I think someone tried to scam me. What to do?
Do not trade via mail. This is not supported by Arenanet and there are no compensations or other reversions done by Support if such kind of trade is done.
Use the Black Lion Trading Post instead.
And yes, you nearly would have become a scam victim. If the dude really wants to sell the Precursor, he’d done so at the BLTP.
Use the Support feature on this site (scroll to the bottom of this page to see it). It should be self explanatory once you click on it. Screenshots will be awesome.
I doubt they’ll ever tell you the result of your report, but they should be able to look at that player’s history and if s/he’s a scammer, they can Do Things s/he will neither like nor understand. (To quote an old LARP saying).
I would just block the guy after reporting the whole thing, and then letting it go? As long as you didn’t send him anything, you’re good to continue on with your life.

The guy is already blocked now and of course I did not send him anything. I told him he would get more gold if he sent it using the TP; he provided no explanation about why he did not want. The only thing he got from me is one hour (meaning that if he’s a pro-scammer, he’ll have lost one hour too. But thanks, I’ll use the support in the links below.
You think that guy was trying to scam you? I’d say it was pretty obvious he was trying to scam you. Report him using the “support” link on the upper left of this page: On the page that pops up, hit “submit a request.”
Not sure if Anet will do anything about this since you weren’t actually scammed.
Well, I suppose they could investigate the account and maybe find the goldseller behind this (you know… follow the money )
Also, I’m saying “I think” because I don’t want to give a real statement in case I’m wrong. But I’m 99% sure he tried.

lvl 2 with 86 ach points holding a precursor is strongly indicative that there’s more than scamming going on. There’s likely a trail of accounts they’ve mailed between, and at some ends you might find some accounts with suspicious login and account recovery history.

Could have also been a chat coded precursor…. Might not actually exist.
