Finally after over 2 years and more than 5k hours of game play, I think I have to call it quits for GW2. I have run a very successful guild for over a year, attained Dungeon Master, lvl 50 fractals, tiger rank in pvp, rank 340 something in WvW, crafted 2 legendaries, and have lvl 80 of every single profession and more. More or less, I have done everything and beat everything in game, as far as I know.

I have unfortunately (or fortunately) come to the realization that for the past 3-4 months, I had been logging on and playing just for the sake of playing. My time just idling kept increasing trying to convince myself that I want to play still.

The lack of new content such as not a single new dungeon in a year, last one being aether path in TA, the same redundant world events and WvW game play is one of the major reasons for my leaving. The Living Story season 2 was nice but was very easy and very quick, and now have to wait months just to start the second half. In 2 years time, there have been virtually no new USEFUL skills added, no new professions, no new races, no new weapons.

I think I’m done trying to convince myself that I still need to play, that I still need to run my guild for the sake of running it, and trying to give Anet patience in being smarter about their game content and design. It’s been a fun run overall and made lot’s of friends. But, I think this is it for the time being for me. Take care all!

Isn’t the whole point of playing a game just for the sake of playing? Or am I missing something?

Just remember. You can always come back! I’d be sure to log just to not have to pay for content you might want to see at a later date. Other than that, no harm no foul!

Usually, people play a game for other reasons besides just playing it. Meaning playing a game for having fun, interacting with the community, for experiencing new things in game, etc. I ran out of those reasons was what I was trying to say.

Sounds like a classic case of burnout to me.

I take the same kind of break every time the Living Story goes on hiatus. Gone for a few weeks/months, then I’m back until it goes on hiatus again. One of these days, I likely won’t come back either.

This game is perfect for taking breaks, casual and no subscription. :-) Come back if and whenever you want.

Other games with elements of Guild Wars include Archeage and Rift. You can find some interesting build mechanics in both. While not a fluid as GW2 with regards to combat, they offer more satisfying talent/skill/class systems.

Nothing tops GW2 combat — it should be the benchmark adopted by other MMOs. However GW2 doesn’t have the build complexity and sophistication that existed in GW1. You can find that in Rift and Archeage.

The first MMO to get the two together will probably dominate.

Part of me thinks that someone in ANet was thinking “hey, wanna see something funny? Watch this…”

You’ve spent more hours playing a game over the last 2 years than the average full time job. I can’t believe anyone could play a game for that much time.

Yes I agree. I hear a lot of what friends say about Archeage. Same exact thing as you said, idk if I want to start a new game atm though. I think i’m still going through the grieving process of having this game ‘die’ on me lol…

2yrs = 730days
you played >5k hours
So that’s like 6+ hrs / day, including holidays and weekends (Christmas, New Year, Thanks Giving, Summer Vacation, etc)
I think you burned out yourself. You made the game your life, or your job.

Why do people have to post every time they are leaving……

And for 60 bucks you got your money’s worth at the amount of time you played.

I’ve been playing sense beta I think I have 300 hours……

i’ve played the same amount as this person since start up.. i really think there’s a disconnect with the way the game tries to engage the players.. it was innovative for when the game launched, but they didn’t fill in the holes with other time proven mmo methods.. if you have time, possibly take a look at the suggestion in my signature..

To (hopefully) let the dev’s know they are losing players. It’s hard to notice your ship is sinking when not a single crew member lets you know O.o

I’ve retired from gw2 already, I’m prolly number xxxxxxx but that’s 1 less person purchasing gems to support a failure. I do not care for gem store updates, I’ll purchase gems when there is lasting pve content and proper attention to pvp balance changes.

Yes you miss the point that a game should be fun and enjoyable.
I’m in the boat of the OP.
I have all legendarys, played all dungeons 1000’s of times, have all ascended armors
heck i even have the fractal weapons…etc

It’s just time to move on for some people.
This has nothing to do with a “i am leaving” thread.

At least for me there is nothing exciting anymore and since there nothing new coming within the next years i will come by later
