch me or knock me down. I never thought that those little ones (and they dont have that in description ) can hurl my norn character like a rag as well.
But i think thats all with major issue being particle effects. Every other issue mentioned here i find as “good enough and not needed to be changed”

I believe I worded that wrong. When I say that you need to be focused, I meant that you need to concentrate on what you are doing. Most of our skills already require to be aimed if using action camera. A good example of making a skill more skill based is elementalists dragon’s tooth it went from on target to ground target.

Op forgot /s at the end
Ok first of all I completely disagree with a ton of your points, but your last two ones you hit the nail on the head.
•Meaningful rewards

Jesus christ it’s honestly relieving to see somebody else on the same page as me when it comes to rewards. I mean, I’ve seen people that claim rewards for things on here to be bad but nobody takes it a step further and says what you just did, which is exactly how I’ve felt for so long:
This game has literally the worst rewards I’ve ever seen on a game.
Like, I honestly can’t name a single time in the history of gaming that I’ve felt as unrewarded overall as when I play this game. I’ve been playing games since getting my SNES sometime in the early 90’s and throughout the 20 or so games on that, the 40 or so games on PS1, the 20 or so games on PS2, and all the PC games and MMOs I’ve been playing since after 2000-2001 and onwards made me feel more excited and rewarding than this one. This includes the really terrible WoW clones that people trash all the time too.
The reason why I stuck around on here for so long? Simple, really. I enjoy the fluid combat and how unique it feels, but there’s only so far that can take me before it’s just time to log out.

“•Skills need to be aimed or ground targeted
This forces the player to be focused when fighting”
The problem with forced manual aiming is the forced part. Other huge cans of worms include those of us who bought the game did so with the understanding it has certain mechanics, take away those mechanics then it stops being the product I paid for. It would also make aiming far more awkward because if I’m using my mouse to turn then its camera functions are already being taken up and it’s awkward enough at times using ground targetted attacks. Normally I’d go on autorun to free up my mouse but it’s only for a few attacks for the times I’m not standing still.
“If skills are animated properly players can know how to react to certain skill
•Skills need to have counter play”
Any skill worth countering already has a telegraph. That’s why there are “fake cast” strategies so enemy interrupts go on CD.
And…passives and runes…seriously? Other players have access to those same mechanics we do so it levels out. It isn’t “skill less” play and passives aren’t a crutch or substitute for skill but rather augment it.
Things I like without reposting the whole thing.
Condition rework would be good. Autos should not carpet bomb conditions. The entire condition system needs an overhaul.
A rune and sigil improvement that makes most of them more attractive and of benefit to use would be good, but I’m sure they are coming out with ascended stuff so let’s see how that goes. I don’t agree with any passive changes, that’s just silly.
Reworking a lot of traits and having a more open system would be good.
Build templates and savers would be good.
I agree with you about the reward system in general. It’s been a topic for a long time, but the devs a slowly making a better shift in certain areas.
I think that’s about it.

ummmmmm i feel like over 1/2 of these are a learn to play issue.
If you watched the ESL PRO league matches alot of teams know how to play against condi and yes ground targeting does make people think about what there doing which is actually your arguing for which is skilled play.
Also most of the attacks are avoidable and have a counter. Its like a boxing match, your gonna take shots but its about avoiding the knock out shot and hay makers. Its about timing your heals and watching your opponent when he switches weapons and quickly realizing what type of character he is.
The game has become very frustrating and not fun lately there are simply to many things that I want to get changed that I would be better off playing a new game.

Tell me about it xP First thing I thought after seeing the list. I would like to say that after the first point I had objections. Do you know how long it would take to make everything viable? And do you know how long it would take to balance every single skill/ability, not to mention the fact that they have to be balanced between game types as well? Just that point is HUGE. You might as well be making a new game of with the list of changes you are putting forward xP
thx guys for letting me know that OP is drunk so I dont need to read his post
That is a giant to do list.
Half of that list would take months to do.
The OP stated an opinion.
I like the dodge ability and how combat feels here.
I also like the forum posters. Keep the chuckles coming guys and girls.
As someone who has played quite a few MMOs out there it seems to me as if this game was designed for those incapable of using but a fraction of what they know, because every other MMO I have played out there does not limit me, allowing me to use my character to its full potential, i.e. if I have learned 40 abilities I can use all of them, at any given point, which is what GW2 never allowed and it is absurd and idiotic and the cause of major frustrations, e.g. when you find yourself in a situation where you could use a different ability than you have slotted and cannot equip it because you are not given the choice to use whatever you have learned in the past (which is stupid, because we all have a choice, only ANet denies that fact),
There is far more skill involved in learning how to overcome a broad variety of obstacles using a very limited number of available tools than there is in having a tool for every situation available at all times.
The lack of the foresight to be able to design and build around your needs, requiring the crutch of having every possible tool available at all times, is another indication of lack of capacity on the part of the player.

You’re clearly mistaking the obvious here. It’s not about one’s inability to use a limited set of tools, it’s about the limitation itself that is absurd and idiotic.
With the latest patch the game became far too easy for certain classes and very difficult for those left behind and I needn’t name examples.
Surely anyone would agree, that it’s only reasonable to use whatever at your disposal to your advantage. It’s not only more fun, but mainly reasonable. Only a fool would not utilize their own potential.
If you like being limited so be it.
I’d go for more rewards myself. Something to bring the time vs. reward more in line.
